GTA SA on Steam with PS5 Dualsense controller

Has anyone solved this problem? 

 

I just bought San Andreas on Steam and a new PS5 controller. I hoped the combo would be almost plug n play, since Steam announced PS5 controller support. But it's not. 

 

I've been able to mod the button mapping in Steam's interface, but walking, cycling and driving use different buttons so I can't even make it past the first mission. 

 

I searched and saw there are some clever utilities, like DS4Windows (if you have a Dualshock). Before I start replacing .exe files and pick the wrong method — I was hoping someone with more experience has a good link or some wise advice.
