GTA IV General Chat

Recommended Posts

GTA IV is the only singleplayer GTA to have a general chat topic in its GTAF section. 😎

Really cool to see how GTA IV has grown such a dedicated fan following, and has almost grown into the fan favorite GTA. IV has been the most favorite GTA for years in this site (I think it won best GTA in the most recent GTAF census iirc) and even on reddit and YouTube comments I see mostly high praise for the game.

I think in terms of singleplayer GTA IV is only rivalled by San Andreas in terms of how strong it's fanbase is.

Hell yeah. The sheer quality of the game shines through and stands the test of time. I'm still taken aback by how good it is when playing. It's the level of attention to detail that's so impressive I think, even if almost everything can technically be done better now because of more advanced technology that incredible amount of care and thought that went into it is still there. So many games are more technically advanced but very few have that attention to detail in the story, gameplay and mission design to rival GTA IV.

I think only the Lupisella weren't featured in any mission in the game out of the five families. Seeing as they are supposedly based in Bohan, would have been nice to have them featured too as it would have extended the rather small Bohan portion of the story. Maybe as Elizabeta grows she gets into loggerheads with the Lupisella for dominance?

It might be the only GTA along SA to have 'locked' islands covered by a wanted level so a game where there is stuff to do in locked areas and weapons to grab early.

Probably a nightmare to do stunt jumps, some send the player in the water on a failure while some require a good bike in good condition.

People speedrunning the most wanted side mission do it with the persistent 6 stars wanted level.

I did one of the most wanted ones with 6 stars in Algonquin before it was unlocked once just for fun (it was the Jimmy Kand one where he's just asleep in an apartment in the projects so it was easy), can't imagine doing them all lmao. I think it is significantly easier to survive 6 stars in IV than whatever the stars you get for being in unlocked areas in SA though since vehicles are more durable and cops not quite as relentless.

When I did my own starter save in SA, my go to vehicle was any motorbike except the Freeway, roadblocks are the only consistent threat and the hardest thing is easily the courier mission in San Fierro (has nothing to do with the Freeway given for the job) .

In GTA IV it's hell as soon as you meet a FIB team without being able to shake them off easily, I would never want to stay around and let more cops join.

Otherwise it's like having no cop, they can be avoided unlike SA.

A helicopter is without a doubt the go to vehicle to go where you want to, the cops can't do anything and their own will never catch up if you don't let them do, you have to plow through one fixed roadblock to get your first however.

The first thing I did with my (now fresh 100% ) save is picking up the happiness is...land sweater and various weapons, combat sniper rifle and rocket launcher included.

I still can't get over the diamonds subplot. Criminal how good it is. To me, without a doubt, the pinnacle of Rockstar's storytelling; pure adrenaline, fun, intrigue and action. Almost a perfect story for a crime video game genre. Great shame we'll hardly ever get anything of the kind. They've attempted it in V, but, apparently, totally misinterpreted what it was exactly that had made the diamond plotline work so well. Dan and the team got caught up in the pure storytelling aspects of it, while the sheer brilliance was in the way they utilized the medium itself in order to tell that story. It's not just a random cinema-like story that modern developers(including Rockstar) seem to indulge in, but, rather. a story that brilliant uses the possibilities of video games as a form of expression and storytelling in order to be told. It's hard to explain, but, hopefully, you get the jist.

The diamond subplot and the way it plays across the IV saga is amazing. One thing that didn't strike me as anything initially but feels kinda off when I saw it mentioned elsewhere is how the diamonds from that truck end up in the park bins, shouldn't they be in a landfill or something? Maybe I'm nitpicking though

Yeah that's the one annoying part about it. I guess the truck could've been going there for whatever reason (maybe to empty the bins) and they fell out. But he really should've found them at a dump. I think even in the news report in IV it says he found them at a dump, but they changed it in TBOGT. I guess they just wanted him to run into Luis at the end so they fudged it a bit.

