Unannounced project with $53 million allocated for undisclosed purposes which has now been written off in Q2. I think I've figured it out.

I trust Jason more than anyone else when it comes to insider infos. We can be rest assured then that it's not Bully that got cancelled. But this statement could also imply that it wasn't even in development so basically it can't be cancelled. We'll never know.

It's kinda sad either way because this might be bad news for Hangar 13 as a studio (lay-offs, etc.), very often bad news follow a cancellation of a large game.

Game projects getting canned isn't abnormal, often you try something and it just isn't good or the project itself has gone too far off the rails to be worthwhile, but $53m is a hell of a price tag for that lmao

Yea that's why I said it might be not good news for Hangar 13, especially given the last paragraph in Bloomberg's article.

Hangar 13 I didn’t like Mafia 3 but I’m always looking forward to anything new they do. They’re like Take Two’s Honda while Rockstar is the Bugatti. I hope they can make Mafia 4 now.

GTA V's dev cost was $265M so no way in hell this is a mainline game.

 

As I understand it, impairment charges can be used in a number of ways and one person's valuation may be different to another. When you're talking cancelled project, I'm not quite sure how you might assign a number to that but, as you say, I'd guess there would be more to it than just taking the amount spent thus far. However you slice it, you'd assume the future earnings potential of a GTA VI means GAAP wouldn't allow you to silently kill it with a mere $53m line on the accounts but I could be wrong.

With the Star Wars video game license no longer being exclusive to EA and is a bit more open now since Ubisoft is making one. Hangar 13 should jump at the opportunity Haden Blackman and a lot of those guys used to work for Lucas Arts and part of the reason why Hangar 13 is called Hangar 13 was because a lot of the devs were working on the now cancelled Star Wars:1313 game. If it’s not Mafia 4 please let it be Star Wars come on Haden Blackman it’s time to come back home to the franchise you love.

Obviously can't go into details but I've just received this leaked screenshot from GTA VI. I'm told it's from early on in development... extremely early... Probably the first few minutes, so the finished game may see some tweaks before release.
