It's just crazy how many buildings you can climb in this game... I didn't know you could climb to some roofs in Alderney and I didn't know about the abandoned railroad track which ends near the pay'n'spray in Algonquin where you can also climb. Exploring these spaces feels more like Uncharted than GTA IV, bc most of the time I just drive around but don't notice these backyard spots. Wish this game had more parkour elements..

Although I prefer to kill Derrick over Francis (as I’ve stated many times in the past and I still stand by it to this day), I honestly like Patrick and Gerald more than either one of them. I honestly wish there was an option to kill both Derrick and Francis. Francis is a corrupt pig and Derrick was in the IRA which is literally a communist terrorist organization. Patrick and Gerald are crooks themselves but at least they don’t hide behind any kind of cause or politics in order to justify their villainous deeds. Francis and Derrick have definitely both disappeared from their brothers and Kate. What pricks! Both of them. At least Francis still talked to his mother. Derrick didn’t really talk to anybody until he came back after years of no contact. I also don’t really like the fact that he’s kind of a whiny b*tch.

I also personally have a theory on who ratted out Gerald. It was probably Derrick because that man is the biggest rat in the whole McReary family with Francis being not too far behind him. It was also before the Blood Brothers mission. I mean, Derrick already ratted out his former IRA friends named Bucky Sligo and Aidan O’Malley. No reason he wouldn’t rat out his own brother.

I also don’t get how anybody thinks Ray Boccino ratted out Jimmy Pegorino or even how Jimmy Pegorino even came to that conclusion. It was totally Phil Bell. Doesn’t that joker know the golden rule of the Mafia? Don’t trust any non-Italian associates over Italian members. @Jeansowaty’s correctness on this matter cannot be overstated. Plus, Ray Boccino constantly got betrayed. By Luca and his three friends. By Johnny Klebitz and Jim Fitzgerald. By Isaac Roth and Mori Green. And even in a way, by his own boss, who made Niko kill him instead of Phil. Ray Boccino might be a slick bastard but just look at him. You can tell he takes being a mobster too seriously to rat anyone out or work for the feds.

I've done that mission a few days ago and I killed Francis, as I did every time I played it.

Derrick is not good but I didn't like how Francis extorted Niko into doing this whole thing, he then threatens to "put him away" if he doesn't do it, he's a hypocritical scum.

I mean, Niko was pretty much a communist terrorist lol, althought he was in a war.

Is dealing with police easier with vehicle density set to 1 because it's possible to speed up or is it easier when set to 100 because police has a harder time dodging the traffic than does the player?

I'd go for the second option, since the driving AI is bad at dodging cars in this game. However I could hardly ditch the cops when the road was free.

If by ditching, you mean losing stars completely. I understand that considering police spawning is pretty broken and they come out nowhere often.

By ditching I meant evading their cars so they lose sight of you. If the road is free and they get behind you, they're pretty good at tailing you. However if there's heavy traffic I suppose they will get stuck in it since they're bad at driving around obstacles.

Hmm yeah. I guess since they don't have that nitro bullsh*t feature that they got in V, I didn't think they were good at tailing but come to think of it. I do have memories of being tailed by cops in IV, just not very often I guess.

There is something different about GTA IV regarding its writing and the way it shows certain things. As in showing different viewpoints. One major bit that always sticks with me is Niko's dialogue with Kate during Francis' funeral.

Kate: Thanks, Niko.
Niko: What for?
Kate: Guys like you don't like cops. Being here, helping us out... I appreciate it.
Niko: Is not that I don't like cops, you do what you do to get by. Cops are just regular guys trying to survive.

Now I don't mean this as a "Niko Bellic appreciation, GTA IV writing appreciation" post or "Cops are good/bad guys" post. My point is pretty obvious I believe. Mr. Bellic is someone who killed more cops than anyone in the city and it's part of his job, sorta. We can say that cops are a huge portion of his main enemies. But he seems not to make this personal and is able to look at things from a different place. Now I understand that he did have his share of angry moments, saying things like "...f*cking pigs." but ultimately these were done in moments when he was pumped full of adrenaline and I don't believe that it changes how Niko actually feels about cops.

