So I've only been playing it for the past few weeks (when I can) and I can't grasp what's going on with certain things in story mode.

 

Firstly I keep getting ambushed with no bounties. It's a bunch of people that'll simply appear on the map and start to attack me, sometimes I kill them all and sometimes annoyingly I die. I could be on the way to somewhere and it'll happen; they kill me, it'll put me back close by where it happened and I carry on with my day. It happens pretty often.

 

So an example was earlier just after I left camp, a bunch appeared and it said something like "enemies are near camp don't lead them back". But I had little chance to because my horse was doing what it wanted jumping over rocks while I'm trying to shoot and I fall off. One of them comes running up I'm frantically trying to activate dead eye and he simply stabbed me and I died. It reloaded me close by, I went back though and all was well - wtf? About 10 minutes later it happened again but this time I killed all 4 of them. When standing over their bodies it identifies them as "stranger" - what do they want from me?

 

Secondly I seem to be filling health all the time. Arthur's apparently ill at the moment so does this have something to do with it? It doesn't seem to be something I can remedy so I'm assuming it's something to do with the storyline? It's just annoying because sometimes I just cruise about finding the random events (when not getting attacked) and I'm topping up often.

They game seems to be a bit glitchy, too. So for example I met some guy in the middle of nowhere who seemingly gave me tips on plant remedies etc... Then afterwards I got on my horse and he starts screaming that it HIS horse, dragged me off and started trying to slash me with a knife. In the end I killed him and it got marked down as a negative.

 

Another example is where 3 people in a camp had a dude tied up, I rescue the guy and all's great. But a while later I encountered the same scenario, so I rescued him again. No joke that I encountered it yet again, but this time I couldn't be bothered and just cruised on by. 

 

Is this just my hopeless gaming skills or is this pretty much how things go?

Sadly thats the game as used to be. Strangers are super weird and glitchy, they cannot wait few seconds for ride while I get rid of horse cargo and starting being really ironic towards me. It happens all the time.

I have 40 hours in it, and well Im super bored and confused a lot so thats probably my first Rockstar game that Im skipping for while and rush afterwards.


No fun allowed, was probably rockstar motto in making this game...

Lmao, this thread, you are just highlighting the fact that your copy of the game is f*cked up, and how this become even more problematic, as you don't even know the most basic mechanics of it.

Random events and game is not glitchy. The glitchy parts about the game is some item or missing item bugs, epilogue and annoying cold weather dialogue bug. NPC AI is fine.

 

You complained about some bunches ambushes you. But this is the game wants to show you. You are in the wild west. The place where everybody robs each other. If you dont wanna die, just keep steady and let them rob you. BTW, you are an outlaw too. There are a lot of camp fire smokes visible around map. You can follow these smokes and visit their campfire and rob them. Also rob some trains, rob some stores. This is the Outlaws story. Dont worry about honor level. Robbing is not decreases honor level much as killing. Story choices and helping some people in random events always keeps your honor high. So rob everyone freely.

As i mentioned, you are an outlaw in one of the most known gangs in the heartlands. So this place is O'Driscoll gang territory as much as Van Der Linde's territory. These both gangs are rival. Thats why O'Driscoll's immidiately kills you. If you need backup to save yourself from them, just stay with your gang while doing missions with your gang.

If you have bounty on your head. Just let them arrest you. You'll end up in the jail without dying.

Can you tell us where your gang camp is?

 

That would help.  I rarely got Bushwhacked in the Heartlands, whereas outside Phodes [[second camp by the lake]] the Lamoyne Raider were always just to the right of the camp exit about 50 yards by some rocks.

 

If you've gotten that far then something you did at Horshoe Overlook camp outside Strawberry-a mission you had to do collecting money is the answer to the health issues.

 

As far as the horse issue and the guy giving you plants?  You might just have hopped on the wrong horse.   I have vision issues so make sure I braind my horses tail and run a cropped Mane [[Mexican style]]  make it easier to grab correct critter in a hurry.

 

You will find-at least on the Trail, most NPC's in the game are Dicks.   No idea why R* thought that was neccesary because in those days people minded their manners to not get shot.

 

How often, if you were riding a horse in the wilds, you come across some dude strapping double handgun, a rifle, shotgun and dynamite sticking out of every orifice on his body. do you think you are going to get nasty with them?

 

That said-there may have been an update since I last had a chance to play-bout three weeks or a month as I was actually out on a small ranch owned by a friend who was down in Mexico-my wife was caretaking their critters and had someone[s] outside at Odark-thirty [[they tripped the motion detectors and are on camera]] whike she was in the shower so I took Love and Peace-my matched .357's and Hailstorm, my pump .12 along with some NVG and hung out in the dark areas in case they returned-wanted to have a friendly chat, maybe a Bullet and Corpse Dance but, no joy.

Oh and to add to what GroveStgtaV said-couple of other wauys to up Honor:

 

Do Chores at Camp and donate $$ twenty bucks at a time.

 

Fish and toss them back

 

Say "Howdy"  [[Greet]] a bunch of people in towns-makes you sound like a Wal Mart door greeter but apparently R* thinks it's Nifty.
