You know what I don't get; if you're wanting to do a bit of harmless trolling by dishing out a huge checklist of things coming months down the line that people would love en masse form many different fanbases, why include a detail that's only going to completely discredit that entire list mere days after posting? I mean, why not leak something that's going to be announced in just a few days, THEN after "proving your credibility", proceed to add a bunch of "things to come" people could get mistakenly hyped for?

Packaging techno in GTAO so crudely kind of reminds me of the feeling, as a kid, of getting some bizarre and completely useless little plastic 'free gift' in a box of cornflakes. Bemused and disappointed, you just put it to one side and focus on the reason why you're sitting at the breakfast table in the first place.

Well I can tell you why.

Both lack interaction. There is exactly 2 things you can do.

1. Dance.

2. Get sh*tfaced at the bar.

 

Granted unlike in the nightclub you can actually dance with another person and cayo perico allows you to take a swim (in a 10 meter zone). But thats it.

They could have done so much more, especially with cayo perico. I mean you cant even explore the island and the small party area is practicly an interior.

The whole part between airport and the checkpoint could have been turned into a party area.  Go kart track, "party village" where you could spawn, boat races, cross country atv races (without the titanium shrubbery), treasure diving minigame, the list is endless.

 

Yeah the pandemic might have had some influence but it looks like nothing like this was even considered.

I guess it'll be snow (with blinding snow-fog) on Cayo Perico too, which Rockstar will team up with releasing the Panther Statue for that one day. Naturally the guards' vision won't be affected by the conditions.

I suppose a lot of GTAO players are kids with somewhat of wannabe-gangster attitude, don't they usually listen to rap or hiphop? I know the devs are Brits but the radio has become way too European (I like Still Slipping though), I'm missing contemporary hispanic music, like Reggaeton, would fit the setting much better than some Berlin techno.

I suspect that the likes of Keinemusik are in the game because they were cheap - a no licensing deal for exposure type thing. If this hadn't been available R* would have either had to pay licensing fees or hire someone to create original music.

 

The weird bit was Dr Dre's cameo, where the that came from is anyones guess.

 

With regarsd to E&E info, like a DLC I still think we're 3+ months away..

Personally im thinking they did that little scene to 'tease' Dr Dre being part of the next set of music additions, if that's in a club (finally music in clubs of a different genre? yes please!) or on the radio is still anybody's guess. I'm kind of expecting him to get a bigger role either next DLC (if we still get one) or at the actual E&E release.

 

Simply put, theres no way in hell R* would 'flex' with an artist who's a lot more famous then anybody they've added so far, only to have it be nothing more then a 10-15 second cutscene, its safe to assume we will see him again.

Their only attempt to appeal to the "wannabe-gangster kids" music genre was with LS Blonded and it still didn't appeal that much seeing that the music on there wasn't really "Trap" music.

 

Also the hell is wrong with their music curator, like besides the load of EDM that 89% of the playerbase doesn't care about, who the f*ck puts Connie Francis in the same station as LL Cool J on the same station about "obscure" and unknown alt-rock music with the The Velvet Underground and Joy Division (very unknown, nobody knows about them!!!!) mixed in with some random bullsh*t that doesn't belong in that station whatsoever.

I wont be, if nothing happens thats fine too, but really, i simply dont believe that they would add an artist of his size just for a simple few second long cameo and nothing else, it just makes that much more sense for it to be a set-up for something in a future dlc. Why would they even go trough the trouble of adding him otherwise? they could've just made it so he can be heard on a phone-call or whatever, save a load of money, but no, they added his appearance and everything. (please understand that there will have been some serious money involved for simply using his appearance, surely not worth it for a single short moment in a cutscene)

My take is that they've been testing "adding artists" with the previous folks that were (with all due respect) a bunch cheaper, the result of that is that most people liked the additions (opinions will vary but most people like at least one of the afterhours/musiclocker djs) and a bunch of players 'returned' for a while to see these new additions, so adding artists led to players being active and maybe buying some shark cards, thats a win for R*/T2, now for next DLC or E&E they will likely want to see what happens if they add a big name, does that bring back a lot more former players? (it likely will) and what about completely new players?

Long story short, even with GTA:O's long standing success they are always looking at ways to get more (active) players, giving a big artist a podium would have that effect, because adding small artists did too.

Im sorry but thats just you projecting your own tastes on the entire playerbase, a lot more people enjoy some of it, because EDM is a massively large genre with near endless subgenres, and so far R* have done a decent job of bringing us different types of EDM.

So why bother to put a cameo in now and then go find other music to add to the same update ? doesn't make much sense, you could create a whole narrative/hype by having him (or some other "name") coming to the island, have a new mission to go collect him or whatever. As it is the narrative is already that he's going to the island to play at the beach party - not much you can really do with that.

Either it had to do with the whole Covid-19 situation (less ppl working on site etc) and/or with Dr Dre being busy with some other project, or (most likely of the 3 imo) its literally meant as a tease for future DLC/E&E. I mean here we are discussing it right? there are plenty of people that want to know what's up with this, and if we will or wont be seeing him again, so bottom-line this is already 'profitable' for R* (it also got media attention) and if they continue on it (the 'new kind of music at clubs etc' that a bunch of people are asking for) that surely will get a lot of attention too, from both the players and more media. There's a dedicated marketing team working at R* too you know, the short cameo might very well be there to 'create hype' for whatever comes next.

Have we discussed the possibility of a Cayo Perico pt2 yet btw? i feel like its very likely, because we dont enter certain parts of the compound, and there's elevators, and where exactly is El Rubio during our visit? because he is in the compound, so there's likely a section underground that has not been added yet, have any dataminers found any unused areas in/below the compound? (like what happened with casino?)

I wonder if the next DLC is some sort of part 2 to the Cayo Perico, like suicidal_banana said, Dre appearing for a few secs is weird af, he comes outta nowhere and also quickly vanishes, perhaps he's one of the island's next set of attractions.

 

Honestly, i would like to see a small saga of the Cayo Perico (Pavel could finally tell his stories in full lol).

I would say that’s true but they added a LOT of licensed music in that update outside of the keinmusik tracks, so I doubt they did it to pinch pennies.

I hope they follow the way they did with Casino and make Cayo part 2. Either that or whatever they salvaged from C&C, if it was ever a thing. But, given that the trial started a few hours ago and the MSM are going to use it to sow as much division and tension in society as they can, as is their remit and only reason to exist, I can't see anything changing in terms of the reasons it got pulled in the first place, if indeed any of that was true, and can only see more reasons for it to go in the bin, again was any of that true.

 

If any of it was true, they should have squeezed it out in between the inital riots and the trail, it's not like there wasn't long enough.

And stuff like that has been happening for even longer than the preacher fiasco last year, though that was problably the biggest instance. It seems like, whenever there's long info droughts and not much activity, fake leaks or cryptic  messages start popping up to get people's hopes up, and eyes from various news sites and youtubers to report on it. Then, when nothing happens, they just blame people here for making a big deal out of something they obviously wanted a big deal out of to get traction.

It pretty much comes down to  "Oh, well it's your own fault for getting your hopes up and derailing this thread. We didn't mean anything by that cryptic meaningless post that has nothing to do with this thread unless it was a hint"
