Will you be going to the midnight launch??

In the dark future of 2069, nobody leaves there house due to the toxic plague and the damage to the atmosphere. So we'll all be waiting for the GTA VI pre-load to unlock at 12:01am UTC.

Ha, you're too sure they will be able to have it finished by then, don't you think?

They certainly did listen when IV was criticized for being too serious and made V much closer to 3D games in terms of tone.

They not only listened, they overreacted.

Crime isn't really a walk into the sunset happy ending occupation though. There are two endings for criminals death or prison.

It's just a backdrop. It's part of what makes the game work. You can hunt animals, skin then, eat them and craft with their skins, etc. But just like in real life, what can you actually do? Not much else.

But it has to be there. Like I said, if any one part of the game design doesn't work, or is flawed, the entire illusion collapses. It's a cowboy/outlaw game, set in the countryside, for the most part. Those things have to work and be believable, otherwise it all falls apart.

Objectively, I just can't say that " hunting animals " as a free-roam activity - just the way it is - is that particular, masterpiece alike moment we are talking about? It's simply isn't that part of the free-roam gameplay that's so polished and brought up to perfection, so much so, that I'll immediately jump straight to it while initializing the game. Simply isn't. It's far from being ultimately bad of course, yet at the same time, it's positioned at the same distance from being a masterpiece. Pretty mediocre. I don't know is it palpable enough, but there's a clear drop in quality from " nature's behaviour " you described above -  something that we mainly gaze upon and admire from the distance - and free-roam hunting activity as described above. It's too much of a discrepancy. Not to mention "legendary hunting", that no good piece of scripted crap, simply put there to amplify the free-roam hunting feel. If you've seen one, you've seen them all. Unnecessary grind.

Ultimately, it brings me back to one thing. Realism. Or, its opposite, whatever that might be. Rockstar is extremely inconsistent when deciding what should feel real and what should be, well, arcady, so to say. Character movement? - So much realism, abundance. Shooting mechanics? Total arcade, to the fullest. But, to mess things up, they'll make this "degradation system" that will add a bit of fake recoil, or whatever, and at the top of it all, guns will sound and look extremely real. Wild life? Almost like watching Animal Planet. Wild West a.k.a enemies? Total effin degenerates. Minor nuisance. It seems like Rockstar's attention span, while making games, varies from the one of the genius, all the way down to the one of the imbecile. Too much immersion breaking inconsistencies when it comes to gameplay, exclusively free-roam gameplay.

I think, that you are neglecting this part of RDRII. Not everything has to be or even should be about chaos. What I love to do in RDRII is go for a walk or ride, go fishing, play poker and so on. Just for example follow NPC in both GTA V and RDRII and you'll see, that in GTA V at some point they will act like their AI script has frozen so they will stand in one place for unlimited time etc

Well, I did say that one of the most enjoyable things, if not exactly my fondest memory from RDR2, was chilling in my tent, reading newspapers.. a top of a lonely hill, watching Valentine somewhere far, far below, through clouds and mist. On a rainy day.. Meat is taking its time, simmering slowly. Damn I can almost smell it.. and you know what? That would have been even more cool, relaxing and whatever if we had a real, wild west mofos to kill first. Not those fake a$s, scripted ones, from cutscenes that talk all the time, but those from the free-roam, blood thirsty, trigger itchy, degenerates constantly on our tail. Dozens upon dozens of 'em. It would have been ten times more fun to really have the feeling we are on the run up in this b!tch - I mean free-roam - asking ourselves, wtf is going on there, these a-holes are really out there to get us, how the f+ck are they so smart and well designed - mad props to R* - I need to set up my tent somewhere far, far away and rethink this $hit. Yeah, they won't find me up there, that's the spot.. Where's my f'cking gun? Oh, crap this one is weak as hell, I can get 3 or 4 of them with it, max - maybe when I git gud, even more, but eff it - oh, snap, I got it! I'll brake that piggy back at the camp, while no one is watching, yeah, ninja style and get me some real money that old fart Dutch has been saving for what-ever-the-hell was name of that cursed place we won't even see on postcard. I don't give a damn about that honor trash, I'm doing it for the greater good - having tons of fun with guns that possess so much variety, I simply have to try them all, while taking out marvelously designed AI that has so many different types of enemies, through never before seen game modes of the free-roam. Why in the hell is this game so much fun!? Getting blasted never felt so good! I want more of it. Next time I'll take out every single sheriff's man, sparing no criminal as well and waste them all, in such numbers, that the game itself is going to run out of them. Then, I'll make that town a ghost town and game will award me with platinum fake-a$$ trophy for slaughtering exactly 1000 of them in a single try.

