Hm, perhaps have those other minor playable characters be sort of like the Watch Dogs Legion recruitment system? Main character can't die and if they get wasted they just go to the hospital, whereas when minor characters die, they die, when they get busted, they're in prison for good. Have them available as support in main missions and have them be the playable characters for certain side missions, like collection jobs or something.

Not quite like WD. I meant having the option to play as some of the supporting characters. Playing as them, you can see certain aspects of the story develop without the protagonist's direct involvement, and have access to their homes, places they frequent, different interiors, and certain activities if you want to.

Hm, yes that sounds quite interesting. Like playing as Little Jacob in IV, or Caesar in San Andreas (or Woozie with just a black screen :kekw:)

Damn I was exactly thinking of Little Jacob. Maybe you could sniff around and find out about the setup if you played as him before he called Niko about it, or go to the ambush as him. He could have a couple drug-related missions throughout the game and you'd have more involvement with the Jamaicans playing as him.

Cesar would be a good addition too because at the very least you wouldn't be chauffeuring him during his missions and you'd be able to play as him and drive or just sit in his car, or be involved in the whole lowrider scene as him instead of CJ. Playing as Cesar would also give you the perspective of Aztecas.

You could get know Catalina through Cesar too, before Carl comes into her life. She's a good example for this because she eventually parts ways with Carl and leaves the state, so she wouldn't be available to play as forever. While she's in the game, you can spend some time in the countryside as her.

Woozie had an assistant that was prominent during the Casino heist phase. I'd say even one of Truth's friends as they lived a whole different life and were supposedly small time criminals too. An LAPD officer could also add unique perspectives to the narrative, maybe Hernandez.

Again, this hypothetical feature would be optional but using it would give you access to different points of view and give you some insight on the story and what's to come/what's happening elsewhere.

I wasn't even talking about horses - I meant things like weapon maintaining, sit locations, tying people up and stowing them, crafting special ammunition/weapons, environmental story telling, realistic ambience etc.

RDR2 is Rockstars Magnum Opus and it is essential that GTA VI borrows as much of it as possible.

If rdr2 is the best Rockstar will ever be able to do then we're doomed

I really don't know about Leslie, for me after he left R* we got IMO the best game Rockstar Games has ever released. It's quite clear, that guy he lost an interest in singleplayer years ago.

The best indeed. I'd even say the most polished and fine-tuned. Looks like R* didn't need Leslie to catch 1000 bugs and whatnot (something mentioned in the lawsuit) after all. Not downplaying the guy, because I believe that he was one of the key people that shaped the R* vision/brand alongside the Housers, Garbut.

I'd add that Rob Nelson is a great guy. He has the "immersion, should make sense, things to be cohesive" vision that I like.

Pretty sure it was true and then it got kinda fixed, though some people still argue about how it still doesn't look the same as the unpatched version, that's why you have people saying they still prefer the 1.00 version even if it means not having the extra stuff (like guns and horses), let's hope Rockstar doesn't do something like this for gtaVI

I always thought that "player 01/02" from the files of RDR2 could be about a mission where Sadie was a playable character.
I think that last mission in Hanging Dog Ranch, when Sadie finally kills the O'driscoll putting an end on her revenge could easily be playable as Sadie.

Are we setting ourselves up for disappointment if we think GTA 6 will be like RDR2?

RDR2 is the new benchmark for open-world games ... it'd be a real shame if GTA VI didn't take heavy inspiration from it, especially if the rumors are true that this time it's going to be a more serious, mature story again alà GTA IV's for example.

VI most probably won't have many survival and sim-lite mechanics like RDR2 but the worldbuilding should be as good or even better considering it'll be made for significantly more powerful hardware. On the contrary it could have more open mission design (Cayo Heist esque) because that was the most criticized aspect of RDR2. Maybe they can add a higher difficulty mode with those sim features and more, I don't know.

Anyway, is there any remotely credible rumor that particularly mentioned that it'll be a more serious game like IV because I don't think they'll go in that direction anymore for the GTA franchise.

Leather Rebel

I'd like to see VI with RDR2/SA amount of content, not only interactive mini games but also long story/varied map, they're similar in that aspect. But i wouldn't mind if it's a quality over quantity deal like IV.

There are different game modes and different maps. Some guns are better for close quarter combat, some are better for long distance combat. In MW almost every gun is balanced and fun to use, so all weapons are viable and sometimes you get bored using the same loadout and want to change things up.

