This must be what Niko sees when you play GTA IV. For real this video is great though. It both looks like a video game and IRL at the same time. This is what I hope video games will be like in 2040 or something. Machines powerful enough to support near-real life sized cities with dynamic real-time mechanics and AI. One day...

CynicalMexican

I want to think Niko and Roman were watching the Euro 2008 final from their Algonquin penthouse:

I hope they will abandon all these awful vehicles they've created for Grand Theft Auto: Online, take some from Grand Theft Auto IV and create new ones - provided the game is going to be set in 2020's, of course.

Damn this is awesome. Just goes to show how well IV captured the atmosphere of the real New York, even though it's obviously not the game it really feels like it is and you can really imagine Niko there. Gave me chills watching it. And snow like that in IV would've been sick.

It annoys me in San Andreas that the prostitutes exit the vehicle the very moment you stop the car. How the fck am I supposed to navigate to a quiet place without braking or stopping even once. This doesn't happen in previous nor subsequent games but only in SA, but I haven't seen anyone mention this so I'm wondering if it's just me huh?

My position on Dwayne Forge has changed last I replayed the game.

You feel bad for him the first few times you play through the game. But after the third or fourth playthrough, he comes off more as whiny, and starts sounding like a broken record. It's hard to notice the first time because it's a total shock, but after that it feels more like he just complains about everything he can find, and blocks himself from enjoying life, all to much for a former hardcore gangsta lord.

I used to think Niko was harsh for putting him down- quote: Always the same sh*t with you. Life is tough! You have it hard! - but this playthrough has made me understand it more. I think it's possible that R* meant for him to serve as a mirror for Niko, a look on what he must sound like from the outside. Hanging out with Dwayne and realising how whiny others must find him could've been one of the things that pushed Niko to genuinely consider leaving the life of crime behind, in addition to Kate's evaluations.

Sorry Dwayne, but you're kinda moany. I get why but still, you are.

19th anniversary for Vice City today!

yesterday was San Andreas and Red Dead Redemption 2 anniversaries

Late October is full of anniversaries for Rockstar games, Rocktober

posted this elsewhere first but thought I'd post here too

Started a new playthrough of San Andreas and this time I acquired a gun before starting the first mission. So instead of cycling away from the Ballas car i just shot it till it blew up. This happened before the part where you split up with Sweet.

So then when I reached the other three the cutscene completely skipped the splitting up part and directly went to Ryder going keep up muthafcka. And Sweet came along with us rather than taking his usual route.

I was honestly surprised by this, didn't expect the game to improvise this way lol

This is the way I feel about Derrick too.

On the first couple of playthroughs it’s tempting to kill Francis because he’s such a prick, but when you start thinking about it 4th dimensionally it makes sense just to kill him since he’s so broken, washed up and an untrustworthy snitch.

With Dwayne I genuinely felt bad for killing him the first time around, but in retrospect yeah he does come across as whiny and hopeless so despite Niko’s initial hesitation to kill him when ordered by PBX I could see him doing it not because of it being personal, but simply to put him down out of his misery.

That moon changing size when you shoot it from a sniper rifle feature in the 3D era GTAs was scary to me lol perhaps more scary than some of the myths in GTA games...

Should I change the topic title to 'GTA series general chat'? Because it's basically a general chat thread and may get more traction than the present title 'GTA soapbox' but I'm not sure...

There's a weird-ass Russian mod for VC called "Moon Bang" that makes the moon grow out of control and blow up the whole game world if you snipe it too much: https://www.gtainside.com/en/vicecity/mods/134977-moon-bang/

I dont know where to ask exactly and dont want to make a topic just for this so asking here

Can I postpone doing the GTA IV final mission by putting my phone to sleep mode? And it wont break the game or cause Jacobs phone call to not arrive when I deselect sleep mode?

You're good, man. It won't cause any issues.

Why do modern GTA's feel the need to slow everything down so f*cking much for the sake of longer and more elaborate animations, to the point of adding substantial amounts of fake difficulty when you're in a rush to get away from cops? Look at how much faster you can run or get in and out of cars in Vice City vs. 4 and especially 5.

Thanks for coming to my random and totally unprompted Ted Talk.

Its the "muh realistic and cinematic" experience that Rockstar decided to use in new games..

I love the Vice City Stories sunsets, after a hard days work its the best time to be going on a drive listening to your favourite tunes on the radio, seeing the orange purple colours of the sky and that solitary ray of light shine through and then hearing your pager beep informing you that the cash from your businesses has checked in. Perfection.

The sunsets in PS2 San Andreas are a close 2nd.

I just can't unsee the fact that when the sky changes in VCS, it does so by slightly changing color every second, instead of a more subtle approach.

Ah, timecycle interpolation... It happens in every 3D-era GTA game if you look real closely, this even becomes more noticeable if you increase the game's clock multiplier (the value that defines how many milliseconds it takes for the game clock to go from one minute to another) to atleast 1.25 seconds or more.

Many prefer a full-customization option like in San Andreas and GTA V, but I think the limited wardrobe option from GTA IV is better. That way, anything we chose to wear will still be consistent with our character's personality + it doesn't create awkward situation like having a shirtless guy in a serious cutscene.

Here's hoping we can listen to the radio outside of vehicles in the next GTA. I remember reading they planned on implementing this back in GTA IV itself but canned the idea.

Saints row 1 did it back in 2006.

Wait, isn't it already possible to do that in IV? IIRC we can hear that Russian song (name slipped my mind) playing in Roman's taxi from outside during the opening cutscene of the first mission.

If you go near a vehicle you sometimes can hear the radio station its tuned in to but it's more like background noise, you can't properly listen to the radio outside a vehicle as in you can't control the stations you want to listen to and such

I kinda want to see a GTA where the protagonist gets killed halfway through or at most 3/4th of the way into the story. Would suck to lose a protagonist you would have gotten attached too but I think it would make for a very spicy story lol.

If that GTA would have multiple protagonists that would make it even easier to do. I thought in GTA V atleast one of the protagonists would get killed halfway in the story lol

Could be like alternate paths where in one choice the protag dies and in other you continue playing as him. Actually thought this was going to happen in RDR 2

I'd love for the RPG mechanics from San Andreas to come back. I get that people didn't like them and they weren't really important but that's the thing, I love that it was a side addition. I'm glad RDR2 brought back the weight gain at least.

I always kill any Vice City police officer on sight when I want to have a lil' fun lol, I didn't really like their smug-arse faces:

It was funny having gunfights with Vice police in the Malibu. I'd take them out crouching from my top floor office then turn my back for a second and several of them would spawn again shooting at me. Fun times

The police in VC had the least personality compared to the cops in GTA III and GTA SA but police chases in this game were more intense imo and I liked the challenge
