Electrician topic.

I haven't found a topic for electricians yet, so feel free to share your wisdoms, post allowed pictures from work and ask your questions in here.

So, what are you doing for a living? I'm in constant search for things like this all over Germany, haunt the offices and production areas once a year or two and prevent hapless and stubborn people of killing themselves with electricity.

And this is my bagpipe of choice.

If i may ask, do you do electrical equipment checks in your countries and how?

I have no clue about electronics. Recently I let my drone battery fall asleep and can't wake it up. I know there is a method but have yet to find a really good video to show me a step by step for my specific battery.  The battery isn't the cheapest li-po (€150) so I'm tinkering with the idea of trying to fix it. What do you think? Is it relatively easy to wake up the battery? Will it be as good as before?

My only worry is my own set up at home. Having such combustible batteries at home (Li-po) and the other gazillion gadgets I need to charge at any given time. I could probably do with some of safety checks. I never leave stuff charging overnight and never when I'm not home. That's about it. However, I could store the li-po batteries more safely like in an old metal munitions box.

To be honest, i'd suggest you to refrain to experiment with lithium polymer batteries, because you can set your home ablaze with these small things.

These shouldn't be discharged to minimum, since they will "think" it's their highest capacity from then on - going "asleep".

And i'd hate to suggest you anything risky that puts you in danger.

I used to do electrical work, but I haven't for the past 5+ years. I've been thinking about getting back into it recently.

That looks like what we'd call PAT, portable appliance testing, in the UK or not? A boring part of the job, no? A lot of businesses will get that done annually, not that they really need to. That sort of testing isn't really a mainstay of an electrician's job in the UK, though a fair amount do it. Often, there are specific companies that will do just that sort of thing. When studying, it's something you touch on and hear about, but I don't believe it forms a part of the curriculum, and most (all?) students likely won't carry out one of those tests, or learn in detail about them, at college.

Hadn't seen a tester like that before; what's the keyboard for, printing labels?

Tests that we carry out the most on single-phase installations will be: checking continuity, insulation resistance, checking polarity and a test on the phase-earth loop, and disconnection time of protective devices. I'm guessing that you do those too?
