FPS Drops, Tried everything please help!

Recommended Posts

Right so i have a pretty decent computer.  But i cant seem to run gta on ultra or ever very hight at 1080p75, ive tried to use nvidia GeForce Experience to optimise it but this hasnt done the job, it can drop to anywhere around the 30's.

I looked online and changed everything people have reccomened as of changing nvide control settings, power options, windows to be better at performance etc. Please can someone help PC specs below!

CPU -

AMD Ryzen 9 3900X Gen3 12 Core

GPU - Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER 8GB WINDFORCE OC

RAM - Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4 3200MHz (Duel Channel, Running 32GB)

Motherboard - Gigabyte AMD Ryzen X570 AORUS ELITE

Storage - Samsung Evo M.2 1TB 6GB/s

Thanks In advancve!

Geforce Experience appears to optimize GTA V to 30fps, or to use all of your available VRam, I had similar results, settings were way too high for me.

If you want high framerates, you should first disable Extended Distance Scaling in Advanced Graphics. That one creates a CPU bottleneck on the main thread.

(GTA V only uses 4 CPU cores effectively, its engine dates back to 2008 before proper multithreading was a thing. It can not use all of your CPU)

With your GPU, you should be able to run 1080p Ultra with 4x TXAA, except for Grass, lower that to High. And maybe use Softer soft shadows instead of nVidia PCSS. (Softer was standard setting for me) PCSS may look the best, but it isn't perfect, it uses alot of GPU power and can produce glitches, but Soft/softer/softest just works.

In Advanced Graphics, set High Resolution Shadows off, that setting is not worth the FPS drop.

Frame scaling should be off as well.

Sure, but I'm using a nVidia GTX 980 T, not a RTX 2080. Yours is at least 50% faster, so maybe set your resolution to 1440p or use Frame Scaling 1.50 with the rest of my settings:

And if you still don't get high frame rates, and your GPU isn't at 100% load, it's probably down to the bad optimization in GTA V's engine.

Thank you bud really appreciate this! Been the best help so far!

The first things you suggested work brilliant running 1080p60 on very high etc with all things you said to turn down or off, but when i lock vsync to 75 it gets the drops so im probley going to just lock it off at 60fps as it works and look great at the same time! Thank you for all your help, im guessing its down to optimization because as soon as you go to the new island for the heist of god 39fps haha!
