After a few grueling months of development, and having no idea what I was doing, my Packie McReary mod is finally at a state where I deemed him acceptable for upload.
Not to get sentimental on a mod post or anything--- but I just want you to know this upload comes from the heart. If you've seen me post on this forum at all you know 90% of the time it's something about me waxing poetic on this guy being like, the best character in the franchise, lmao. This was a long time coming.

 

[ EDIT 6 March 2021: VERSION 0.2 IS OUT!!! Normal map is NOW working!!! ]


WHAT IT DOES:
- Replaces Packie's Head, giving him his old GTA IV one, with a new texture that strikes the balance between his old charm and yet doesn't look out of place next to the others in GTA V (hopefully!)
- Replaces his standard jacket, as well as the formal suit jacket
- Makes it a Liberty Rock Radio tee instead of the generic gun tee underneath


INSTALLATION
- Simply open the.OIV in OpenIV and let it intall in your Mods folder


CURRENT ISSUES:
- The inside of Packie's mouth is lit really strange. This is, however, the case for the rest of the heist crew streamed peds, at least on my machine, my graphics settings, but I'll still try to figure out how to fix this.
- Packie's default jacket is a bit squirrelly, and while the suit jacket is fine, there's clipping for the other members of the Heistcrew Gunmen.
- Specular is almost perfect but he's ever so slightly too sweaty in some locations, ie the Tequi-la-la, Jimmy's room... You know, sweaty places. But still slightly too shiny.
- Been noticing some weight painting issues on his neck. Will get to that soon.
- Chef's hands are still misaligned, low priority tho


THINGS TO DO:
- Working relentlessly on an add-on ped with his original GTA IV ensemble as well as numerous other outfits, accessories, etc...

Great job! It looks way better than whatever Rockstar did to his vanilla GTAV counterpart.

Thank you!!! I was first putting him together months ago and i found it really suspect how many things aligned perfectly— they really could have been using this head initially in development as a basis for hc_gunman before they did... Whatever they did to him. I'll tell you, a lot of it is his normal map in GTA V, but also it was so upsetting to see how much they nerfed that beautiful, distinctive profile of his :(

Fixed him, somehow! Packie with his normal map in tact coming soon, smooth squishy Packie no more!
But I'm having issues with mipmap levels on his normal map giving him "artifacts" and other stranger effects from far enough distances, (eg HOLES in his head) and nothing seems to be working :(

but v0.2 will be coming soon if i can find a solution. And then I can focus my entire energy on improving weight painting & getting started on his addon ped/player model with all the clothes ive picked out and fitted for him, and then in my free time, a cutscene model.

You have no idea how much this means to me, thank you! 🥺 Things have been really hard lately and the progression of this mod is like... All I have going for me, and other people liking it is an added bonus.
I'm currently working on the addon ped/player model version of Packie. I actually gave him eyelashes a long time ago, to match all the other story essential characters in GTA V (which makes me a little >:((( about the fact that hc_gunman has to go without them)

I spent all day yesterday (Packie's unofficial 42nd birthday) making a Frank asset shrimpy enough to almost fit Packie proportionally, and now I'm going to use it as reference for the rest of the uppr assets i make for him.

 

Left: Frank's uppr_016 made to fit Packie (it's rough looking rn i know lmao i need to finalize it a little more before i normalize all of it)

Right: a Henley I stole from a ped to give to Packie foreeeever ago, now I'm going to get rid of those solid color playdough arms and replace them with the new ones.

And just for fun, here's an ooold screenshot of the other ped clothes I dressed him up in & a GTA Online hair I converted for him solely for sh*ts and giggles:

And of COURSE I'm converting the old GTA IV outfits for Packie, I'm starting over from my old attempt though, and trying to perfectly balance keeping the integrity of the original mesh but editing it just enough so it doesn't look so weird and disproportionate next to everybody else-- which is HARD, with how much SHORTER Packie is (his cutscene model, rather) in GTA IV compared to GTA V.

