Guards Attacking For No Reason?

Recommended Posts

Lately when doing the heist guards began attacking me on sight without probable cause. Just walking by is all it takes and I am wearing a disguise so there should be no reason to react the way they do. Before anyone asks I do not stand in their cone of vision too long, they attack the very millisecond I step in their sight at all.

Its possibly caused from having a weapon out which makes no sense cause guards are suppose to have guns.

Is anyone else been experiencing this lately?

Sorry, I haven't noticed this yet, I always go in through drainage tunnel.

Does this happen inside the compound, or on the island?

In the compound, there are some special guards that will always recognize you, even with uniform.

Their cones and dots are red instead of white. You have to stay out of their cones at all times.

On the island, just put your weapons away, wear mask and keep 1.5m distance, and don't open or loot secondary stashes if a guard is nearby or you are in his cone.

If you were doing none of that, the guard outfits may have been glitched. Have you been in any public session before starting your heist?

I believe this is your issue. As far as I’m aware you can’t have weapons out in front of them.

Don't equip weapons when in guard disguise, the game clearly tells you, makes no sense though. All guards carry weapons, you don't but have a huge bag, who might be the thief then? ;)

It tells you that if disguised as a smuggler, not a guard. I can run by numerous guards with a gun out without any problems but there is specific guards in specific areas that attack regardless. I even attempted running by with nothing equipped and still got shot at for a few attempts. I only got around the issue by preemptively killing the guards that kept raising the alarm despite not having a reason to.

Before you ask its not Rubio's personal guards in the compound but regular guards outside the compound.

I've had this happen to me when I take the Velum approach and get a disguise. The Airport guards STILL remain WHITE dots on the map and will go aggro on you if you have your weapon out. I think they're supposed to become red dots after you wear the disguise (this happens normally in Main and North Dock Longfin entries) but not in the airport, so best be careful.

And sometimes guards have aggros a little bit too fast, but it's been so rare and the items it has happened I was on  my way out anyway.

I just did another finale and did the exact same approach I did last time, but this time the guards behaved as they should and paid zero attention to me as I passed. I am guessing its a glitch that triggers under certain conditions.

I always go in disguised as a smuggler in the Longfin and land at the North Dock. I prefer the North Dock cause a guard disguise is always there and I can just freely fill my bags with cocaine I scouted earlier before heading to the compound.

My guess is that its a glitch that affects guards that makes them always hostile to you regardless of what you're wearing, even when disguised as a guard as well. When switching from hostile to neutral they don't always make the switch successfully.

Have learned through multiple Velum/guard uniform entries to just be ultra-cautious. Don't stand in their cone for long, ever. Don't have a gun out while in their cone, ever. If you need to be around them for any length of time, better safe than sorry--clear them all out (I pretty much always kill all the guards at the air field when entering this way, uniformed or not, because I intend to be there long enough to change clothes, steal loot, and steal a car). And if you're going to raid a stash for loot, better make sure no guard patrols anywhere near there, because they can see (or hear?) you through the walls. Not to mention, don't kill them in front of cameras--take those out too.

In short, really all I trust the uniforms to do is let me drive across the island unimpeded, which they seem to work quite well for. But when I'm outside a vehicle, I treat it almost like an undisguised stealth mission. The Gruppe Sechs uniforms, they ain't.

Regarding the guns specifically, one could argue that since we don't seem to be using the exact same weapons as El Rubio's guards, maybe having them out tips them off.

Didn't know that, will give it a try.

There's always a reason, you just don't know what it is.

I feel like that's probably true. The game could do a much better job of communicating the reason though--on-screen text, having the guard yell something specific, or whatever. Part of the reason stealth in this game can be frustrating is that more than half the time it's unclear what the problem is, so you only really learn through repeated trial-and-error.

Also, for whatever reason, I have much more trouble doing the stealth stuff with friends than solo. It could be just that there are more of us running around all at the same time, making little mistakes, but I don't think it's just that; the mechanics honestly seem more sensitive when there are more players. Maybe that's got to do with lag or something. But I have learned to not take chances in the group that I take all the time by myself.

Lag does play a part in getting spotted with more players. Also, it is more players to make mistakes. I've literally spent hours upon hours trying to perfect certain runs with a 4-player in this heist and it's horrific. Either RNG is bad, or someone forgot to do a certain task, or we'd get spotted. Unless you're going for something specific, anything over 2-players really isn't worth it.

Mostly we do it because we have a core group of three friends (occasionally a fourth joins us) that play together, and the main thing we like to do is heists--make cash, have a laugh, and refine our tactics. We've struggled with stealth when there are 3-4 of us playing, much more on this heist than on the casino's silent and sneaky approach. But we're figuring it out. One trick that has really helped lately is, when we do the drainage tunnel entrance, two of us stay back at the beginning while the third runs solo to the office and gets the two keycards. That lets the other two access the southern loot stash without risking running back to it from elsewhere in the compound. You wouldn't think that would make much of a difference, but it really does. Three people running all over the place is just too many chances for someone to get spotted. It's also just flat-out more efficient for our elite challenge time.

This our best 4-player to date.

Is it possible that stealing some vehicles might cause an alarm (in guard disguise) plus that guards see you looting a barn storage (airfield or docks) through the wall?

The juggernaut has seen me through the floor before.

And the guard in the SE corner of the compound after you get the primary, near the store, if you pop him the guy upstairs will hear it.

There is a bugged guard at the Main Dock, by the waterway that leads past the harbor, who will spawn in late and always see through your disguise.

It's possible that this happens at other locations as well, but it's the only one I've spotted so far.

I have also noticed guards that aren't on the map and seem to spawn in late. There is one at North Dock who starts behind the 3 table storage, next to the two jeeps. I've learned to kill him before trying to loot there.

One issue I've run into is going in too quick at the beginning of the heist. When I go North Dock, I wait until the jeeps leave before I start killing. If I kill before that, then I get spotted, seemingly through walls. I've been thinking that it takes some time for the map and guards to load in and stabilize. I'm usually playing in a 4 man group, so it might be taking longer for our four games to be in sync. And we also usually use the method where one person goes first to clear the path. Having all four of us running around leads to someone tripping an alarm somehow.

Is this the one underneath the camera on the left side barn? He's been so late spawning in that I've gone in, grabbed the loot, and on my way out he's spawned in.

Possibly... he looks towards the gated loot with the switch. It may only happen using the Longfin.
