im okay with badass female protagonist and i think it would be cool to see first female protagonist on gta, but if shes hacker and the game is about hacking, then it might be the first gta i never buy so basicly watchdogs lol. i would like to get watchdogs 2 to see the map and the bay area world you play in, but i would probably just drive around the city for fun not doing missions, because i have no interest to the hacker story. Hacker gta would be the most boring gta there ever was and f*ck that

In my opinion Rockstar really should have focused on creating an enormous city. I mean, I think it's time for realistic, enormous cities in video games.

If Sam and Rockstar developers are sampling the nightlife and driving Lambo's, etc "To experience what they're making" could indicate a modern setting. But it's not definitive.

 

We need supererogatory to find clues about domain names being registered again, to help clue us in. Unless of course there are no domains to register because of a past setting.

I want to dial every number by rotating the thumb sticks of my controller. Let me talk to the car dealer and hear his sales pitch before doing a negotiation mini game so I can buy my desired car. Then I want to sign the contract using the touch pad of the PS controller, insurance my car after reading through the terms and conditions and then acquire a licence plate.

Think it's definitely going to be set in present day after the success of GTA Online, they won't take risks that big anymore. They know the majority of 

10 year olds will want modern day for the next Online mode

Vice City will work fine in both present or 1980s. Miami is particular in many aspects , its a subtropical location with characteristics that you find only in Florida its a mix of caribbean , central , south american and north american cultures , it has personality , and there are particular natural and man made landscapes and landmarks in the region, all that works for a GTA Location. Having said that i prefer it to be in the 80s this time around but it will be a great location no matter the time period.

Honestly, it's not gonna affect gameplay in any meaningful way. I mean, in V Trevor was meant to be the pilot, Franklin the driver, and Michael the gunman, but only their special abilities really signify that. Hacker is just gonna be her role in missions and maybe like one ability outside of missions, like being able to hack ATMs for free money or something.

I know some people have said this in a joking way but they could try to fit a parkour specialist for the "young" crowd and Watch Dogs fans.

That in itself could be a special ability. Being able to traverse the environment faster than the other "stiffer" characters.

 

EDIT:

Just imagine: "Man, I wish I could go through this section faster. Well, I've got no choice but to pick the parkour specialist that I hate. That said he has its uses... Hmm... might be rubbing off on me a bit."

They should add an "agility" skill, but keep it grounded. No flips or wall runs. At low level your character has a hard time climbing fences, can't do car hood slides, does a slower animation for going prone, etc. At higher levels he won't be a parkour master, but will do things way faster.

Personally - i don't want a modern VC setting...

 

...but knowing R* and their last actions - we most likely get it for GTA VI.

This is sadly, but let's be realistic guys. Stop being blinded by nostalgia.

No matter the time period/tone/etc., I just hope the satire isn't as blatantly on the nose as it is in V. It almost feels that aspect of the game got way more attention than the story and gameplay; the previous games did a better job at balancing everything, IMO.
