If you want modern day there are plenty of other interesting cities to choose than Miami.

It's not that hard they can look at building records and include the buildings that were around in the 80s and not the new ones.

 

It's going to be modern day VC with 80's VC vibes. And doing a time jump is a lot more than just buildings. You're talking about two sets of emergency vehicles, normal vehicles, clothing, NPCs, re-texturing a lot of different buildings, a ton of ambient objects, and a lot of little details that R* likes to include. Combine that with the fact that R* is doing it's best to move away from crunch culture and there's no way they're doing a time jump with that much work.

Honestly i also believe it'll be modern day, I just don't see a real reason as to why they'll go back, just because it's Vice City doesn't mean it cannot happen nowadays, besides, we're not even sure if it is Vice City

Time jump who said anything about time jump? The game will take place in one period if it's Vice City the 80s.

The crime in chicago has been dangerous and made national headlines all throughout the 2010s and still continues today. The music that came out of Chicago because of that violence also influenced rap music.

Maybe half of the game in 80s vice city and the other half in modern day chicago? That way they wouldn't really need to create two different periods for the same map, though this would mean that one map would replace the other without a way of going back

These are the adventures of a cable guy in a very dangerous neighborhood. Drugs, murderers and of course the main caracter "cable guy". There are a few more stories on other videos.

According to steamcharts RDO has had a peak of 6k players in the last 30 days, compared to 109k for GTAO. People just like GTAO more because there's more to do, more interesting vehicles, weapons, etc. It'll be the same story for GTA6.

rockstar referenced kkk and feminists in rdr2 and pretty much everyone got it, i don’t think rockstar would be somehow limited in their creativity by 80’s setting, but then again, modern times are more appealing for the sake of online continuity. i think the 80’s setting would mean more realistic and slow-paced approach on gameplay, like in rdr2, but that wouldn’t please many players. tho it might be that after gta iv rockstar made gta v bit less realistic and gritty because of gta iv reception, and now players whine about gta v being too cartoony, so rockstar might just go back to grounded realism, but i guess we’ll only wait and see

Present day Miami with 80s vibes wouldn't work at all and would come across as cheesy much like that video. Nobody and I mean nobody in Miami does that. You could have the 80's cars and the clothes and it will still feel out of place imo and look ridiculous.

Believe it or not, but we weren't stuck with horse and carriage in the 1980's.

There are many reasons why RDO is the way it is but the time period isn't one of them. It's Red Dead it's always been a western set in the past whenever you play the game you know not to expect flying jets, cars, cellphones, and modern technology and if you're expecting all that in a red dead game you're playing the wrong game.

 

Also the Red Dead fanbase skews a bit older and are mainly fans of the single player and don't really play online much. Red Dead also isn't as popular as GTA. RDR1, RDR2, and Revolver all sold well but never really reached GTA numbers.