Don't know whether that's descriptive enough or not, but hopefully it brings a point across.

The movement and animations need to be improved, I really hate how Arthur needs to reposition itself when he has to do anything, also holding a button to grab anything, like I understand it to loot bodies, but why to open drawers or picking stuff? Hope they change it

This is a great point although it's probably quite difficult as it would likely break a lot of the animations. It's the character getting into optimal position so they can ensure the character doesn't noodle.

It's especially annoying in RDR when tying up the horse, sometimes it can take close to 10 seconds for it to move into position and dismount.

I'm all for it when it comes to immersion. I know some people would rather no animation at all when picking up things, but I actually like it. What would have been beneficial for RDR2 is a small cutscene animation (like for animals) that allowed you to 'loot all enemies' so you didn't have to do it individually all the time after killing a bunch of people. Also, crafting multiple items at once. It's great what they did for immersion, but I feel like they could have added some quality of life stuff on top given the grind requirement for 100% and online progression.

True but the only GTA with somewhat depressing ending is IV (and V's A and B ending which aren't even canon and feels very underdeveloped). Every other mainline GTA had the walk into the sunset ending. To be honest GTA is a raunchy parody of Americana in almost every way so realism already went out of the window.

Rockstar themselves channeled what they wanted to do with IV into the RDR series much much more successfully so I don't think we'll get a GTA like IV anymore now that each entry comes out once in a decade. Chances are I am wrong but I like my odds.

What about TLAD and VCS though?

In TLAD you burn down the clubhouse and the gang already is fractured and Johnny goes to live in some abandoned house.

In VCS it's probably the darkest III era game. Vic's girlfriend dies during the story and Lance tells Vic he has some coke they'll sell later on which we now know is what leads to him dying in the opening of VC.

Exactly the reason I said mainline GTA games. Those DLCs and spinoffs gave Rockstar room to do things differently but nowadays how they work I don't think they would do try and do quirky things much especially with GTA. Off course I could be wrong with how unpredictable R* can be sometimes.

And VCS is possibly my 2nd favorite game from the 3D era (first being SA) and yeah, what happened to Vic is pretty f*cked. I believe part of it had to do with it being a prequel to VC and Dan & co. wanting GTA to go in a more darker direction which we see in IV and TLaD. Similarly in TBoGT we can see them reacting to the criticisms of IV which culminates in V and it's monstrous success.

GTA desperately needs a real competitor, both for SP and Online. Trouble is that no studio large enough is willing to take that gamble because of GTAs brand recognition and that, no matter how bad some aspects of the game are going to be, there's still a rock solid foundation within the baseline GTA formula as well as RAGE itself. Watch Dogs has gone full cyberpunk, Cyberpunk turned out to be garbage, and Saints Row is doing f*ck knows what for the next game, which also seems to take ages to develop.

Honestly don't have high hopes that GTA VI is gonna be the game I want it to be. It's probably still gonna be good, unless the world starts getting even less detailed and interactive than V.

Also it seems kind of like Rockstar unknowingly backed themselves against a wall. They almost have to set it in modern day in order to continue Online and make those sharkcard sales from little Timmy buying an Oppressor. But what's really the main big crimes commited these days? It's all cybercrimes. There's no more big bank heists, huge gang wars and more hard drugs flooding the US than even Kate Moss could do. I mean, these days you just order your drugs online (on the dark web) and get it shipped to your house by mail. Not even exaggerating. It's the last days of the outlaws all over again. "We're thieves in a world that don't want us no more." Sure, there's still petty theft, cars being stolen and people getting murdered. But nothing that you could actually focus a GTA story around without it seeming ridiculous. Like, what's a hacking mission look like? At best you'd be fighting off waves of enemies while some files transfer or a virus gets uploaded or what the f*ck ever. GTA doesn't have the advantage of magic stick hacking, like Watch Dogs, so what would a hacker focused story look like? Lester sitting at his desk, reading other peoples e-mails?

Press F to pay respect for the baby whose parents died too early, Martinez and Lance ruined Vic , Vic should have abandoned Lance and gtfo with all of Mendez's coke or just refuse Martinez job.

I just wish open world crime games were a thing again in general. I loved f*cking around in those maps and playing with different new features that each game had.
