GTA 6 Speculation & Discussion [Part 5.69]

I hope one of the things they add from RDR2 its the inventory system integrated with the weapon wheel. Probably we'll be able to eat to restore health and such things, and compared to GTA V, it would be alot better to have that integrated in the wheel's submenu than on the interaction menu

Do you think R* will add all of the features of RDR to GTA or will they try to differentiate both games so they don't feel like they are the same game but in a different period? Remember the time, where the fans thought, we would get the shooting mechanics of Max Payne 3 added in GTA V.

All? No, I don't think so. I doubt, that they will ask us to clean guns in GTA.

I still wish they did that. Shooting in MP3 just felt so damn satisfying.

Also they added the weapon wheel with all weapons from RDR1 into V, as well as the random encounter system. Also Strangers and Freaks got their start in IV then made their way into RDR1, then back to GTA, then back to RDR2. So they definitely aren't against carrying over good features.

I think the differentiating point is core game systems will remain different for each specific series. Strangers/& Freaks work in both series, as do random encounters and such. Weapon Wheels are a staple of modern gaming, but the core system and 'needing' to east and sleep may not work for a faster paced more action focused game, like GTA.

It's kinda' similar to BGS approach with TES & Fallout. Both share the same core DNA of a BGS RPG, but each series has its own unique systems. TES has the typical skills and perks system, and Skyrim introduced levelling skills by simply using them. But Fallout stuck with the SPECIAL system. I imagine RDR & GTA will always feel similar, but have different core mechanics that separate each other.

Although I would love GTA to play and feel similar to RDR2.

Are we setting ourselves up for disappointment if we think GTA 6 will be like RDR2?

I hope they will at least bring fishing over.

I don't know why, but I always enjoy fishing minigames in video games.

That was the plan but only Rockstar knows why it didn't happen.

Horses in GTA Online... I don't even wanna think about all the hit and runs, the mayhem, blood, and screams from the horses as the player falls off and the horse is being blown up by an RPG or run over 100 times a day

Damn, you are right, didn't know that. They really thought of adding horses, but not the shooting mechanics of Max Payne 3.

I don't think GTA VI will have the same "RPG" features as RDR2 but I could see them reintroducing some stuff like Hunger, Fat, Muscle, etc. from GTA SA. They could even use the same "core" subsystem from RDR2, but not show it in the same way.

I wasn't even talking about horses - I meant things like weapon maintaining, sit locations, tying people up and stowing them, crafting special ammunition/weapons, environmental story telling, realistic ambience etc.

RDR2 is Rockstars Magnum Opus and it is essential that GTA VI borrows as much of it as possible.

How do yall feel about having one main protagonist but several other playable characters? As in being able to do some activities (esp ones that feel out of place for the protagonist) as them, being able to call them up for missions without it being pre-determined by the game thus having different ways to approach most of the missions, and being able to actually play those parts as them instead of the protagonist.

This way the protagonist can be in a higher position from the start, or deal with more important, more difficult matters themself, and you can view the game world from other different perspectives when you want to.

Edit: I don't know if this actually showed what I meant fully lol. I don't mean multiple protagonists. The playable characters won't affect the story in a major way. They might even die mid-game. They're not as significant as a Franklin or a Trevor. You can just play as them too.

I don't see the next GTA protagonist crafting ammunitions or maintaining his weapons. But yeah, I like to see some things to return from other games as well, like for instance the executions/finishers of Manhunt or shooting while prone like Max Payne. If they won't release another Manhunt or Max Payne, they might as well just add some of their gameplay mechanics to GTA.

Sometimes when I'm playing RDR2 I get kinda sad thinking about Dan and Leslie leaving, wondering if maybe this is the best R* will ever be. Most of the heart is gone. Yeah there were strenuous working conditions, but it really just came down to people valuing the game as something bigger than themselves. That kinda standard for working isn't really for most people, but the perfectionism is what brought us this masterpiece imo.

kojima said before that rdr2 was his most anticipated game, and that rockstar is best :)

me wonders if technology is there now to make it so we can drive through the tennis nets, or is that too much physics? also me hopes that we can shoot coconuts and water falls out of em

I really don't know about Leslie, for me after he left R* we got IMO the best game Rockstar Games has ever released. It's quite clear, that he lost an interest in singleplayer years ago.

I wish they would take inspiration from the gun smith of Modern Warfare. With the right modifications you could turn an assault rifle into an SMG, LMG or even a marksman rifle. Pure gun pr0n.

Tarkov has the best in biz gun customization, sounds and ballistics for video game standards. If VI has even half of what Tarkov has it'd be amazing.

Hm, perhaps have those other minor playable characters be sort of like the Watch Dogs Legion recruitment system? Main character can't die and if they get wasted they just go to the hospital, whereas when minor characters die, they die, when they get busted, they're in prison for good. Have them available as support in main missions and have them be the playable characters for certain side missions, like collection jobs or something.

i wouldnt care about modding weapons.

usually you play until you get the best setup and then you keep using it until the very end.

so whats the deal about modding the weapon?

It's about making it yours, like the engravings or unique weapons from RDR2. And sometimes, the best setup for one person isn't the best setup for another. Somebody with bad aim might prefer a box/drum magazine, so they have to reload less. Somebody might prefer staying at range, firing semi automatic instead of fully automatic. Some people like switching up their playstyle for the fun.

Even before that RDR1 was considered the best game of Rockstar, which is a San Diego production and as far as we know Leslie and North came in that project only to handle the technical side of things, not the game itself. Christian Cantamessa was the lead designer of RDR1 (He's working on Perfect Dark for Xbox now).

Leslie wanted GTAO in the first place. Hell even the fallout between Sam and him them started from when Leslie put his name in last place instead of Sam's name GTAO's intro. He was even credited as the 'Director and Designer' of GTAO and his next game sounds like an MMO like project so it's clear what he wanted.

You answered your own question. It gives a sense of progression, starting from a crappy gun and getting the best one after 30 hours, and also an opportunity to mix up playstyle. For example in Cayo Perico Heist when I'm not playing stealthily I don't use suppressor in the loadout and vice-versa. And VI should have better weapon balancing than V that would make more variable weapon builds considering they're increasing player freedom in both GTAO and RDO with each heist they add which I believe to be them testing waters for VI.

There are different game modes and different maps. Some guns are better for close quarter combat, some are better for long distance combat. In MW almost every gun is balanced and fun to use, so all weapons are viable and sometimes you get bored using the same loadout and want to change things up.

GTA is usually a little bit faster paced than RDR and it's strange to see a cartel boss/mafiosi looting bodies for materials and then setting up a camp or taking his backpack off to craft things.