I often found this bit of dialogue very interesting and always pops up in my mind. It's one of those things IMO that goes beyond being a well written story/dialogue and probably part of the reason that GTA IV's writing feels special.

Another piece of dialogue I find sorta interesting and occasionally pops up in my mind is in the final mission of TLAD when they are about to burn the clubhouse.

Angus: We had fun here.
Johnny: Yeah, we did. But it's over.
Terry: Yeah it is. How the f*ck did that happen?
Angus: You know how it happens, it's that f*cked up part of people which means good is never good enough. I mean it wasn't enough we had to be drug dealers, we also had to be outlaws, to be maniacs, to be psychos and to be greedy. You know....

This part is basically real and while it is sorta different than the conversation between Niko and Kate, it still shows a side of people and this dialogue sticks with me.

Can someone give a few trainer examples to rewatch cutscenes without starting missions? Preferably something simple.

Liberty's Legacy.

Mainly intended for CE. All you need is Scripthook.dll from the .zip and aCompleteEditionHook.asi from here in that case. Put the trainer's .asi into plugins folder and the trainer's folder into the main directory.

Ultimate ASI Loader can be found here for loading all of this. Put the dinput8.dll to the main directory.

If you're on older patches just skip the aCompleteEditionHook.asi and rename the dinput8.dll to xlive.dll (beware, this won't work on 1.0.8.0, it needs a special scripthook afaik but idk much about it)

Funny stuff, I was goofing around with the story character models and I managed to do this:

The theory claiming that Niko's head model acted as a base for all other male characters' heads is definitely true - Look how accurate the textures fit onto the models, even with a simple swap.

I always found Gerry McReary to be one of the worst offenders for this

Time to do it with every male character, for scientific purposes. :shillkek:

Niko said he'd never been to LC before but every guy there has a bit of Bellic's DNA in them, perhaps his father traveled a lot... :yee:

Nevermind, I found it! It's in Cerveza Heights, Broker. I'm glad Rockstar put a War of the Worlds reference in GTA 4, and GTA at all. It's also another reference to aliens in the GTA series (although an alien movie, not original GTA aliens) and the only visual reference to aliens in GTA 4.

This Tripod looks like a mix of the 2005 Spielberg Tripods and the 1953 ones, with long legs, but a simplistic command pod with a heat-ray mounted on top.

i was recently thinking about some old videos of the game back when gta 4 was still new. and then i remembered that some of the videos show the cars being narrow and taller. but when i play the game. the cars look wider and shorter. is there a reason for this? is it a setting in the menu? or is it a recording thing? it just seemed odd. and I've never seen it in a gta 5 video so i assume it's a gta 4 thing.

I'd say don't get your hopes up for anything. They never really cared about the game after CE. Just minor but very minor updates, I doubt they'll ever do it again in a major way that would fix all the port's problems, especially after 15 years.

Not to mention most of the time you see stuff for it on SteamDB, it's always RGL stuff.

The best hope for any sort of major update would be if Double Eleven works on new ports of GTA IV somewhere down the line. But if RDR1 is anything to go by, it would very likely only be released on PlayStation and Switch (as IV is already on PC, and the 360 version is playable on modern Xbox consoles via backwards compatibility). This is a shame in retrospect, especially now that the PS4 version of Red Dead runs at 60FPS on PS5. Xbox users have 4K support (on One X/Series X), sure; but a higher frame rate and certain changes, such as fixing the headless glitch in Undead Nightmare, would have been welcome.

On the other hand, IV is plagued by the 60FPS final mission bug on Series consoles and PC (without mods, although it was briefly fixed in a patch until one of the updates after that somehow reintroduced the problem). So if D11 does port the game, perhaps the fact that such a critical issue exists on two platforms would convince R*/T2 to release the new version on PlayStation, Xbox and PC this time around (even if it meant delisting the original and/or requiring existing owners to buy the game again. Not that I agree with this business tactic after the DE debacle, but this is R* and T2 we're dealing with).

The only thing I can think of is the game in those vids prob had a different aspect ratio setting (4:3 or smth) which made the cars look like that
