GTA IV General Chat

Recommended Posts

I'm hella late posting this but when I was 16 back in early 2017, I beat GTA IV without dying, getting busted, or failing a mission in only 11 hours and 45 minutes without cheats. This was my 5th playthrough and probably one of my proudest GTA accomplishments even 7 years later.

I've recently started collecting Japanese copies of various GTA games. I went ahead and installed both IV and EFLC on my Series X (the North American and Japanese versions both count as separate apps) and noticed some interesting tidbits:

  • Neither disc seems to be region locked, so I was able to play them just fine on my US console. IIRC, this is a case by case thing for 360 titles.
  • After installing vanilla IV, I did not need the disc inserted to play the game (which is something you normally do need to do for physical backwards compatible games on Xbox, as the game is downloaded from Microsoft's servers and the disc is essentially just DRM).
    • I already own the NA version digitally, so maybe that's the reason? The fact that saves are "shared" between regions seems to support this. I put that in quotes because the saves don't actually work unless it's for the same region as the version you're playing at the moment (the game tried to load my US autosave, but it gave some sort of error message and automatically started a new game). However, DLC seems to work properly, as I own both Episodes on my US Xbox account and heard the TBoGT Vladivostok FM playlist in IV. Unlike V, achievements are also shared between regions.
  • This one's really neat: the Japanese installs seem to have the original soundtrack intact! In IV, I heard one of the original Vladivostok songs (I don't know the name off the top of my head, but it wasn't Schweine because I skipped the intro cutscene) and 1979 by The Smashing Pumpkins on LRR. History by Mai Tai played on Vice City FM in EFLC, too. While I'd like to believe Rockstar/Take-Two worked out different licensing deals depending on the region, the most plausible explanation is that they simply forgot to update the digital Japanese versions to remove the songs.
  • This should be obvious, but unlike V (at least on PS3. I'm not sure about 8th Gen or E&E), almost all of the subtitle and menu text is in Japanese. Just figured I'd mention that as a heads up to any Xbox owners looking to import these versions for the original songs. If you've already played IV + EFLC to death, the language barrier shouldn't be too much of an issue, though.

Hi guys, probably wrong topic, but is it possible to launch Gang and Drug Wars through trainers like Zolika Menu or Liberty Legacy? Or are they only marker-activated?

ZMenu lets you launch storyline missions at least, but I'm not sure about drug and gang wars.

The snipers in GTA IV work exceptionally well without the first-person scope aiming view, who else agrees with me?

sometimes I take cover whilst facing the enemy just to be able to use the sniper rifles without the scope, its really effective since you one shot them with a bodyshot. although I feel like the crosshair isn't 100% centered when using it, idk it might only just be me.

No, it's not just you, the aiming actually seems to be a bit broken when using snipers without the scope.

I'm completing GTA V again (never played the non original version before so I wanted to do it with the added stuff and play in first person). Literally every time I play I think about how good it will be to play the superior GTA IV again in comparison lol. Really makes me appreciate the gun sounds in this game (among other things of course).

I wonder why we can't do this in GTA IV...

Oh well, this game is still a solid 20 out of 10 for me. I recently had to reinstall the game from Steam and play it without mods and downgrading, and IMHO the game looks, feels and plays a lot better without any mods rather than with them.

Agree here, but still some mods are just necessary to fix / add back broken / cut stuff like songs on the radio or broken textures. Also customisation mods are my personal favourite since IV is pretty limited in that department.

Other than these aspects, if they at least fixed the Steam game, I would spend more time with it.

Yeah, I myself used to use the Customizable Niko\Johnny\Luis mod and fixes like Radio Downgrader, Fusion Fix, Console Visuals etc., but since it was modding that I was doing, I didn't take too long before I messed up the whole installation.