I'm currently replaying TBOGT and loving the diamonds plot! It's so cool and satisfying whenever you get a mission relating to them in TLAD or TBOGT, especially when it's a different POV of the same mission in one of the other games. The puzzle pieces of the storyline fitting together from each game is just great, such good use of the three stories in the same setting format.

I don't use any mods currently...which mods do you recommend me to use?

I have two problems in GTA IV's steam version (latest data)

1- I don't use any controller but when I try to aim on the enemy's head it feels like it uses auto aim/aim assist to lock on their chest so it's hard to move the mouse and head shot the enemy!!!!

2-I get stuck on infinity loading screen when I want to play one of TBGT missions!

Help guys!!!

@Chazza354 @billiejoearmstrong8 finally finished the storyline 😁

(I'm wayne kerr btw, the guy who was struggling with the helicopter part in a revengers tragedy 😛

Probably a good place to start: https://www.definitive-edition-project.com/iv-de

Also, DXVK is a must for stable frame rates (I locked it to 60, and 50 in cutscenes for camera pan stutter). SweetFX can be used in conjunction with DXVK for SMAA (anti aliasing) but that's a bit tricky (Google can help).

Congrats! Had you seen the ending before on youtube or whatever or was it your first time seeing it? Also, now you have to do it with the other ending!

Seen it several times before hehe but when it plays after you actually pass the mission, it hits different. When you see that save file as Story Complete after you've been trying to complete it for a while, feels good heh

What I did with that heli chase is I didn't try to follow Dimitri I instead memorized his route, it's basically just a u turn path so I turned halfway before he turned and just followed the predetermined path he would take while sticking to him as close as I could. Idk if I explained properly lol it took me a few tries but I finally got to the Happiness island part and from there it wasn't that hard.

Niko is excellent in sounding anguished, those post story phone calls you can hear the emotion in his voice it sucks that Niko is like the only protagonist to not have that happy ending atleast Johnny and Vic end their starring game in respectable terms and you could just choose to ignore what comes after but though IV ending was great, why only Niko man

Haha 😂, for now I'm just gonna bask in the feeling of victory. I still didn't complete Stevie thefts, there's the most wanted and the assassination missions too but I kinda don't wanna do the assassination missions now because itll change the Story complete on the save file, but let's see! I do have a save file for One last thing incidentally so maybe will try the revenge storyline later

Excellent! Oh yeah definitely different when you do it in the game. Niko's line after the credits and then making your way home from Happiness Island alone while taking those depressing phone calls is brutal.

Most wanted and assassination missions are a lot of fun, best side missions in the game imo. I don't remember if the assassinations actually show up on the save file, they have names but they're not regular missions so they might not. I'll see if I have as save where I can check and let you know if I find out. Btw fun fact to remember if you do them, the Fixer is voiced by the same actor who voices Mikhail Faustin.

The Grunt 281

So 1 4XX XXX$ (can't remember) can get you around 300 rockets, Annihilators caught fire and crashed more often than not, they always blow up in GTA Online.

I remember being potentially one-hit point wonder at the end as I forgot about Pegorino's one henchman, Pegorino himself was hiding very badly and got lightning bolted. Super dull game victory unsurprisingly, he isn't immune to flinching at all.

Deal is really the worst choice, Niko lose both Roman & Kate but it turns out Revenge give the same pay, the death of Kate itself is a variable to Niko to add more salt.

Money is also mostly useless, I never purchased any weapon and it was okay (that micro uzi 'on Faustin's account' still add 1200$ spent on weapons somehow) .

The game is throwing AKs and Carbines very often during the later part of the story.

@AkshayKumar I did an assassination mission and saved afterwards - it doesn't save the name of it.

I just did it after a mission in the middle of the story (Truck Hustle) but now I'm wondering if even playing one of the regular missions that you can save for after the story  would save over "story complete". Maybe that's there by default after playing the final story mission?

😁

Only thing with Deal is the best friends in the game are gone, or atleast the ones with the most interesting conversations with Niko. I like Jacob but it gets tiring hearing about Badman being paranoid for the tenth time I tell you.