GTA is usually a little bit faster paced than RDR and it's strange to see a cartel boss/mafiosi looting bodies for materials and then setting up a camp or taking his backpack off to craft things.

Do you know something we all don't? Because last time I checked there were no details about playing as a cartel boss or 'mafiosi' - believe it or not, searching bodies and crafting special ammunition to inflict more damage wouldn't at all feel out of place in a GTA game. It's alarming how narrow minded people are when it comes to GTA VI.

I'm not sure about searching bodies for money but "crafting" custom ammunition, that you can't just buy at Ammunation would definitely work.

I think adding a looting and crafting system into GTA game would come out as quite "unbalanced", considering it's the modern era and how vast and diverse is the range of stuff you can interact with in GTAs. With unbalanced I mean if you could only craft weapons and bullets, it would be weird to only discover weapon loot and only have crafting skills for weapons, while weapons are just one part of the GTA. Vehicle customization and all the rest would be still just "buy and install" with one click in the shop. Other thing with attention to details would be, if you add the "weapon maintain" system, then stuff like refueling and oil changes in cars would kinda have to become a thing. (tbh I wouldn't mind that, but I don't think R* would bother to do that) It all makes more sense in games like RDR2 and Fallout games with survival theme and less interactive stuff.

More advanced looting system would sure be a nice addition tho. Now we can only "loot" weapons and money from the corpse, but I still can't believe GTA doesn't have a system where you can steal a smartphone for example and sell it at a pawnshop for few bucks or something. Looting weapons, car stereo, jewelry, etc from people and random locations around the map would fit GTA just fine and would be rewarding to discover all kinds of rare/special loot.

I want to unlock an ingame "trainer" or a debugging tool after completing 100%, where I can change the weather, spawn weapons/vehicles, change some of their stats, swap the player skin with NPC models etc. And also them to introduce the content creator of Online to the single player, then the game would last for a eternality. Add in an endless coop "survivor" mode, where you have to defend yourself from either gangs/zombies/aliens/looters/police and it would be perfect.

What kinds of crime do you do in Miami and the islands? I bet most of it is cocaine and then regular stuff like robberies, burglaries and car thefts.

Nah not really. Your GTAO empire doesn't really feel like an empire imo. You don't really control the city, gangs don't fear you, you gotta do the majority of the sh*t yourself.

Ofcourse you don't have an empire in GTAO. That's because you can't take over other's businesses. Like in GTA VC with story missions and in GTA VCS outside story missions.

After RDR2, I hope GTA VI gets a similar hunting system. Instead of one punch kill for every wild animal. Also adding collectable plants and herbs would be nice.

Being able to run player created races in SP against AI would be a dream, even if it only worked properly with the more simplistic street races and such.

And boat theft. It would be funny to see peds looting before a looming hurricane.

Even before that RDR1 was considered the best game of Rockstar, which is a San Diego production and as far as we know Leslie and North came in that project only to handle the technical side of things, not the game itself. Christian Cantamessa was the lead designer of RDR1 (He's working on Perfect Dark for Xbox now).

Leslie wanted GTAO in the first place. Hell even the fallout between Sam and him them started from when Leslie put his name in last place instead of Sam's name GTAO's intro. He was even credited as the 'Director and Designer' of GTAO and his next game sounds like an MMO like project so it's clear what he wanted.

You answered your own question. It gives a sense of progression, starting from a crappy gun and getting the best one after 30 hours, and also an opportunity to mix up playstyle. For example in Cayo Perico Heist when I'm not playing stealthily I don't use suppressor in the loadout and vice-versa. And VI should have better weapon balancing than V that would make more variable weapon builds considering they're increasing player freedom in both GTAO and RDO with each heist they add which I believe to be them testing waters for VI.

You seem to know your R* staff. Can I ask: Who is Jacob Krarup? The writer along with Dan for Bully. I’ve no idea who he is, but his name sounds incredibly Danish. I’m Danish too, and would like to pick his brain.

The infamous "Arthur is bisexual" leak stated that Marston, Dutch, and Charles were going to be 3 different playable protagonists, and I think Dutch would've had a few epilogue missions that showed his further descent into madness.

Yes, but without the need to go into a "director mode" and the ability to redo missions and activities.

Krarup does have a IMDb profile and according to that he is indeed Danish. But now after some quick search I found his old Twitter profile and blog. And he also was a head writer of Sleeping Dogs. If I'm not wrong this is his LinkedIn profile. Plus his MUBI profile and current website.

It's definitely this guy -
