FanEu7 481
Obviously it's overall a groundbreaking game but it hasn't aged well for me. And its not just because its old, VC is only one year older and I can still play it although it shows its age. I think it's because Claude has no character so you can't get invested in the story. And every other character you meet seems like a scumbag too, he has no connection with any of them. Only character I like is Salvatore and that's more because of SA and LCS Also the city is just not fun to explore Edited January 8 by FanEu7 1 1
Evil empire 2,663
The absence of the bikes and helicopters are the main things that make GTA 3 looks so older compared to VC, at least IMO.
OH76 147
Yeah. It lacks a lot compared to Vice City and San Andreas. But the atmosphere is better compared to the two (VC's is good but not as good as III's and SA is too brown).

Americana 4,290
I don't think so. When you play Grand Theft Auto III in 2021 you know it's an old game, but it doesn't try to be anything else. It's a really simple and good game. Also, for some reason, the game looks much worse than Grand Theft Auto III... maybe it's the colors? Algonquin Assassin 49,726
GTA III’s core mechanics haven’t aged that well, but to be honest none of the 3D era GTAs have. Even for their time 3D era GTAs were pretty archaic compared to other games and it’s only more obvious the older they get. Shooting in manual aim is perhaps the worst. My God. After playing GTA IV where its shooting mechanics are smooth and responsive trying to shoot anyone in GTA III is bloody horrendous. Even auto-aim which is the more tolerable of the two is tedious, but manual aim almost makes it unplayable. I don’t know how I ever tolerated it back in the day. I love GTA III for its brooding atmosphere, city etc, but if it wasn’t for those things I don’t think I would ever go back to it. Vice City at least has the benefit of Tommy and some of the new goodies it introduced. Edited January 10 by Algonquin Assassin

Fake Lilina 445
You are talking about a game that literally kicked off the whole 3D Era. What did you expect from a game that was released in 2001?

Well my point is that VC which only came out one year later still has aged much better so its really not about time and more about some decisions Rockstar made in GTA 3 like a mute MC. Its a groundbreaking game but just not fun to play anymore for me

I think GTA VC aged just as bad as GTA III.

I honestly find it very enjoyable. That is, if you like GTA games with difficulty and other things. PS: I prefer if Claude/Fido stayed silent rather than having a annoying voice. Lioshenka 1,022
III has the best atmosphere in the series. GTA VC from the very start wasn't a great game. What made it good was the setting (the 80-ies) and the music. The map was small, with little details, and the amount of new features wasn't particularly overwhelming. VC felt... empty, whereas III felt deserted if you see what I mean? Empty alleys suited III atmophere, but in VC it seemed out of place. GTA III on another hand is pretty damn good, either 20 years ago or now. You can take any element of it, and they'll all be quite impressive. An amazing choice of radio stations, a well designed city - even the story is arguably the most realistic in the series.
Ash_735 17,119
I can see where the OP is coming from slightly though, Vice City added a lot of QoL tweaks to the game that GTA3 lacks, small things like being able to damage cars with melee weapons or your fist, being able to dive out of cars, being able to shoot people through car windows, etc.
Copcaller 678
Yeah it shows its age but it still draws me back I love the soundtrack, atmosphere and missions.
1funeral2many 3
the 3D era games were all transitionary games, 3 especially. Playing the first 2 GTAs made me realize that 3 was basically just a third-person version of those ones except there’s this newfound emphasis on exploration. Then you got Vice City which introduced elements like the businesses or like Ash mentioned those little programming details that became mainstays in the series. Then San Andreas came in with its large map and character customization and skill points. 3 is certainly the most dated of the PS2 trilogy when we look at it like that, the first step to the GTA we know today.
