JaeDan 101
I joined a GTA race hours ago using the T20 and after I reached it's top speed, it's slowing down. I even tried to respawn to repair the vehicle because it might have an engine failure or something. Can any of you tell me why it's slowing down? Standard Deluxe 59
Catch up. Its on by default so rarely anyone changes it and it punishes you for being first by handicapping your top speed while letting everyone behind you use their cars' full potential. It actually is but not by the same extent as the others. Rule of thumb with the catch up mechanic is that it will act the hardest on the cars with the highest fInitialDriveForce value, so cars like the Krieger, Deveste Eight and the Emerus will suffer the most with this mechanic as they're the the supercars with the highest value in the class. The Tezeract will barely even notice the catch up acting because it's the supercar with small amount of value, it's high top speed comes from the fact that it is the supercar least affected by the air drag. MechanicMammal
The cars top speed goes down when it hits the cars rev limiter by about 5 to 10 mph and then you accelarate back to full speed and repeat, this is normal in GTA and worse with some cars than others. Thats why Broughy will take a average speed over 100 meters or so to attain a true top speed. But it could be catch up assuming that you were in first place. How to win any catch up race, Stay behind the first place player until the final corner, then fly past using his slipstream. Unless the act of you tailing them puts them off and they crash, if this happen's depending on how far you are away from the rest of the pack and how far through the race you are you may slow down to let someone else get nerfed or make a run for it. I wish catch up was off by default it really sucks. And on some stunt races can actually make you fail long jumps etc because you do not have the speed to clear them. #Ban catchup Edited April 8, 2021 by MechanicMammal
Pedinhuh
So I know that OP has got his answer but I decided to ask in here as to not make another thread for this. As I initially said, the catchup mechanic will reduce the top speed of cars according to the how much powerful their engines are, based on the fInitialDriveForce value on their handling data. My question is: What are the OTHER cars least affected by this performance, after the Tezeract in the supercar class. Maybe is there a sports car, muscle car or any other cars that are worthy to mention as being "immune" from this god forsaken mechanic? I'm thinking the Voltic, but I have no access to the handling files as i play on PS4.
