What weapons to lock on from a distance?

I always mind my own business in GTAO and most of the times when i do any mission involving in getting supplies i have a some people on my case to blow up the vehicle.

 

My recent encounter was delivering a van to my gun bunker.....i see an Oppressor II hovering around attempting to blow up the van, so stopped, got out of the van and tried to kill him but within a second or two of getting out of the van he killed me....i respawn and now were at a distance but again he manages to kill me however i couldnt even see where he was neither was his tag name showing up (pointing towards him according to my map).

 

Is there a way or weapon i need to lock onto these type of players, am i missing something, i thought about using a sniper but think its too slow? Any ideas?

I completely forgot about solo sessions. I assume gun stock, nightclub stock value increases as the same amount as if i was in a public session (CEO or MC)?

Glitch? I have a sniper with a thermal scope..... Thought that was normal. Btw I'm playing on an Xbox so I assume glitches aren't that easy to take advantage of?

its quite easy, it been known for years now, after certain distance you can snipe anyone though walls, buildings, whatever using a sniper rifle with thermal scope.

 

look it up on youtube "gtao thermal scope glitch"

 

one of countless broken features that have never been fixed .

No... the Heavy Sniper (Mk II) is the best weapon to use on ground against other players at a distance. That's why all the (wannabe) tryhards use it. If one player has BST and the other doesn't, it's even a one-shot kill -- even at extreme ranges, so I'm not sure you actually got killed with the thermal glitch.
