My Experience with GTA and why i don't really want to play it (Please Read)

Ever since i got GTA5 i have been driving around most of the time when i was playing in Singleplayer and when i got online the thing that appealed to me most was Races and Stunt Races but to be honest for the short amount of time that iv'e had GTA5 (5 Months) every single time i played it i eventually became increasingly upset with it because it wasn't what i had expected after all the years i waited to get it.

I would like to say that im not whining or complaining im just simply saying exactly how i feel whenever i play this game.

The thing that annoyed me most as i started to play it more and more was the AI traffic, not going to go too much into it but i think everyone knows what im talking about, you know? the uneccessary lane changes at low and high speeds, and the traffic who bump you from behind. Why on earth Rockstar thought it would be good idea to have AI programmed to hit you i don't know but it makes me wonder what the reasons behind it is. Another thing is that the physics in GTA 5 could be much better because a recurring theme for all the vehicles is that they have too much wheelspin when accelerating, and always seem to lose control and spin out at high speed. there are a many good cars in GTA 5 and GTA O but my experience with some of them was too frustrating and the more i played the more i started to despise it.

So with the singleplayer things out the way i have had GTA O for some time now after getting it in January, the experience i had with GTA Online at first was good, on my first day i wasn't killed that often by other players and i even had a little ride on a dirtbike as i followed another player who thankfully seemed friendly because he didn't kill me. So i will say at the beginning it was a little better than my expirience of it now. In GTA O almost all the times i try and do a race something happens which causes me to lose or fly off the track and its usually because of other bad drivers or the other thing which is catchup, im ok with slipstream because i've played a lot of NFS games in my lifetime but the catchup thing is the worst especially when i try my hardest to move up positions and some guy with less skill who doesn't know how to drive somehow manages to spin me out and pass me leaving me in 10 or 13th place when i was at 6 or 7 at the start (so frustrating).

What im trying to say is i've tried and tried and tried my hardest to try and enjoy GTA and GTA Online despite all the things that annoyed me like the traffic etc. but the more and more i play this game the more i want to smash or break something (literally). I think GTA 5 could have been a great game but honestly when you have so many bad racers, punitive game design and greed it will eventually drive people away sooner or later. As much as i like the bikes and cars and even now as i type i wish i could enjoy the game more but how everything is set up with the whole design of the game including the ridiculous prices like 1Mil for a little Honda Civic (Dinka Sugoi) which in real life would cost between 30-40K, but im not here to talk about the economy it is bad and someone with clear eyes can see it but all in all this game could be much better and there are many bad game design choices for a game that is supposed to be the best.

One last thing i want to say that i have been wanting to say for a long time is "to all the gta community who have stuck with gta5 even though rockstar have failed to fix their game in the most crucial areas (glitches/bugs) and are ever increasing the games economy to make everything expensive, i ask you one question "Why do you put up with it"

People got angry at Cyberpunk but just remember how Rockstar has managed GTA Online and not to mention how they always patch money glitches but not fixing the game. before people moan about a game coming out in a bad state like Cyberpunk they should remember that the CD Project Red have done more to try and save their game than rockstar has done to fix gta! and its true, there's rife glitches, exploits, bugs and hackers you name it and still years later the same problems are still in gta still unfixed.

Edit: please don't swear at me or call me names because i mentioned cyberpunk, i have no intention to cause trouble or arguments in the gta community, i only mentioned it to make a comparison between Rockstar's effort to fix their game and CD Project Red's effort to fix their game.

I don't want to have an argument just a serious talk with the community, thanks you for understanding.

Thanks for reading.

Join a racing crew instead of trying to battle with randoms.

I presume that you are talking about regular and stunt races? I played Stunt Races almost exclusively from when Cunning Stunts launched in the summer of 2016, all the way up to the launch of the Open Wheel Races in January of 2020. I have a rough 50/50 split of wins and losses, about 6,000 of each.

Most of those losses, and my trips to Bad Sport Lobbies are from backing out of the toxic races. It's just a feature of the game and the nature of the players.

If you want your blood pressure tested, don't play the Open Wheel races. They can be great, but most players simply cannot do them, and so they are either just rolling obstacles, or deliberate crash monkeys. Worse in these races as the car damage affects its performance. You can almost guarantee a 150mph multi-car pile up at the first corner of each race, so you need about 20% skill, 80% luck to do okay in them.

Yes, the game is in a horrible state right now, but it seems even Rockstar have realized it with the release of the Cayo Perico heist.

You can do the entirety of Cayo Perico by yourself, in invite-only sessions.

I know 2.2 million for the Kosatka is hard to save up, but it is doable. Just play contact missions (and VIP work after you have saved 50k) or get someone to host the Diamond Casino / Cayo Perico heist for you.

Don't invest in CEO/MC businesses as a new player, you'll only get griefed while selling them, unless you know how to make empty public sessions.

