You can't possibly set a solid release date from early unfinished work, you work from deadline to deadline, milestone to milestone, change to change (if still in an alpha state where core features are still being reconsidered) until you reach a point you can lock down most things and be more confident with a final date.  That's not even a leak!

I saw various articles over the weekend claiming from some type of "insider source" that GTA VI is in worse development cycle\state than GTA IV was and apparently the GTA VI had its project reset in 2019 due to Dan Houser leaving the company. Later on, I think the said "insider source" in question admitted to lying about some stuff, either way, we can't confirm anything anyway. However, if what's been said is true, that would explain why we haven't heard anything about GTA VI yet. Just imagine a GTA VI coming out and being in a worse state than GTA IV was when it released

 

What surprised me was that so many gaming outlets have picked it up just like with the Project America "leak" and it spread like a wildfire.

Well, that's how it works ideally. Sadly, it's not always the case. Obsidian have been victim of that, most notably. I'm not disagreeing with your overall point, as I agree. No way GTA VI has a set release date. It likely has a rough projected window, but the pandemic has probably changed that to a monthly "let's see where we're at" kind of deal (I can't remember the game, but that was the case for some studios, it was revealed). I'm just saying there are some publishers out there that do give solid deadlines. And sometimes reluctantly grand extensions/delays. I really with Bethesda gave Obsidian more than 18 months to work on Fallout: New Vegas.

If GTA 6 is now going to be set in Chicago or Detroit like location then what cars, direction, graphics, gameplay and much much more will be like...?

I want a game that has a balancing tone between IV and V and if this game comes out in 2025 and is a masterpiece, then maybe I could jump early in GTA 6.

And before you think they can't change locations, they got many dollars baby.

I am hoping for late 2023 announcement after 17 Sept 2023.

Why that specific date ? If we are gonna get a game that is not set in Vice City, I would prefer something that is located outside US, maybe London or Tokyo ? I mean, a new paint of scenery for the next GTA wouldn't hurt really as we mostly get the same Vice City, San Andreas and so on recycled over and over but on a different generation hardware. Maybe it's the time for something new, who knows what R* will come up with.

Best case scenario atm(realistically):

Late 2022 announcement.

Late 2024 release.

In this scenario Rockstar follows their usual marketing strategy. They announce the game, forget about it for one year and then release another trailer with the announcement date etc.. marketing kicks in until release.

This old scholl Rockstar marketing scheme is kinda.... 2011 so I don't expect them to use the full 2 years. BUT... people ask for Vi all the time so they could follow that method again just to acknowledge that Vi is in development.

Btw don't forget the original Rdr 2 marketing. 1 year announcement to release.

 

Most probable case scenario (realistically)

Late 2023 announcement.

Late 2024/early 2025 release.

This follows mine and other peoples theory that Rockstar will utilize only one year in terms of marketing the game. 

Reason for that is:

 

A. Gta Vi doesn't need more than that. It's the holy grail of games so it's going to sell like crazy anyway.

B. The moment they announce Gta Vi the Gta v online mode will be considered "the older version of the game". They dont want to risk that.

 

The above scenario is my personal estimation. Now to the worst...

 

Worst case scenario (realistically).

Late 2024 announcement.

Late 2025/early 2026 release.

This sounds extreme but is it? The new work policy and the whole Corona situation is making things move slower than usual.

And this is no remake, its Gta Vi the most anticipated game in the gaming world!(inb4 laughable Half life 3 arguements).

So they need to get this right...

 

Anyway the crazy ass motherf*ckers released new footage in the form of Gifs for gods sake so maybe they just announce it by the end of the year so yeah..

If you however use logic i think the above post is a good indication.

I believe late 2023 because it will be the 10th anniversary of GTAV So it’s the best time to announce the game, so I don’t see a reason to announce it late 2024 sense the game been in development for long ass time.
