Can players split up during the heist?

Like for example, 2 players do the compound and the other 2 go around the island collecting secondary loot.

No. All team needs to gather to infiltration point to activate it. Same for leaving compound.

it would make the heist a lot more fun for teams though

start at the main dock in a longfin and drop two players off then the others head to the compound

You all have to start and end in the pre planned place, but in the middle I think you can travel where you want really

you all have to start in the pre planned location BUT as long as you are all together, you can leave swimming if you all want to.

 

case in point, i run the heist, we all get to the island, do our thing and leave the island swimming or by killing an npc that driving a boat near the compound, eventho the extraction point is set to the airfield or the main dock.

What about entering the compound do you all have to be together for that?

I believe so!

 

Was running a heist between my own accounts and had one character at the compound entry but the game would not let her go in unless the other character was there.

On the island, you can split up as much as you like, however, when you go to the compound, everyone has to use the same entry and exit, at the same time, or the game won't let you in/out of the compound.

When you are inside the compound, again, you can split up as much as you like, but you can not leave the compound without the rest of the crew.

Also, after the compound, everyone is free to split up and escape different ways.

 

So, you can not have players on the island and inside the compound at the same time, if that's what you're asking.

 

While we're at this topic, does anyone know what happens to the mission if one of the crew leaves? (not the host) Can you continue, or does it stop the mission like the old heists?

Doesn't have to be the planned entry point. You can select main gates and still take the drainage tunnel, as long as you all go in together. On my last heist, I took the Longfin, selected main gates, picked up guard clothing, and then realized the supply truck and grappling hook were on the other side of the map, so I still took drainage tunnel, no problem. I was with a crew of 3.

you sure about this?

 

the other day me and my kids were escaping the island swimming, one of my kids got distracted and ended up swimming from a different side of the island and the heist didnt end til we regrouped.

Quite sure, at least if you select escape point Docks and take 2 boats, you don't have to go the same way. Just get far enough away from the island.

Heist continues, the host gets the player who leaves cut of the take...

When?

 

I did this last week and I got disconnected so got nothing for the heist but the host still got that cut so probably a case of no consistency from R* in fixes once again, I will test this on my own accounts tonight to see

what happens!

Would also be cool if you could leave the compound by jumping into the water, and another person could wait in a boat.

Or use the grappling hook to rappell down from the balcony to a boat below

Don’t get me wrong, the heist gives the most options to free style it already, but the one change that would be is the ability of team members to enter and exit the compound independently.

 

For example, it would be great to use the alkonost and have one player bail early to disable the air defenses. Rest of the team parachute straight into the compound. First player clears loot from the hangar, and steals a plane, landing it right by the compound to pick up the other players as they exit.

or they could steal a boat from one of the docks and meet the others near the compound

the best idea would be stealing el rubio's chopper to escape but i can't see rockstar allowing that

Is it possible to blow up or malatov his chopper on the way out so he doesn't follow you?

If you choose the weapons with the sticky bombs, you can put those on the helicopter. Just wait for him to take off, and then let them explode. He will turn back right away.
