Captain Kyra
Just came back to RDO after a few months away and been playing shootouts for a few hours. Have revolvers been nerfed? Even dual-wielding now they seem absolutely useless even with Gunslingers Choice. Just getting one-shotted at shorter ranges by shotguns every time even when I get the drop on them. If so, how typical of Rockstar to take the most iconic and important weapon of the Wild West and make it completely obsolete in their Wild West game. May work better for you there.

Yes but I'm talking about PvP. Dual wielding revolvers with Gunslingers choice used to be effect at short range. Now it doesn't seem to work at all. Always start with my two Navy's (all extra added to them) - because I do like the look, and the sound, but it's actually a fact, that every time I start with the revolvers, after a short amount of time, I am shifting to shotgun .. I don't play PvP, so can only talk about NPC's - but it takes almost 4 to 6 revolver shots to kill a NPC (unless it's a headshot) but the shotgun kills with often one, and always with two shots .. Did once engage in a PvP (not me that started it) and had the Navy's drawn - emptied both guns at close range in to the other online player - and yes, he survived (and got me with an explosive arrow) .. Revolvers don't work without the PIB card (my opinion) You need to get headshots, or they are quite useless (for me) .. But I'm not very good at PvP, so maybe I'm wrong .. GrungeNinja
My main weapons are a Lemat and a Semiauto Pistol without GC. They perform fine against the rest excluding Carcano and Rolling Block. The problems you are experiencing are both: Rust for being away from the game, (it really makes a difference the constant daily practice) and the main one, PiB, that you need to counter with SB, or just be quicker using Pib against your opponents. When I play missions using only one revolver and focusing on head shots, they die one shot. Didn't use any ability cards that add extra power to the shot either. Headshots are always one shot kill but in pvp "Never whitout one" and "Slow & steady" can protect you against that! aaronBLUEeyes
fuzzyballs01
don't bring revolvers for PvP, bro, I only use them in PvE if you wanna dual wield, get the pistols, they have a way higher fire rate and accuracy, that means 9/10 times you fire you hit a headshot, and you can always resupply between shootouts and I'm talking about free aiming with a mouse, dunno about console these days though, all you see is explosive ammo and rolling block rifles in PvP, if Rockstar just blocked the use of explosive ammo and scoped weaponry, PvP would be a LOT better Nerfgoth, GrungeNinja, ShadyDoge and 3 others
Rockstarsucks33
I never use revolvers because the volcanic pistols make them obsolete. Dual volcanics with gunslinger are 2 shot kills and I'm usually head shotting every npc anyway because of their ridiculous accuracy. The volcanics are basically like deagles, if you fire them steadily the bloom is very small and because of the high damage they're basically like having dual bolt action rifles....Like those above said^ pvp I use semi auto pistols with gunslinger and winning streak. But really, you have no chance using revolvers, volcanics or semi pistols in any pvp, shotgun will always win. If you like revolvers, definitely try the volcanic pistols. Express ammo in one, split points in the other You'll say goodbye to your navy revolvers forever ShadyDoge

There must be a good reason for that. So I'd guess that revolvers are useless for PvP. ventogt

You have no choice but fire them 'steadily'-- they're so slow to operate that the reticule bloom will have collapsed fully by the time you're ready to take the next shot. Rockstarsucks33
Unfortunately Rockstar botched the revolver and pistol stats so the volcanic makes all revolvers and other pistols obsolete against npcs. The balance would actually be better if the volcanic pistol wasn't in game. Revolvers should do more damage but are slower and less accurate; pistols should be quicker and more accurate but need more bullets to kill, it's pretty simple. The volcanic doesn't fit either category. Its major damage output, accuracy and range negate the need for "rapid fire." It takes 2 shots to kill an npc where revolvers take 4...And on consoles they're pretty much auto headshots on npcs....just lock on, flick the stick up slightly as you shoot. It's a shame the poor revolvers are pretty much useless if you're actually trying to kill efficiently. I prefer the style of the revolvers and the whole wild west feel part about them, but unfortunately they are just not good weapons in this game. RyuNova
I mean this with no disrespect but are you seriously saying that Shotgun > Revolvers are shorter range surprises you?
aaronBLUEeyes
When I go to PvP matches, always run Never Without One to mitigate headshot kills and either stack that with Slow and Steady or Slippery Bastard. I use a single LeMatt revolver and typically take down targets with 3 shots, and often 1 shot when pin-switched to shotgun. I try to fan my revolver when it makes since to as well, which is why I don’t dual wield.

Absolutely not. I'm just saying revolvers are useless. If you're close enough for shotgun range, a shotgun is always better.
Dark Spark
Well, of course the Navy can't cut it when it comes to damage. They picked the wrong revolver to include in the game:
aaronBLUEeyes
If I’m correct the left is the Colt Dragoon and the right is a Colt Walker, and the reason behind designing the smaller variant was because the round the Walker’s were chambered in were notoriously known for exploding on the battlefield because they had too much power. Dark Spark
The one on the right is the Dragoon (indeed the non-explodey one). The gun to the left is a Navy Revolver, but finished out with a round barrel (because I don't like the octagonal barrel of a traditional Navy). Our characters' GOAT six-shooter is a .36 caliber belt gun with zero kick and a cylinder the size of a baby's fist. PS: A Walker and Dragoon have the same frame but the Walker's has a much longer barrel and cylinder... PPS: ... just like this: Navy Revolver to the left, a Walker to the right. aaronBLUEeyes
I use the LeMat but have seen friends carrying their Navy Revolvers —and their Navy’s, at least to me, look more like the Dragoon’s size.
Dark Spark
The Navys in game do look bigger than real life. But the Dragoon didn't have an octagonal barrel though, so I can't pretend to myself that my character is carrying some sort of one-off. (I dislike polygonal barrels as a whole, which is the exact reason I bought that replica Leech & Rigdon Navy instead, so it'd match the Dragoon)