We've got Packie's GTA IV ensemble ready for the addon ped!!! I gotta get more assets ready for him (like the basic heist outfits, firecrew, suit, scuba, sexy spy, etc...) and finish the basics of the cutscene face stuff before I release the first build of it.

I've done everything but the lips & some of the eyelid stuff. Weight painting his lips the first time around was miserable already, so I'm not looking forward to this but I'm glad that I'll be done soon.

 

I've given him more clothes, and while I won't be spoiling too much, in the meantime,

 

I decided to let other people have part in the process of deciding what other kinds of clothes he should have on top of the basic stuff already present in the vanilla game.

 

Like, you wanna make sure some... Cool jacket or whatever from GTA Online gets included??? Fill out the form! Don't you love forms??? And don't worry, you can submit multiple responses. But trust me, I really, really need the community input because I'm really prone to dressing everybody a bit too fruity with my sensibilities 💔 Trust me, I'm excited to get to my expanded & enhanced Tony mod after i finish the first build of addon ped Packie.

I'm disgusted with how much jewelry in GTA V is just solid color!!! I stole this necklace and edited it off of a Vagos chick, took the chain texture from Tony's various TBOGT outfits, and then found the cross pendant texture on my own.

 

I SWEAR i'm keeping SOME things a surprise for release, but i had to share this outfit as well <:)

First update to this thread in a month! LOOOONG post ahead.
 

Speaking of heads, finished Packie's head! Got him in-game. although he looks like a nightmare right now. Figured out that movesets don't change with a simple hash switching like using the Addon Peds method and the CharacterSwap mod- which is fine, as Packie in his finished state is going to be using a peds.meta anyways. Only weighting i'll need to change eventually is his center lower lip. (Or this is an effect of using a stock player_one yft as opposed to an altered one where the bone placement is fitted to his face) And fix his eyelash weighting some more.

(forgive me with how LQ these pictures are, theyre screenshots off of recorded video)

 

before i got him in-game i went through a nightmare of trying to get a yft I edited for him into the game, working, to no avail. If anybody has any idea of how i could go about with yft editing, I'm all for anybody messaging me here or on my Discord, which is, let me reiterate, Midsummer Liberty City#3345.

 

I actually let Packie sit around incomplete & unpolished as the Vaseline covered menace that he is, because in my mind, i thought, "it's an easy fix, I'll do exactly what I did with hc_gunman Packie's head and his broken tangents, I'll simply re-import him into Zmodeler3, re-export, and he's golden."

 

So I messed around, made a few renders, even got a very early first build of my Little Jacob in-game, aaand replaced Jimmy's laptop screen!

I finally get back to working on Packie himself, decide to finally fix his tangents via re-import just like with hc_gunman Packie...

 

Only for ZModeler3 to crash every time i reimport the very file i had exported with Zmodeler3 earlier.

 

You wouldn't believe how degrading it feels to be right back at square one with an issue i've fixed before, but suddenly can't for some superficial reason. It's a nightmare. I suppose I'm going to have to go back to a Packie that utilizes ped_default without a normal map until I can figure out how to get this fixed :(

I'll write a more essay-like post to talk about how i got to this point with Packie later, (as well as special extras that i made to be included!!!) for now just have some screenshots. Long story short, FIXED HIS WHOLE ISSUE HE HAS HIS NORMAL MAP WORKING ON HIS HEAD NOW YAAAY, made specular textures for his Dukes IV outfit and i downloaded that recording cutscenes for rockstar editor mod and i took... sooooo many pictures. Last crucial step really is needing a custom YFT for the first build because you dont see it in these curated screenshots (replacing franklin in these cutscenes, im sorry you know i love you frankie baby </3) but his center lower lip does go weird and his eyeballs i found out will occasionally pop out of his head at some angles, which i initially expected of course. Here you go. Wow. Yeah, no, I'm not spoilering these. You're gonna scroll through all of these, you're gonna look at him.