But you'll probably still retire most of those businesses after getting the Kosatka (or you'll "invest" more than 2.2M to make them profitable, at which point, you should have bought the Kosatka first)

As for racing, I haven't done a single one after I bought my first business, and I own them all.

The more races I did, the more I hated them. It is not about being a good racer, it's about avoiding bad drivers and exploiting the ketchup catchup and slipstream mechanics, no thanks.

Nowadays I only play GTA online for the heists. I collect cars, but don't race them. I do my racing in plenty of other games that have better racing and better drivers.

Of course you don't want to play, can't blame you. GTA is a terrible racing game, especially when randoms are involved. It isn't much better in a racing crew either, at least in the beginning. Eventually you will learn how to cheat and abuse the game mechanics like all of the "best" racers in the crews do. After that wins just come down to which player can hit the most curbs perfectly.

I learned a l lot from the crew (non racing) I was in because they didn't take it serious enough to perfect the cheats but they were still hard as hell to get wins against. Once I learned how randoms operate and started hosting my own races the race wins started to pile up. I stopped last year though once boredom set in from the same few tracks on a constant rotation.

Races (along with many other things in this game) are not to be taken too seriously. I've got a very good race record, but it's only because I host pretty much every race I participate in so I can put the settings how I like.

As for GTA 5 it's not meant be taken seriously. It's a video game that's meant to be fun, if you're not having fun don't play it.

mmm while annoying, it really recreates the crazy experience that is driving in a big busy city.

i have asked myself this same question a lot of times over the years and i still have no answer. at the end of the day, broken as it is, theres no other game out there like gta. i have been a fan of the franchise for some 23 years, at this point i know im in a love/hate relationship but like i said before, theres nothing out there like gta 🤷🏼‍♂️

i think part of the issue with CP is that it was overhyped by the fans and the developers themselves, R* marketing is so smooth, they dont overhype stuff, us fans do that part 😂 to be honest i had that conversation with my brother about how people are bitching about the poor state CP was released or how other developers get "destroyed" by their fan when they add stuff like microtransactions other type of monetization but R* get a free pass, why that happen? i dont know, but it is like it is.

overall i kinda get you, it can be quite hard to get the hang of the game, specially this late, as much as i love it, this game is a honeypot designed to lure new users in as they are playing catch up and are more likely to buy cashcards, hence the 1 million for a honda civic as you mentioned.

Contact racing can be a pita in this game and that's why I prefer non contact races

Sadly, Non Contact Races quickly turn into curb (or kerb) boosting nonsense.

Sure, there isn't anything game breaking with curb boosting itself, but it just looks so silly I can't take it seriously.

It's pretty much a pick your poison kind of game.

That's also a good argument, when it comes to R* created stunt races I'm one of those curb boosting more or less all the chances I get.

Every Friday a friend of mine host a pl with 8-10 player created races (no tubes, jumps etc) and after a half long hiatus from racing I really can't compete with the top guys there anymore but there's not much crazy curb boosting there either, some people will of course take advantage when they can, still I don't see anyone riding every possible curb there is but earlier when doing premium races I saw it in pretty much every race, luckily most of them f*cked up more than they gained 🤣

As people above have said, non-contact races or joining a racing crew is the way to go. A normal race with randoms you can guarantee some complete tool will just smash into everyone at the start line.

IMHO though GTA V isn't a great game for racing. IV was better, there was more skill to the handling. I think it got flak because too many kids couldn't cope a lost the back end all the time, so they upped the grip massively in V. That made it all a bit more arcade-y, and frankly a bit too easy. So to compensate, they programmed the AI traffic to drive like absolute retards. Don't get me wrong, there's still a big gap between good GTA V racers and noobs, but for me it's more about learning the circuits.

GTA V Online's jewel in the crown for me is the Heists. It's what's kept me in the game, if they hadn't added new ones over the years I doubt I'd still be playing it. But I guess if you're not into PVE/Co-op type stuff, then that's not much of a factor.

I'd say this should be the important takeaway here.   GTAV does a lot of things but most of them are a bit janky and none of them are done particularly well.    I don't think developers ever intended this to be a serious driving/racing game and those mechanics were most likely designed around the average player driving as needed to complete the story and explore the map.

As OP says, inflation has really hit the GTAO economy but for the most part wages (payouts for heists) are keeping up.  Island heist is easy to do solo, easier with a friend, and should net aroud a million gtabux for about an hour to an hour and a half of work once you have an efficient strategy.  Apart from looks there's little difference among the cars so it's not like you need the whole catalog to do some races or get around town.

Lastly there definitely are dedicated racing groups in which you probably would be able to race without Little Timmy acting like a child, but as wonky as the driving mechanics are in this game, dedicated racers have very much optimized strategies and you will probably get your arse handed to you.

Really though, if you don't take any of this too seriously and find a cool group to play with GTAO is a fantastic sandbox game with a wide variety of things to do.
