adding Liberty City to online through GTA4 remaster

R* could have Released a "GTA IV Definitive Edition" remaster on the ps4/xbox one/pc and used it to open Liberty city to GTA online.

running on a more recent version of the RAGE engine. Making Liberty City shine in better HD.

Four games in one:

-GTA IV base game

-Lost and Dammed

-Ballad of Gay Tony

-GTA Online Multiplayer.

maybe rob the bank again, this time with your friends.

they could have released a DLC "A Tale of Two cities" that takes place in both cities. players would have to own both GTA5 and GTA4R to complete everything.

the GTAO fans would be persuaded into buying the GTA4 remaster this way. Would have been easy money for R*.

ideas? comments? suggestions

Who says that Liberty City couldn't be a location used for GTA Online anyway, with or without a IV remaster?

Then they'd have to import everything they added to Online to the LC map (businesses, clubs, etc.) unless it's just a kind of freeroam/PVP map which in that case would get boring after a while and eventually lose interest, if there's nothing to do in Liberty City then what's the point, Casuals who just don't care about GTA 4 would have no reason to get such expansion and the people who would probably be interested in it would buy it but then lose interest because you got nothing to do in there (besides RP, snapmatics and stuff like that)

"If there's nothing to do there then what's the point".

Funny, I feel the same way about Cayo Perico not being freer-roam compatible. Even I moaned about it not being possible to visit in FR with other friends etc, but then I took a step back and thought "wouldn't this only be useful for the explorers - who'd get bored after 2 hours - or the PvPers?"

Other locations are likely coming to GTA Online, it's really just a matter of where and when.

I think that at one point we all bitched about the same thing, it wasn't until the update actually launched that some if not most of us realised that the island is basically useless (except for the heist obviously).

True. Ray tracing could fix most of interior lighting issues with some garages. The Office garage lightining sucks. You cant even see the chrome and colors properly.

Spoiler

I imagine GTA IV Definitive Edition more of a filler game between V and VI. VI should have been released years ago. 2016 or 2017

Agreed, but we all know as soon as the expanded version arrives on ps5 and whatever the new xbox is called all the idiots will rush out and get it meaning we'll have to wait even longer for the next game because gtav is still making the lazy greed mongers lots of cash.

I don't want any remasters of old games at all if it delays gtaVI,  I want new story, new characters and most importantly a new sandbox to play in using current tech.

Well Remasters are usually filler. You're asking for much more than that

newest version of RAGE

Do we really need this? Because I feel like ever since GTA4 we've been going backwards with RAGE and even "old" GTA games are perfectly playable and smooth for titles that came more than a decade ago. RDR2 with all its beauty is sometimes annoying. If anything I'm suprised with how playable V is compared to TPS of the time and even today.

I'm not counting size or graphics since those are restricted to the hardware itself and not the engine (I believe)

Perhaps the best such way would be though the first DLC released for the standalone versions of GTA Online, probably named "Back to Liberty".

I think the best way to introduce Liberty City would be like this. Treat it kind of like Cayo Perico but as a new freemode location. You can fly between the two (or use the yacht, give that sucker a purpose) but you have no access to your LS vehicles. You’d still have your guns and money but you’d have to buy new properties and vehicles. It could be used as a sort of soft reset for people who have been playing for 7 years. New things to buy without starting over at zero.

LC would easily provide for new race and death match maps, new contacts and series of missions to go with them and plenty of new heist locations.

I'm going to speak about controls because I feel like this is the most impactful thing for pure enjoyable gameplay for me:

As someone who has played all GTA games as well as RDR & RDR 2, I can say that RDR2 absolutely blows all other games out of the water as far as controls go. The controls in GTA5/Online are very much dated and clunky in comparison to RDR2. The way the character moves in each game, as well as the cover system, the responsiveness of the actions you perform, and everything in between is leaps and bounds improved in RDO over GTAO.

There's nothing I'd want more from the upcoming GTAO remaster than tighter, more responsive controls and inputs.

With all of that said, however, even RDR2 needs some improvement. It's not perfect by any means, but it is their best foray so far. The cover system is good but not flawless, the gunplay is much nicer though.

Captain Yamamoto

id like to see if they could fit it in one space, TBH.

but just imagine the trailer. an old contact (like Lester or smth) calls saying he needs help with a new job far away.

then all it shows is you pull up a car as the camera pans the LC cityscape and the OG GTAIV theme starts playing.

f*ck yea

would be cool if there is some mission where you have to board a plane to an unknown location. And then you are dropped out and land somewhere. And then you figure out later its liberty city.

Take what you will from that interview with Strauss, he was pretty openly salivating over the disparity between current GTA brand awareness/success and the monetisation of the back catalogue.

I think first Online goes standalone and then things get interesting.

While i'd love to see LC back, it will be needed to filled up with content and the streets aren't made for much speeding due to traffic and lack of straight lines.

Also, old activities will be missed.

This has been my personal theory as well. Remaster 3, VC, SA, and 4 as an excuse to update the maps, then port the maps into online. Then we could use the airport to fast travel between them and have different businesses in each city. The trick would be to keep the game file size from growing too big. Next gen consoles only have like 500 gb hard drives. A game that takes up 200 gb would be a hard sell.
