[San Andreas] What's the best mod to use to open up all areas from the start of the game?

Hello, I know there are several mods that have been around since forever, but it's not clear to me if any are deprecated or if there is some community consensus if there is one that is superior, etc. that I should use.

Right now, the most likely candidate seems to be San Andreas Opened Up but I have no idea if that is a good one to use, since it basically came out when the game first released.

Other mods I am using (or intend to use on an new playthrough with an open world) include:

  • 2DFX
  • Widescreen Fix + optionals
  • GTA V Hud 2.0
  • Other assorted small texture mods to reskin some of the clothes/vehicles/weapons.

And of course, cleo, modloader, plus stability patches like silent.

What do you guys use to open up your game? Thanks!

I use ROCKETMAN cheat when C.R.A.S.H. car is waiting for the train to pass in Jefferson in one of the initial cutscenes, that way after the cutscene CJ dies and clothing shops, some interiors, tattoo parlors, Ammu-Nations and some places I'm forgetting now open up, without any icon on the map.

Open Up mods from this era had a problem with the phone calls from the early LS mission strand not coming in when they should because the call script (mob_la1) shuts down then the cities are unlocked. Early on, make sure you get the call from Hernandez warning CJ against leaving town, and a call from Sweet about the gyms getting unlocked. If you don't get these calls then you probably won't get calls for missions from Cesar and Tenpenny, so missions can't progress. (SASE v1.00 is a save editor that can display which scripts are running.)

 

BTW, unlocking the street races early is a straight forward process that can accomplished pretty easily with a cleo script.

Thanks, yeah, i recall seeing something about that issue in the Opened Up release thread, but that seemed to be something to do with another mod interfering with that call script.

 

I guess the real question is, that given that those mods were developed with a very old main.scm script, how much has that changed over the years? That's a good metric though, I'll test and see if those calls are being made.
