DuncanMac
HI I'm a teacher and I'm making videos for my students during the pandemic. I'm using GTA V as a great sandbox to set the movies but removing the guns and fighting ofc for the kids. I've created my own addons (just props with new textures, using PS to edit the bump maps to dds, with OpenIV, Textures Tookit, Prop Editor etc) and have started learning C#. Have gone through tutorials for GTA scripts but I can't find any documentation on tasks. for example Task.FightAgainst. I'm not looking for ped fights, that's just the example a guy used on Youtube. These tasks are all available thru Intellisense in VS but I have no idea how to use them. I've found docs for native functions and animations but none for tasks, methods, and properties. My scripting needs are pretty small. For example I would like to make a prop, a blackboard addon (modified with text from the game's original prop) invisible by pressing a key. Another board could then change to visible to replace it. Both boards would be addons in saved map (xml) with one set to visible, the other to invisble in Menyoo by default. So by turning one on and the other off I can change the text on the boards in my movies for the students. I saw there is a IsVisible, with a set and a get. I guess I would need the set to true, but I have no idea if that's they way to do it nor the syntax. Sure this could be done in DaVinci Resolve but only if you are adding text to the frames and ofc the FOV is total crap if you do that. Can someone help me with the code? And more importantly, can someone point me to where I can find proper documentation for tasks, ideally with examples. Thanks and stay healthy John Edited January 17, 2021 by DuncanMac

That's pretty much how you would do it, or you could have one out of view (behind the camera for instance) and then swap positions. 17 hours ago, DuncanMac said: And more importantly, can someone point me to where I can find proper documentation for tasks, ideally with examples. Proper documentation... in an ideal world we'd have it but alas, it just doesn't exist. All of this is done by guesswork or trial and error. Very few people take the time to fully document the results of that trial and error, leaving everyone else to go through a similar process. As someone who spent a great deal of my time as a game developer mentoring others, I fully appreciate the importance of learning resources. It just doesn't happen in modding though and more often than not, it's a fight to even get basic information, never mind documentation... of any kind.
