Why are you so assertive on GTA6 taking place in modern times? It's 50-50, you can't loose too much. Even if it will be set in modern times, please don't come back to say "I knew it guys". You definitely have no idea about it, nor do any of us

Yeah, it's actually pretty incredible how there are so many "leaked" maps, screenshots, textual descriptions and all of that, and yet, in terms of actual reliable information from reputable sources, we have literally nothing but Jason Schreier mentioning that "a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series" is in development and some tidbits from folks with a very mixed reputation like Inside Gaming and Tom Henderson vaguely hinting at very general aspects of the game like Vice City and a female protagonist. This is the sequel to the second best-selling videogame of all time, Rockstar could be setting the internet ablaze by just dropping a single teaser of their logo next to some palmtrees some dumb nonsense like that, but they're just staying quiet on the whole ordeal and letting us lose our minds instead wondering about what the hell could be going on with this game. I don't know if this is a bold new marketing strategy or if they're just taking the piss, but it is a weird approach regardless.

GTA6's online has to last rockstar another 10 years, possibly more. They can do a whole lot more with a modern setting than they can in the 80s. They'll most likely incorporate a lot of the 80s vice city vibe in a modern map to appease the "80s or nothing" people. But the game is 100% modern day.

You say that with such confidence which is why people here have been mocking you.  Its just as likely Rockstar will base GTA 6 in the 80s and they can have a developing map that takes it all the way up to modern day.  There is just as much evidence for that as there is for GTA 6 being modern day only, so you really should knock it off with the "its modern day 100%" stuff.

Don't really care if people mock me, I come on here to meme post. I don't think you understand the scale of work it would take to take a map from the 80's to modern day. Most we will get is a prologue in the 80s or a few flashback missions. But, I am willing to take the flak from the modern day deniers until they eat their words when the game comes out.

 

Edit: If anyone can provide a good argument as to why T2 and R* would choose to do the 80s instead of modern day I am open to having my mind changed.

Explain Red Dead Online then genius it’s not set in modern times of course it’s not doing as well as GTA online but Rockstar didn’t predict that would happen.

im sure they have some kind of marketing plan to release it at least within 2 years after the first reveal, hopefully that will be next year

Like you said, it's not doing as well as GTAO, which came out 8 years ago. They can't really do as much because the tech, references, etc. are limited because of the time period, just like it would be for the 80s. References and parodies are another reason a modern setting is more likely, if they try to reference and parody things from 40 years ago a lot of players aren't gonna get it.

 

According to steamcharts RDO has had a peak of 6k players in the last 30 days, compared to 109k for GTAO. People just like GTAO more because there's more to do, more interesting vehicles, weapons, etc. It'll be the same story for GTA6.

What has modern day Miami done recently where there's been a spotlight on it? Not much bruh. Building fell down and some spring breakers but that's about it.

 

If you want modern day there are plenty of other interesting cities to choose than Miami.

It's not that hard they can look at building records and include the buildings that were around in the 80s and not the new ones.
