Business Security Upgrade Myth

I have a friend who says security upgrades do absolutely nothing to stop you from getting raided. That the frequency or randomness of raids stays the same. Surely that shouldn't be the case?

I have a a lot of money and play this long term so even if they do a smidgeon of help, I might consider buying them. Unless they actually do nothing?

They extend timers of cooldowns. So generally you still get raids, but less frequently.

But then there are ways to bypass them. For example stick to single vehicle sales for bunker (buy supplies, sell once produced (buy another supply batch before making sale)). For NC assign 5 best businesses (bunker, cargo/hangar, meth, coke, money) and sell once  coke or meth reaches capacity (alternatively you can keep  high popularity, but that's kind of waste of time, even if you just do DJ swap method).

Regarding MC businesses, they are just garbage. Don't bother. Or better don't bother with any businesses and just do Casino or Cayo heists. maybe have something like nightclub running in a background.

Your friend is misinformed, @ambi3nt is correct.

He's also right about the MC thing honestly, in my humble opinion those companies suck massive balls, if you can afford it then having all MC companies + a nightclub and never going MC is the way to go, nightclub staff will 'grind for you' leaving you time to either do CEO stuff (i dont even know if these can be raided lol, i sure have never seen it) or to just have fun screwing around in freemode. Then every few playsessions (once a week or whatever) check your nightclub cargo, deliver when its getting full. When below something like rank 500 your best bet is deliver in a small or solo sess, but once you get a high rank you can deliver your nightclub cargo in full sessions (by then most of the time your rank plus the strength of the nightclub truck will 'scare off' griefer kids, and you get 1% bonus per player, so for a full session thats ~25% bonus plus the 5% cut for tony, so that means best case scenario your 1.55mil (full nightclub cargos) turns into 1.93mil with tony's cut already covered)

About the upgrades (also the other ones) just buy them when-ever you can spare the money, i dont even remember the last time i got raided on my main character (its literally been years) and i've been playing a new character for a few months now (that also has bunker nc etc) and that one hasn't even been raided yet. Again though, MC companies suck and you might just wanna buy them, set them up, and then never look at them again/dont buy MC company upgrades (you dont need the MC company upgrades for the nightclub staff to be able to make full use of them, thats what the nightclub upgrades are for)

So really, security upgrades work as advertised & your friend is wrong, but the even better option is to never do the MC companies manually, your MC shiz cant get raided if you never even register as MC 😛

Agree with what @ambi3nt and @suicidal_banana said. Always worth re-sharing @Tez2's definitive tweet on the subject:

As you can see the security updates double the time before you get raided. Note the time keeps going up, but a raid won’t activate for an MC business until you register as president after the time has elapsed. So it can be difficult to keep a track of your time and why it feels random.

But as said by the guys above, MC businesses aren’t really worth the hassle now except to feed the Night-club. And to do that, they don’t need any supplies and stock, and won’t get raided.

Not 100% true - but it is the normal state of affairs.  I've had my Meth lab raided as I was a CEO - and have photographic proof of this.  Thankfully it's exceptionally rare.

Since last Summer's DLC (that wasn't a DLC) came out the frequency of MC/bunker raids have gone up noticeably. I've gotten raids back to back and even three in a row. And since Cayo Perico I've been getting raids AFTER I have sold ALL of my businesses. The bunker raids now seem to happen the instant after it's half full.

What normally triggers a raid is having a lot of product combined with prolonged downtime in free roam not doing any missions, thats what I found. I am always doing something so I rarely get raided.
During times you plan to go afk, never do it outside. Always be inside one of your properties. Being inside one of your properties disables raids from happening so always do so if you need to step away for a bit. That or just retire from being a CEO or MC president.

For those who keep getting raids on businesses they are not interested in doing should simply sell the product thats stored there and bam no more raids. A lot of people I find complain about frequent raids on a buisness they have not touched in a long time but stupidly leave lots of product in said businesses that is triggering the raids to begin with. Possessing product is what triggers raids so simply get rid of it, problem solved.

As so who grinded MC A LOT in the early days of his criminal career in GTAO this:

Quote

The only way to stop the raid timer is to play missions/heists/adversary modes or do any sort of work in freemode such as resupplies ..etc

is a bunch of BS. Raids will hit you regardless and chain raids at that, security upgrade or not.

