So R* making GTA6 in the 80's VC wouldn't repeat GTAVC?

That doesn't make any sense.

They could explore the late 80s. Which were different than the early 80s.

GTA wouldn't work in the 80's because there's no TikTok...

/s

I think people forget that GTA is ultimately a crime game. And that works in any era.

I have to agree with this one, whether it's set in the past or modern day. Crime do always exist in every era

Vice City is not all about neon and 80s crime movies

If it's set in modern day i'm sure Rockstar able to make unique tone / vibe,

looking back from Red Dead Redemption (i thought it was gonna be stereotypical wild west story, but RDR has it own unique atmosphere)

I think the best would be so that story is late 80s and time jumps to 2020. So both past and modern day.

In online there should be option to play in 80s or 2020 world and i quess if you decide to switch to modern time from past the character could be the same but older age or separate characters if you chose so.

The worst part of hypocrisy is apparently late 80s is super different than Vice City, which is based on 1986.  Late 80s would only be 2-3 years after but apparently modern day 10 years later is "too soon" lol.

You say this as if rockstar has even started development

and that it’s 100% modern day

Numbered GTA parts is always sets in modern time (well, except GTA 2, but this was early R* era).

So, no Vice City 2 with neon, cocaine and Hall & Oates. Sorry. :kekw:

The 80's aka "Miami Vice: Scarface' Way" has already been done by Rockstar twice. It's time to let it rest and move on to new things. All I am hearing is "80's vibe" or "80's atmosphere". What the f*ck is that even supposed to mean? Can someone who lived through the 80's tell me what you mean by that?

Neon lights, cocaine wars and synth/pop music also exist in 2021 and every scene and theme from Miami Vice can be translated to modern times. Literally every popular 80's movie gif/image you keep posting here can also be done in 2021.

It will be set in 2025, so you are not that far off. But in the contrast to WD, it will be "timeless" aka "future proof" rather than "futuristic".

It's not the same vibe or as exciting. You can literally do that sh*t right now in V/Online.

This is a pic of my online character. It's not as fun when you're driving and see modern cars. It's about being in a time and place.

Reagan was out of Office and Bush came in, the USSR was collapsing in 1989, the economy had recovered from a recession in the early 80s, the 1989 overtown riots.

The AIDS epidemic, Satanic panic all played a role in the 80s and were topics that R* missed.

Aside from Trump tell me what the hell changed from the early 2010s to today aside from COVID-19 and a few emojis and tiktok.

That would just be cringe. It is the same with multiple Netflix dramas/comedy shows with elements of Americana, i.e. fashion, cars and locations from the late 1950's to 70's, which gives you the impression through the first episode that is the period the series is set in, only for a smartphone or Macbook to pop up outta nowhere, making the entire universe seem strange and kind of out of place.

Making a GTA set in the contemporary 2020's with 80's aesthetics, fashion and modern synth music would just be a very dissatisfactory move of Rockstar. Either that sh*t is set in the actual past with elements of its respective decade or it is set in modern time.

R* have usually been trendsetters, not one of the sheep. Vice City predated this new wackass homogenized 80's pop culture revival you see by a whopping decade and a half . Now 9 outta 10 games, movies, albums, etc. share the streamlined version of that "v i b e" and it's overdone to death. Let's move the f*ck on already.

Why would a criminal get on tiktok? Unless the protagonist is a teenage white girl.

You absolutely didn't get my post. The pictures you see aren't "80's aesthetics", it's just Miami at night time. Are you walking around in Miami and keep telling yourself "damn, they copied Miami Vice" ? The "80' aesthetics" or "80's vibe" you guys keep referring to is a idealistic interpretation based on Miami Vice and Scarface.

The most popular Miami Vice videos on Youtube are these:

Every theme, vibe, aesthetic and plot you see there can be replicated with a modern Miami (with modern fashion, cars etc).

Maybe the "80's Miami vibe" is lacking, because you are driving around with an old car and a out of place character in modern Los Angeles?

Try that in a couple years again, but this time pose in front of here:

On the surface, times seem the same. But I feel like the world is darker now. Much bigger political and economical divides, tribalism even among families. Freedom of movement obstructed. Could serve for some thematic material. That said, I'd still prefer '80s.

So Miami has kept it's neon aesthetics that made the city iconic since the 80's? Good for them.

I get what you're saying. The term ''80's aesthetics'' cannot be applied to Miami, as it is literally the city's own visual aesthetic as a whole. However, setting the next GTA in Vice City in modern times, based around modern Miami would seem peculiar as most players neither live in or have ever visited Miami. We don't expect Vice City to look like that today and practically speaking, it would seem like a cheap compromise to revive the spirit of Vice City, while keeping the modern conveniences from GTA V intact (e.g. hypercars, flying bikes, cellphones etc.). Count that up with radios playing modern synth pop, pedestrians (and if not the protagonist(s)) dressing either partially or fully inspired by the 80's and things just get weird.
