a few months ago and for many many years i had the opinion, that you could pre-purchase the games of R* blindly.

Take-Two has taken down many fan-made mods to give us crap remasters (my opinion), then they pulled down the PC version without opening automatic refunds. What a shame for a billion dollar company.

What a stupid article. Speculating about the release date of GTA 7 when GTA 6 hasn't even been confirmed to exist yet.

The whole point of my comment was that people should wait for GTA 6 with this thought in mind that GTA 6 is going to be the last GTA for many people because GTA 7 would take more than a decade.

Just remember to NEVER PREORDER any game, even when GTA6 will be announced. Trailers and gameplay trailers are carefully crafted. Final product is always different.

You damn right. I never pre order a game until I know the features, gameplay mechanics and graphics. I wouldn’t waste my time for something I won’t play it anyway.

That's generally correct but wasn't the case with Trilogy DE. They didn't hide or cover up anything. The promos were as rough as the final product.

The Switch version seems to be the worst one and it was obvious from the Switch screenshots released a few days before release. Things like the character models or SA's empty sky were also visible in the trailers and screens. The website also said it was developed by GSG, so the simplified and altered mechanics were only to be expected.

Other than frame rate or RGL issues, I think everyone got what they paid for.

Exactly. I just checked the Metacritic user reviews for GTA Trilogy DE and they are goddamn awful.

PC: 0.8 

PS4: 0.6

PS5: 1.1

Xbox: 0.3

Switch: 0.7

(The highest score is 10.0)

If its next gen only and rockstar actually gives this much attention into it I believe it could no problem look this good.

Quite frankly there's no defending it. If you look at it on the surface, or you haven't played those games in 10-20 years, I'm sure you'll like them or have fun. But you go digging any deeper, or if you're a hardcore fan who knows those games well... They're just poor.

They certainly aren't 'Definitive'.

Those UE5 graphics are so beautiful, I couldn't ask for more. I would be more than happy if Rockstar really make GTA 6 look this good.

One thing a lot of people still fail to understand about UE4/UE5 tech demo's is the fact that they push the limits for nice visuals of the 1 thing they are showing, much further then what's possible in most game settings.

That video shows different bespoke landscapes, most/all made with photogrammetry (3d scanned "unique" landscape features pretty much everywhere) making one big diverse connected landscape the size of GTA5 at this level of detail means install size goes trough the roof, the landscape alone would be 100gb+ and then it still needs buildings vehicles characters etc to actually make the game

 

And that's what's also missing here and in most UE4/UE5 feature videos, everything else, sure the landscape looks very nice, but it would need equally realistic (read: very detailed so large filesize & heavy on GPU) buildings, vehicles, characters, etc. In the end you'd have so much detail on screen that pretty much nobody can run the game at an acceptable framerate anymore, certainly not current or even next gen consoles.

UE4/UE5 can make some very impressive visuals, and their tech demo's and example projects are often pretty stunning, but you really need to understand that most games cant even dream of coming close to those visuals because of everything else that also needs time to render, the amount of work involved to get such detailed visuals across the board, the install size & earlier mentioned console bottlenecks. And before you go "but just make it PC only" thats not how game studio's make money, especially if its going to require some top-tier system to get 60fps. If you need a computer that costs 4k in parts they are simply not going to be selling enough copies of their game to make all that extra work worth the effort.

To be blunt about it, 95% of UE4/UE5 feature videos are highly unrealistic and people should stop using them in arguments about visuals in games. No offense or anything by the way, just trying to educate here.

Or when people were making excuses for the sh*tty character models ("the games were always cartoony"), lack of gameplay videos ("Rockstar never shows much") and in general the inconsistent look of the remaster ("just pre release screenshots, they will be fixed")

As far as Rockstar releasing new titles, I'm sure we will get a great GTA. Remember, Rockstar did not develop the trilogy remasters, GSG did. We did get RDR2 and that was phenomenal. Just because Dan left doesn't mean GTA VI will be bad, maybe Dan along with other writers already finished the story. Even if not, there are still some writers there that wrote RDR2, GTA IV and V (Michael Unsworth, Rupert Humphries) so I'm sure we'll be fine. As far as remasters go, they should not outsource their games to GSG again. I'm sure VI will surprise us just like RDR2 did.

When I shared that video here, I was thinking that people would be impressed by how great those graphics look and they would expect something like that from GTA 6. And after watching the trailer of Forza Horizon 5 my own expectations from GTA 6 got higher than ever. Whenever I watch videos like that, I always think that GTA 6 would look just like that or even better. But I didn't know those technical things which you just told me, and I am grateful to you for taking out your time for writing such a long reply to educate us.
