Like how so many references to SA were literally shoehorned into the Contract DLC for V, for example. It was more cringy than a nice lil callback to build the game's lore. You are right though, in the video where Jason is standing by the pool, one of the rednecks is talking about Jay Norris getting his head blown off String 1 Link to comment https://gtaforums.com/topic/967518-gta-soapbox/page/12/#findComment-1072057009 Share on other sites
Guest
Don't think VI will be relying too much to previous games. If it's in 2025, then it's 12 years after V and 17 years after IV. That decade+ timespan is too long to include many past references, many events will be irrelevant to be talked. I understand why Jay Norris is still a topic, though. He was CEO of major social network company and was killed horribly in front of public. That's a major incident. Kinda like how people still talking about 9/11 decades later. Instead of references from EFLC, V, or Online; I hope there'll be more historical references. How VC looks like back then? What the characters are doing long ago?. I want to hear people talking about the 80's drug wars. A retired drug baron talks about how he was arrested for loading coke on plane in 1981. A washed-up mobster talks about how he rose to power and had a mansion in Starfish Island back then. GTA IV is rich of things like this that opens up our imagination. GTA V? not so much unfortunately. When we know so much about Liberty City's mob scenes pre-9/11, why we barely know about the 90's riots that supposed to happen in Los Santos? Whenever I mod a game I always go for the ones that improve the game or adds new things while keeping the vanilla feel of the game, none of the dumb sh*t that I (unfortureally) keep seeing every-damn-time. With books and movies spoiling the story in advance would be even worse. I remember as a kid the first time I've ever heard of San Andreas is the final mission that I've accidentally watched on YouTube. Imagine my 9 year old self confusion when I saw Big Smoke being friendly with CJ the first time I've played the game . Probably the latter just because of how it was done, the fact that it was on live television, and the fact that banks get robbed all the time (and they’re always insured against robbery so it’s not like anyone who banks with them is affected) Hell it isn’t even established what the Union Depository even is. It operates like a bank apparently but it’s name is synonymous with Federal Reserve which is just where a bunch of gold is kept. Rockstar pls fix!?!?! Carbonox
The Caligula heist had no right to succeed the way it did, and I wouldn't hire CJ to plan something like that ever again. Really, the recurring theme throughout it is that the LVPD being chronically brain dead is the crew's only saving grace. In Architectural Espionage, CJ gets caught snooping in the planning department after his loud distraction, and has to shoot his way out of there. No matter if you lead the LVPD to the casino, no consequences arise. In Key to Her Heart, the plan is somewhat flimsy, but at the very least it's the only prep that CJ might only f*ck up at on the player's own accord, by getting Millie killed or being dumped. Even then, the keycard is successfully stolen, no biggie. Better hope no one grows suspicious of her and/or Benny's death (oh, almost forgot he kills Benny in the middle of the street in broad daylight and no one bats an eye - geez, his competence in my eyes keeps getting worse the more I look into the details.) In Dam and Blast, the cops are alerted, and he makes a pretty unrealistic dive into the drink to escape. Even if he goes unsighted, suspicion has arisen, yet no one locates the explosives until it's too late. In Cop Wheels, CJ's solution to obtain cop bikes is to... flat out take them from 4 different cops, onto a Packer that no one takes interest in despite its slowly growing load. In Up, Up and Away, he concludes that a street level jacking isn't gucci, but breaking into an army depot, shooting his way through dozens of soldiers and a pair of gunships like it's another day in the office, stealing a sky crane and lifting the Securicar home is the perfect way to go about things. I'm sure no one at the Rockshore East depot noticed the hijacking either, right? LVPD should by now know that something is up when the bikes and now an armored truck went missing, since those could be used by impostors to rob the casino. They instead do nothing. In the finale, CJ's monopoly on being a f*ck-up and overcomplicating the job is at least shattered when Zero brags to Berkley and gets the gang in trouble for it. Fair enough, it makes the mission more interesting, but what does it say about the professionalism aspect? At least the cops woke up for once. Too late to stop CJ and the wonky mission-exclusive parachute physics from stealing their chopper, though. I'd say stick to robbing 24/7's from now on, though, lightning might not strike the same place twice if you were to get funny ideas about other lucrative targets beyond the game's story. Guest
I have the same problem with GTA V. All the heists are cool, but I don't get it why nobody from the law noticing and anticipating it. I'd pass "Jewel Store Job" because it's the first robbery, but people should've identified a pattern: the Vangelico robbery involves a bugstar truck and gas, which were stolen not long before. I don't get it why nobody rises an eyebrow when a big boring machine was stolen, and a train was hijacked in the short span of time, after a series of costly stickups across LS and Blaine County. E Revere
I've been putting some thought into how well-trained each protagonist is. Niko likely wrestled with his brother and maybe the other boys in the village during his childhood. It was a normal thing to do for those from his background and generation. He also grew up in a brutal guerilla war. I'm not sure if he received actual military training but everything he had to do during the war was probably equal to one and more anyway. He also got right into working for mobs in Southeastern Europe, specifically a prominent one like Bulgarin's. So his line of work was probably still very violent during his early young adult years. Niko is probably the most powerful protagonist, in both hand-to-hand and firearm combat. Johnny K. was said to hang out around Billy with his older brother Michael when he was 12. He may have been exposed to bashing people with bats from a young age. Michael is a military man as well, though I don't know if he passed anything down to Johnny. Luis Lopez comes from a hood and we all know the type of upbringing experienced by such people. But he was a cage fighter during his youth and apparently came out of jail much stronger and victoriously. Cage fighters are no joke. Luis is definitely pretty strong. Trevor worked for the airforce so he definitely had official training as well, just as Vic Vance. Though Victor's buildup of experience was cut short, to what avail, I don't know. He seemingly worked for the national guard though. That's probably different from those who work to get deployed overseas. As for Claude, CJ, Tommy, Toni Cipriani and others. They probably didn't hone any sophisticated skills like the listed protagonists here. String
I'd like to see the next GTA have getaway driver for hire type missions. You're the designated driver for crews hitting a store, attempting a prison break etc. Escape the cops and clear out the wanted stars, make your way to the destination within the time limit etc. It could be fun if a bit repetitive. It would be like taking part in robberies/heists but you're the recruit for hire rather than the orchestrator. While you also are able to plan your own scores/robberies whether in story or out of it. Would it be a good idea for GTA to have an infamy system? I think there's a reputation system between Lucia and Jason based on how close they are or something like that or so I read somewhere, maybe they could have something like that in general? I’d also like to add Wu Zi Mu and Zero, both from SA to this list. Zero’s missions may be a pain in the arse but I think he’s quite intelligent and hilarious. He’s grown on me. Wu Zi Mu is pretty baller IMO. He’s blind yet he somehow manages to be an influential mobster and even beats CJ in a video game! Even if they aren't seen buying; cases like Johnny's Hexer, Tommy and Niko's Infernus are their own personal vehicles imo, and even cases like San Andreas where for example CJ's mom's house has this big garage, I'd like to imagine CJ isn't just having stolen vehicles in there lol, he's got his own personal vehicle but because there was no 'buying vehicle' gameplay mechanic it isn't shown in the game.
