eblank8
I have seen that many people are having problems and most are ATI Radeon Video card users. I got an interesting error message when i restarted today. Here it is: http://cydevr.net/cyblank/images/error3.JPG It seems that the problem is with the display drivers. I sent an email to ATI and explained the problem. I also noticed a driver for my Radeon 9000 Pro that was updated on May, 15, 2003. I tried it out and it still freezes. They need to make a new update soon with GTA VC support. This is my theory of the freezes. I could be wrong, but it is my best bet. Another thing is that most users are also using WinXP, as I am, and this could also be another cause.
djspl
When I first purchased VC I was getting a hard crash every 35-90 minutes. After updating my drivers from the CAT 3.2's to the new CAT 3.4's, I have had only 1 hard crash in 3 days. I know this hasn't fixed everyone's problems, but I am happy. Vicetopia
The only thing about GeForces is that they don't run Doom III very well. My Ti4200 runs Doom 3 at like 10 FPS, whereas the makers of Doom 3 are designing it to run awesome on the new Radeon. Then again, I have the E3 demo and it may not be tweaked frame-wise yet. Sorry for diverting the topic
djspl
That's why I will never use an ATI video card.GeForce all the way! I used to have a GF3Ti200, and since getting this 9500 pro, I have had no other issues but the one I described above. All of my games look much better because I can run 4xAA and 8xAF at 1150 x 860 x 32 all day long on all my games. My friend's GF4Ti4600 chokes with AA and AF on. ATI cards and drivers are comparable to NViDia's nowadays. Notice I didn't say better, that is for you to decide, but if you aren't running AA and AF, you are missing out! Yourself
Wouldn't it be "Bad drivers may be the cause of freezing"? Anyway, i have a gf4 ti4600 and runs fine with aa and af @ 1280*1024.
jimmsta
Yeah... I can't get VC to run on the CAT3.4's at ALL... the 3.2's from Omegacorner.com work fine, but the new 3.4's crash the game when it tries to load up the menu, and ends up giving me random text/graphics on the screen, then it is followed by a BSOD, and the file is win32.sys, or something... quite probably something that accesses the video drivers. I have had no other issues with my radeon, or vice city other than using the CAT 3.4's... I'm also running the Via Latency Patch 0.20b19, from www.georgebreese.com. I'm thinking that maybe the patch is screwing up the drivers some how... or perhaps the fact that I installed the drivers without turning off my virus protection... I don't get it either way.
