Β Rerecording lines will be a damn headache and swapping out music from 2020-21, as that's probably when many of those leaked scenes were recorded ahead of testing. You can't pretend 2020/21 pop culture will be a match for 2024-25 and this is where an 80s setting is less of a risk to execute, on a protracted development timeline. Β With an '80s setting, you don't need to worry about portraying today's pop culture (2024-25), using yesterday's (2020) resources (script/recordings). This could blow up in their faces on that front, even if the game is great. Β Generic gameplay should have been the focus and then save all that time sensitive stuff (pop culture), for closer to release so that the music and cultural references are current/relevant. Β Portraying the future (2025), is a tricky ass gamble compared to portaying the past in a detailed, high quality video game. Β This is why many artists make demos as early as one or 2 years ahead, but wait until a few months before release, to produce the tracks for a new record. Some games recently have also done the same thing but to a lesser degree than movies. That might be why some people are complain about the 80s being overused. In terms of that yeah maybe it's not but overall another time setting is difficult to get right, not many of the developers lived in that time also I assume, they will have to sit and watch movies, analyze actual recordings of Miami then, interviews and all that. Accurate portrayal of past years isn't easy to get right, one scene for example out of like 60 in-game might get "too modern". But if it's rockstar I am sure they are capable with research, again not that difficult, everything about the setting is already there.
