Create a Radio Station for the Next GTA

Gee. I hope my idea counts, i would imagine a more versatile radio. Say you're connected to the internet or rockstar social. Then the Playlist would update regularly. Every track is new and changing

An idea like that was on page 1 I think.

Thatll actually be pretty dope. It would be kinda like the audio player in Saints Row 1 but with animations of your character putting on headphones/earpieces.

True. I mean I'm sure there is a running gag that at day and age no walk man has been invented?

So, I'm working on a new Grand Theft Auto concept thread with a decidedly retro-futuristic approach, taking heavy inspiration from a nostalgic version of the 1980's and 1990's that never truly was and the aesthetics of Vaporwave, old-school video gaming, classic anime, and mall culture.

The concept is called Grand Theft Auto: Neon Funeral

This is not the GTA for the "realistic steak" crowd that want another rehash of GTA IV.

No, it is not intended as a canon component of either the HD or 3D settings, but is instead set in the "4D Universe" or alternately, the "VHS Universe"

But the reason I mention this is because I want the concept thread to have at least one radio station dedicated to Vaporwave and Mallsoft music, but these are genres that I am still very new to (yes, I know I am late to the party) and I am hoping someone more familiar can compile a playlist for these stations.

So, any Vaporwave or Mallsoft fans here who can help me out?

@Big Fat Paulie, My station concepts KMOG and KCTY, both on page 2, have some of that sort of thing, though nothing in the particular vaporwave vein. More general retrowave and actual 1980s post-disco/pop, which could still fit, I think. Artists like Com Truise, Miami Nights 1984, Jensen Sportag, Whitewoods, Carpenter Brut, and Vektroid all have a good selection of retrowave stuff, and there's plenty of period pieces that work to the same style (especially if you find the originals through vaporwave).

For vaporwave specifically, I'm probably as lost as you are, but a friend of mine was really into it for a while and shared some good repositories. This Soundcloud set and its sibling sets are a treasure trove, and there's this YouTube playlist of videos which compare the original songs to their vaporwave descendants. You might have a hard time really finding some of the stuff, anymore, since vaporwave inherently straddles the copyright line, but there's plenty still out there. Hope this helps.

It would be pretty awesome if Rockstar could implement the ability for your characters to call in requests to the DJs. I believe this can partially mitigate the issue of the same few songs constantly playing on the radio like in GTA V, and boost the interaction between players and the radio.

Anyway, here's a rework of V-Rock unlike the one in page 3, with less 80s hair metal and more 90s-ish, modern alternative metal, post-hardcore and thrash tracks.

V-ROCK

"Same dirty logo since '83! You're on the home of the vulture!"

Genres: Thrash, Death Metal, Hardcore Punk, Heavy Metal, Post-hardcore, Noise Rock, Grunge, Industrial Metal, Alternative Metal, Extreme Metal, Funk Metal

I really would love if they could incorporate Spotify within the game.

Forza Horizon did something similar, so it shouldn't be impossible in the slightest.

Would love to listen to my mixtape with over 6000 songs 😎🤠

I'm going to build off my previous concept for a seasonal-themed radio station in GTA but instead of doing a full radio station with a rotating playlist, I figured it'd be better if you took one of the more niche stations in a concept (think MSX in GTA III or the "ethnic" stations like Vladivostok FM, Radio Del Mundo, or Espantoso) and at a certain point in the game, they would play a different seasonal playlist for a while.

Several radio stations already do this in real life when they play Christmas music for the month of December.

I figured I'd do something similar with certain seasonal playlists. I'm definitely doing two playlists, one for Christmas and one for Halloween. I'll start off with my Halloween choices.

Halloween Playlist

DJ: Elvira, Mistress of the Night

Bobby Boris Pickett-The Monster Mash (1962)

Michael Jackson-Thriller (1982)

Rob Zombie-Dragula (1998)

Ministry-Everyday Is Halloween (1984)

Warren Zevon-Werewolves of London (1978)

Dave Edmunds-Creature From The Black Lagoon (1979)

Creedence Clearwater Revival-Bad Moon Rising (1969)

Ray Parker Jr.-Ghostbusters (1984)

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince-A Nightmare on My Street (1988)

Herbert Chappell-The Gonk (1978)

The Citizens of Halloween-This Is Halloween (1993)

Alice Cooper-The Man Behind The Mask (1986)

Dokken-Dream Warriors (1987)

Classics IV-Spooky (1967)

King Harvest-Dancing In The Moonlight (1973)

Mark Snow-The X-Files Theme (1993)

Meat Loaf-Hot Patootie/Bless My Soul (1975)

Weird Al Yankovic-Nature Trail To Hell (1984)

TGG 199.6 (a station to be featured in my dream GTA VI game)

Host: someone born in the mid 90s.

Genre: rock, dance, pop, electronica, pretty much any song that meets our strict, but fair criteria.

Description: A radio station playing the best songs from the "golden era" of music, from 2000 to 2012, and anything before or afterward is irrelevant and not worth a place here.

Even our most sworn enemy, pop music, gets a free pass for the sake of old times. And they were pretty decent back then compared to the old and new crap we have to deal with.

The host picked these songs from his own personal playlist, which keeps him on the go, either in the gym, or at work.

Franz Ferdinand - Michael

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out

Kasabian - Club Foot

Paul Oakenfold - Ready Steady Go

Moby - Lift Me Up

Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby

Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl

Green Day - American Idiot

Calvin Harris - Feel So Close

Ronan Keating - Lovin' Each Day

Kings of Leon - Sex On Fire

Span - Baby's Come Back

Can't Stop - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