Don't waste your time on MC, except in case you like to drive VERY SLOW vehicles for a very, very small profit around the map all day long.

Double $ this Week is 840.000k for Coke. Thats Not a small Profit. And please dont compare it to CP heist.

If you like biker stuff you probably won’t thank me for this, but seriously, I’d spend your time elsewhere.

Even on X2 it doesn’t compare favourably to a full bunker or Nightclub, and that’s before you get to the real problem - the god awful delivery vehicles.

Not only are they generally tedious and slow, it’s extremely easy for a low skill troll to blow up. Yes you can plug your router into a potato to get your own session, but then you have the issue you won’t have enough time to shift the entire stock in a single sell mission unless you’re lucky and get the big trucks. It’s only been viable for a group of friends - unless you go to lengths of installing third party software to only allow connections to their IP, you’re going to get griefers in the mix with you as well.

The Casino Heist would also give you a much better return, but more pertinently there is no point in pretending Cayo Perico doesn’t exist and that it isn’t a far superior way to make money.

Yes Im all for doing things that are fun not just the best at making money. But I find it hard to see how the Biker sell missions are anything other than a steaming turd. So if it’s the opposite of fun and doesn’t make money, what’s the point? I’d love them to overhaul the sell missions - have you carry the stock in duffel bags and use the vehicle of your choice, have more NPC combat at the drop off etc. That sort of change would make them worth doing again occasionally, even if they didn’t up the money.

I agree with the consensus that unless you are very new and still stuck in the "grind loops" stage of building your money and businesses, I stay clear of the MC businesses. The only thing they are good for is feeding the Night Club. A few things I have observed:

Night Club: If you only want to sell a full night club, which is around $1.6 Million, you have to jockey around your technicians in the Warehouse Management tab. Once in a while I do this, selling a full night club. Once you do get your NC to over $1 Million, you start getting a little more money per sale, because Tony's commission is capped out at $100K. So selling a whole night club of goods for $1.6 Million you pay the same $100K you would if it were at $1 Million. But beware that this only saves you around $50K, which may not be worth it. I have found, anecdotally, that I prefer to sell my NC goods once a day for around $800K. Yes you lose the Tony Tax discount, but the 5 businesses that seem to me to give the most bang for the buck are Weapons, Cargo & Shipment, South American, Pharmaceuticals, and Cash Creation. What I do is I always start with all 5 technicians on those businesses. If I have to wait to sell, or don't feel like selling at around $800K, then when Cash, South American, and Pharma all fill up, which are the quickest to fill, then I move Cash and Pharma to Organic and Documents. But these two don't seem as profitable. I personally like to sell around $800K even with the higher Tony percentage. Seems to me to be the most bang for the buck.

That said, as soon as you are financially able to, buy all the non-cosmetic upgrades for the Bunker and Night Club. I even upgraded all my MC Businesses, but that was a while ago when I first started playing and was actually grinding money, including (yuck!) the MC business sales.

As for Bunker sales, there is a thread on here about selling full bunker solo. That is all I do now! I can't be bothered selling my bunker contents lol 6 times a day (AFK/Solo) for $210K a pop. I only ever sell my full bunker solo. You have to give up small amounts of money, but it's actually a lot more time efficient. Here is how you do it, in a nutshell. When your Bunker is full ($700K/$1.050 Million) sell to Los Santos. If you come outside and you have either the one with the 3 Insurgents (Not Merryweather!) or the 2 Phantom Wedges, you're good to go! If you get the Marshals, Dune Buggies or the Merryweather Insurgents, just find a new session and try again. Note: make sure you temporarily set your spawn point to your Bunker. Sometimes RNG is on your side and you get the 3 Insurgents (15 minute timer only) or the Phantom Wedges and you get your $1,050.00. Other times you have to find a new session several times until you get one. You lose a little every time you switch sessions, but I think its more than worth it for all the time you save!

