RTX 3070 FE | Underperforming in GTA Online

Hello folks,

I am here to figure out if anyone is having similar issues in regards to the relatively new gpus, specifically in this case the RTX 3070 FE (Founders Edition) underperforming in GTA 5 Online. I have reviewed benchmarks for the game through youtube and have seen multiple users being able to obtain very high fps averaging about 120-150 on "Max Settings". What these videos don't show is what version of the GPU they are using which can drastically change what the benchmarks for the game really are. In my case, my gpu when running GTA 5 Online (Especially in a full lobby) tends to only reach on average 70-80 FPS on "High Settings". I have talked to some support about the gpu related to GTA and have gotten the answer of the game being "ancient" and not optimized for the new gpus as of right now. I guess I am here to just get more clarification of possible in game settings that may be causing these issues or possibly nvidia control panel settings that may increase the performance of the game even more.

Just for more detail....
Vsync is disabled both in game and in Nvidia control panel
Nvidia control panel is set to prefer maximum performance
Fullscreen Optimizations are disabled through the game files

Of course it underperforms. The game is a horribly optimized POS that runs bad on most every system out there. Online is especially bad and a large session in the city actively doing things can bring the game to its knees. Add in the fact that mod menus (which are everywhere right now) can make things even worse, some of them cause large FPS drops. Get a few of them in the same session and everyone will be lagging like hell.

 

 

Bigger question is how the hell did you get lucky enough to score a 30 series card? lol

Bought a very nice prebuilt from a new company "BuldRedux". RTX 3070 Founders with a Ryzen 7 3800x. Being how popular the game is, I would wish they would optimize the game better :P. Maybe its a sign that GTA 6 would finally be released after almost 8 years with a better system.

Wait for the Expanded & Enhanced version of the game for any real performance changes. Up until then, they might tweak certain things but that's it.

Your low FPS has nothing to do with your GPU.

GTA V's ancient engine is simply unable to reach high framerates in full lobbies, because of how it uses the CPU.

It handles the main world thread and all other players on the main thread, and it is not properly multithreaded. Check your cpu usage per core while in a full lobby, you'll see. Total CPU usage doesn't matter for GTA V.

Only thing you can do to mitigate this, is setting Extended Distance Scaling off (advanced graphics) or find lobbies with less players.

If your GPU isn't used for 100%, just increase some details in Graphics settings. You can also increase Frame Scaling in Advanced graphics for better image quality.