That's why everyone knows Deal is the bad ending 😛 (except from a story perspective where it can be seen as equally good or better depending on your preference).

It's only Roman you lose btw (although you also lose Kate in both). And Mohammed by extension lol. All other friends are still available.

The Grunt 281

I discovered 2 things while trying to steal a TLaD Annihilator (but I don't think it's specific to the DLC) : police pilots are dumb (they get the blades to touch things easily) and the player with a high wanted level can hide inside helicopters (it's still impossible to escape the search area) .

I guess the vehicle being recognized by the police and the spotting has to be actually done by an officer, the wanted stars being white doing nothing for those.

Knowing this, the idea of preventing an easy escape by helicopter doesn't really work, the stars just turn grey when you exit the helicopter so you just need to find a vehicle and make your way outside the search area.

I love this game. I was playing Payback, usually I'd just drive to the car showroom and start lobbing grenades in/have a big shootout. But instead as soon as I arrived I went round the back of the buildings facing the showroom and noticed there's a window cleaning platform there. Took it up to the top, then climbed down the fire escape until I could jump across to the building directly overlooking the showroom. Killed all but one with rockets and sniper rifle from up there. Had to be careful of police bullets on the way down (I had a wanted level but had also called 911 before starting attacking the showroom to make things more interesting) but after descending the fire escape I found the final guy hiding behind a dumpster in the middle of a shootout with the police that had arrived and they helpfully killed him for me. Also the nice detail they added to this mission where the money they drop in the showroom is still able to be collected after completing the mission (there's even a hint to this in the post mission phone call) meant I didn't miss out by not entering the showroom during the mission.

Can't believe I still find new ways to do stuff in missions. I just love how much freedom you get to do things differently, it's why it'll always be the best GTA.

Not as much freedom as the 3d era but it's alright. It's just a different direction you can enter from.

How it's 'not as much' ?

For the mission itself I would give the upper hand to GTA IV possibilities-wise, you can add the cops and Dwayne's backup, the crooks camp a position so there isn't a thousand ways to finish it.

So with playstations version of gamepass in the works rumors say that they will have PS3 games on there and some rumors even say downloadable. I really hope we can buy IV from there and finally get it on PS4/PS5.

I think IV does have more tbh because the more advanced combat and movement etc means there's more to work with. Plus on top of stuff you can just vary with your own initiative they put specific choices in many missions (whether it's something big like whether to kill or spare someone or something small like which way to enter), and you can do things like call Dwayne's goons for backup, call the cops, use Mohammed's cab or Brucie's chopper to escape etc. Also in 3D era a lot more missions are on time limits which obviously limits how much you can vary them, whereas in IV that's rarer. IV has so many different little things you can vary and they add up to a lot.

I think in 3D era there's usually one way they thought of to complete the mission and you can just exploit there not being too many restrictions to vary that a bit. But in IV they purposefully designed missions with multiple ways to complete or vary them and made it so you often feel rewarded for using your initiative, on top of just not too many restrictions. That's why I find it the best for that. It's even a lot of fun to try failing missions in different ways in IV lol, due to the insane amount of unique fail cutscenes and phone calls.

Then they went totally the other way in V with every mission planned out down to the smallest movement and any use of your imagination or initiative punished with a fail screen.....sad.

What are some ways to avoid getting hit by the rocket launcher of Dimitri in the final mission? Also how do i catch upto Jacob’s helicopter? Last few times i tried, he went faster than the boat and disappeared.

Once you're in the helicopter fly high up! The game says you have to fly low but it's lying, you can fly as high as you want, completely out of range of rockets. You and Jacob don't need to shoot at him at all either. As soon as you get in it just fly straight up, and then follow him at a safe distance from up there (until finally a rocket is scripted to hit you to take you down to the island). When you're chasing him in the boat also just don't get too close, and try going from side to side as you follow him. As far as catching up to Jacob's helicopter, you just have to floor it towards the marker once it appears. If all else fails watch it being completed successfully on youtube and copy.