As far as raids go, make sure if you are AFK/Solo that you DO NOT FORGET to retire from your CEO or disband your MC club. One or two times, I got raided while AFK and didn't know it, so I lost everything in the bunker or NC. This was when I first started playing and was new. Bunker and NC raids are not hard to deal with, to be honest. But you DO NOT want to die while fighting the cops in front of your NC or I think you lose everything. Be careful with defending your Bunker. First couple of times I did, about 6 months back, I lost a lot of stock by going in with my Oppressor MKII and blowing all the enemies up, but it turns out I blew up one of the trucks of bunker stock. So if you get raided on your bunker, try to fight all the enemies on foot rather than using Oppressor or Sparrow missiles, just to be safe.

Which is actually pretty much on par with the regular Bunker sales, adding the time consuming sell missions and the millions of raids you will encounter that will eat even more of your time and money, so it is at very best bottom-bottom tear OK-ish in a x2 week.

Edit about Bunker sells - before uninstalling I was selling after 2 full resupplies. It was the way I found best time efficient for me. Only two missions that can screw you up are Dune Buggies and some of the Marshals locations can be bad, but in general it is two vehicles or 1 Phantom and you are finished in between 10 to 20 minutes (MW Insurgents sales are just long).

I have to admit, that I use to have a very exotic Play style.

We play closed friend/ solo public only, so No griefers in our GTA Life. We Like it quiet, Others May Call it boring. I even Like the MC sell Missions, because they are so slow and boring 😁I prefer staying CEO mostly for CEO Work etc. When supplying Coke, I switch to Editor to avoid These horrible MC costs...

My Bunker isnt running, because I hate the sell Missions, so No daily Costs there.

This system fits totally to my playsyle, I know there are more effective ways, but I am Level 600+, I have 200 Million+ in The Bank and everything I ever wanted, so....

Security upgrades make a difference -- but NOT a practical one for the bunker, if you sell as soon as it's full or if you make single vehicle sales, and the nightclub if you sell all as soon as coke/meth/cash are full.

I don't own the security upgrade in my nightclub, and in the bunker I didn't own it for a very long time, until I once forgot my bunker was full for hours and lost half a mil to the Valkyrie raid mission. But that's also the only time I messed up a raid mission, so buying the upgrade after the fact wasn't worth it either. Nowadays my bunker is shut down anyway.

For the MC businesses the security upgrades do make a significant difference but nobody should be running MC businesses in 2021.

i still run my MC businesses and sell in full lobbies

nothin wrong with havin coke and meth (even counterfeit cash) for extra money on top of the nightclub and bunker

the way to make money is to spend. upgrade all your businesses. also purchase all your supplies and 30 mins after you get the text that supplies arrive, just repurchase.

then sell when full or when product gets to at least 80%

i have made hundreds of millions doing this

Wait, does popularity affect raids and/or can nightclubs get raided?  This is news to me

Actually, Rockstar did an update awhile back that made it worth it.
One popularity mission now does 25% of the bar.
At full popularity it takes ~4 hours to drain to 75%
From 100% to 75% is $44K
The mission pays $2,500-5,000 and takes 5-7 minutes.
That is $46,500-$49,000 in 5-7 minutes, or close to what the Client Jobs pay.

I mean, Cayo now destroys all of these, but, in comparison to all the other money making methods, it's a good one to throw in for good pay and a bit of variety.

With the bunker, one full purchase of supplies gets you 20% of product capacity. 1-25% of capacity is a single delivery vehicle.
Buying supplies, selling what's there, then coming back when it's empty (140 minutes later) to rinse and repeat is a very effective method and keeps it a single delivery vehicle.

But with two purchases you have the chance of getting one vehicle and basically save yourself one sell. Like I said - I've found this way the most time efficient for ME.

I used different approaches when I was still running the bunker:

  • Buy supplies, then sell (20% product / 1 vehicle)
  • Buy supplies, do 1 steal mission after supplies are gone, then depending on if it was 20% or 40% supplies, either sell (24% product / 1 vehicle) or purchase supplies again and sell (48% product / 1 or 2 vehicles)
  • Sell full bunker solo, restart if it's Dune FAVs or 5-drop Insurgents. (Most monster truck missions are possible from Farmhouse.)

They all worked for me but selling full bunker solo seemed to be the most effective.
