bananaking13
Think of it like this. The bad guys are all gone from Vice City (well, almost.) and there is no mafia/cartel interference in there anymore. Cortez moved out, Diaz died, Sonny got killed and Tommy went legit. Tommy becomes the king of that town, has access to all the goons, weaponry and vehicles he would need, all while maintaining a perfectly legal profile and tying all loose ends at once. I think this is the best ending any GTA game could get, and even better is that it's a realistic ending and a balanced one too because we lose Vance and soon we know Ken gets sent to rehab, implying he overdosed or Tommy was tired of his BS. I loved Vice City's story so much, but my only complaint about is that we barely get to see anything from the characters. Both VCS and San Andreas somewhat solve this problem by giving us more Lance, Diaz and Umberto (and Phil Collins) but I wanted more from Juan Cortez, BJ Smith, Mercedes, Cam Jones, Avery Carrington and Mitch Baker (who we never see again after becoming friends with Tommy). The voice acting was crazy too, I'm sure it cost a lot of money to get Ray Liotta to do Tommy's role, but Diaz, Umberto Robina, Lance, Ken, Paul, Juan & Mercedes Cortez all had really good voice actors as well. San Andreas kind of shows us that it doesn't go so well for Ken, but at the end Ken becomes an accountant in Los Santos getting a gold record with Madd Dogg while Tommy is still alive by 1992. Lance's death is sad, but ultimately only one person could run Vice City. Ondr4H, MrPikmin16, Crystalien and 1 other
kobeni
I mean it's literally just your typical rags to riches storyline but I get what you mean. Edited April 3, 2021 by DownInThePMs

Ondr4H
Well I love it too for same reasons... Also Tommy get biggest mansion in city for free mid game.
billiejoearmstrong8
It has the most victorious ending, and probably the best from the protagonist's pov. Best in general? Not necessarily, I personally prefer the sadder/more emotional endings. It's very enjoyable though, walking triumphantly out of your mansion seeing two limos parked there for you and knowing all your problems and enemies are dealt with and you basically own the whole city is extremely satisfying. CryptReaperDorian
GTA VC's story is basically a mash-up of Scarface, Miami Vice, and Carlito's Way. It certainly isn't overly original, but the finale is arguably the most memorable within the franchise. Personally, I think another feel-good, rags-to-riches story is long overdue from R*. Ever since GTA IV, or maybe GTA VCS, virtually every story they've told has had a tragic ending and/or has been riddled with multiple tragic plot points throughout the game. GTA V was advertised to be such a departure from the trend, but even that fell more into the "tragedy" category, albeit for different reasons. (Simply, the endings are rushed, and the bond between the three protagonists is never developed to a satisfactory level. They just bicker and fight to the bitter end.) I've loved most of these stories, but I don't think it'd be wise idea to make every upcoming story into a tragedy story. nick323f, Tru Company and MrPikmin16
Algonquin Assassin
It’s the best of the 3D era, but still not as good as A Revenger’s Tragedy.
El Penguin Bobo
I’d say it’s the best in terms Tommy living a great life. But in terms of it being an ending that has more depth, I disagree. A fellow forum member on here has stated the flaws of the Vice City ending, can’t remember his name. The setup was nice but we needed more cutscenes instead of just static dialogue when you kill Lance for example. On 4/2/2021 at 9:51 PM, bananaking13 said: Tommy went legit He did? The guy is still a criminal, he still owns crime properties and if I were to guess, he’s still working with those companies to make even more money. String
The one minor thing that irked me about VC's ending on later playthroughs is as OP mentioned that the Tommy Ken partnership doesn't last, atleast Ken does have a happy ending and presumably Tommy keeps running Vice for a while too but it's still a shame seeing the two arm in arm talking about a grand partnership to rule the city underworld in VCs ending and the next game it's gone kaput. Still, I'd say Vice City and San Andreas have my favourite endings, was good to see things go well for the protagonists and good things to come for them and the darker endings of subsequent Rockstar games kind of makes these two endings seem more enhanced in its appeal to me for some reason. Don't know if that makes it the best but it is among my top favorites for sure. MrPikmin16, Crystalien and nick323f 2
nick323f
Vice City and San Andreas endings are realy victorious, wholesome, and make you want to replay the game! GTA3 and Liberty City Stories both have satisfying finale, and the one in Vice City Stories after Vic wiping out all enemies is just bittersweet (if you know what comes next chronologicaly). Corndawg93
I agree, I did love the end, not because my garbage experience came to an end but because how Tommy left things, with about a billion people dead in his mansion and Him and Ken just brushing it off.... yes I said something positive about Vice City Edited October 7, 2021 by Corndawg93
KingAJ032304
I truly think TBOGT has the best ending but really any from GTA IV/TLAD works Edited October 7, 2021 by KingAJ032304
kobeni
Goes to show sometimes a straight forward rags to riches happy ending is the best way to go. I liked how both VC and SA really made you feel like you owned the whole town or state by the end. Saints Row 2 came close. nick323f
EkaSwede
Vice City is still one of my favourites of the 3D era, but I'l say that the game felt really really short. Granted it was made in like 11 months and was originally meant to be an expansion of GTA3 and there's quite a lot of stuff cut out fromt he game. But maybe that's what makes it a good game. You want more. nick323f

Don’t get me wrong I like the asset missions, but working for the Cubans and Haitians feels too much like a chore. The actual ending is awesome, but it feels like everything between killing Diaz and Keep Your Friends Close suffered due to the game’s short development cycle.