Also, I like how some of the weapon pickups are really well-placed:

Has anyone with an NVIDIA GPU tried out the RTX HDR feature that the new NVIDIA app introduced? I haven’t had much time with it yet, but I did mess around in TBoGT for a bit; HDR makes Liberty City’s nightlife much more breathtaking (especially on my 32” Alienware OLED). It’s also a generally better HDR implementation than Microsoft’s own AutoHDR on Xbox and PC. Do note that performance takes a hit, and you need to be on Windows 11 with at least a 2000 series card to enable it.

While it only natively supports DX9+ and Vulkan, Alex from Digital Foundry was able to get it working for games using OpenGL and older DX versions, as well as RPCS3 (using wrappers such as dgVoodoo or mucking about with a DXGI setting in the NVIDIA Control Panel, depending on the game/app). In theory, that means it should be possible to enable HDR in the 3D Trilogy and even the top-down games. I’d also be willing to bet that it fares better than whatever R* was going for with the “Cinematic” HDR mode in RDR2 (I was able to get AutoHDR working one time by leaving the in-game HDR toggle off, so I imagine it would be the same for RTX HDR).

EDIT: RTX HDR works perfectly in GTA III and SA, although I haven't tested VC yet. Keep in mind that my copies are modded with the usual essentials like WidescreenFixes,Silent Patch/etc., I can't guarantee anything for unmodded installs.

yes i tried it with gtaiv  and the results are  generally  good. Unfkrtunately its not able to actually lift the SDR maximum lumosity levels from the ingame map (meaning the things that are blown out or overexposed anyway will just be noticeably more overrxposed due to the naturally better contrast thanks to HDR) but the implementation is leaps and bounds above Windows's AUTO HDR, which is just a mess.

I find it especially useful in other games as well, for example in every assassins creed game it finally allows me to use HDR and also have reshade ray tracing effects (or any reshade effect really), which was impossible with the game's native HDR implementation (the games that offer support for ingame HDR anyway) before because it blew out the whole image into a grey foggy mess.

overall RTX HDR is a gamecharger for us with capable screens and cards and it is an amazing addition.  because HDR is super important to me, SDR just doesnt cut it nowadays.

I want them to announce PS4 and Switch remaster asap, this game deserve to be played by PS4, PS5, and Switch players.

These 3 consoles in total sold over 310 million units.

Personal gripes with the pricing and lack of substantial changes aside, Double Eleven's work on the RDR1 ports was quite solid, especially after 60FPS support was added for PS5. (Shame on Rockstar and Take-Two for still not bringing it to PC after all these years for who knows what reason, though; same goes for E&E remaining console-exclusive after almost two years and Video Game Deluxe's DE updates being stuck on mobile.) With how successful the PS4/Switch releases were critically and financially, it would be absolutely foolish to not have them also bring IV to more platforms. And, since they know for sure that it would be in good hands with Double Eleven (compared to the mess that Grove Street Games made with the Trilogy on multiple occasions), perhaps T2 may even be willing to give the team more time and a slightly larger budget to do proper remaster, as opposed to overcharging for a technically-fine, but barebones port like with Red Dead.

Honestly I think that this is exactly what Rockstar will have for us later this year.

Shame about lack of PC port of RDR, literally makes no sense.

As for GTA 4 port they only need PS4 and Switch since PC version already exists and is now playable on even low end PC hardware, oh and make it $40 max not $50 like RDR.

PS4 version should be able to achieve stable 60 fps, Switch will probably remain locked to 30 fps, PS4 Pro and by extension PS5 (played by BC) should be 2160p 60 fps.

I think it will be $50 because of the two DLCs.

Playing TLAD. Accidentally ran into Lost MC members playing cards in the clubhouse. Suddenly the group started swinging at me and someone from the back started firing too! What happened to brothers for life, Lost forever man?

Weazel News: The Lost MC beat one of their own members to death.  Club member ITSUMANGAMING who died a violent death was found in a skip outside the house formerly owned by Mikhail Faustin.

We'll stay with this story.  Covered Wagon Fan, Weazel News.
