That; makes me wonder if they just did the placeholder "deeds" then were lazy about ever taking them out when they

decided to add 10 levels to each of the trades instead (prestigious bounty hunter, etc.)

From all my datamining it seems that old content and not used stays around in the game files just in case they change their minds so they can refer to it later, especially if it's planned content they haven't found a way to introduce yet, however if they were to add properties I am assuming all the present deeds will be replaced with increased prices since everything has become much more expensive since December for new content added at least.

Concept, yes, but as a relatively common phenomenon, no.

Isn't that the point of the single player story? One last hurrah before splitting with all the loot and going somewhere to live in peace.

The spread of law via the expanding transportation system was a solid reality by the 1880s, the wild west was over, generally accepted as lasting from 1865-95.

Bands of outlaws roaming around freely would have brought the army in immediately, and that would have been that.

This isn't exactly correct. Outlaws didn't mysteriously vanish after 1895 and the military/government didn't all of a sudden get their sh*t together.
Outlaws lasted will into the 20th century.
Good example of this is the famous last stand of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. That happened in Nov. 1908.
And it wasn't until 1916 that Stagecoaches stopped getting robbed...
Think about your perceptions of the 1910-20's and think about the fact most people didn't actually have vehicles, many still used horses, and stage coaches were still in service. The perception of everybody in suits driving Model T's is only accurate to limited areas of the US during that time (Chicago, New York, L.A., etc).

As for the games history, Outlaws were still a thing in 1912, the year that Red Dead Redemption took place.
So both in real life, and in context of the game's world, 1898 still has plenty of outlaws.

Outlaws never really disappeared, they just got better at hiding their activities and protecting themselves.  The more easily recognized are now known as cartels, druglords, organized crime.    But a lot of others hide behind the curtains of business, public service, sometimes law enforcement, government and even Presidents.  Once they have power they even tweak laws to suit their activities.  Perfect examples are in Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Russia, China, North Korea as the more extreme cases, but we see their paw-prints in many countries.

The Outlaws of Red Dead are really nothing more than a romanticized version created by the movie industry.  Fun, but the way that they are depicted is mostly imaginary.

Do you guys think that maybe they are taking their time with getting properties in the game [ok obviously by this point, lol, but please keep reading]? Like really detailing and fine tuning the features to come for those properties. Maybe not just having furniture but having furniture be affected by the theme your camp is using or if you get the stew pot and the butchers table those will count toward a "kitchen" set and then those features will be added to your house or if you get the upgraded camp fire your living room will improve [be eligible for certain improvements: rug, fireplace, couches, whatever], or an improved bedroll/tent will lead to a better furnished bedroom (I think you get the idea). Considering [their sweet baby] GTAO supposedly got its biggest update (from what I hear) I am in the hope that things just might begin to brighten up for RDO [again; I heard 2019 was decent in terms of updates and new content]. Maybe, of course, properties, companions (your dog, the "strangers" [I am not too sure what a train clerk like Hector would be good for but just something]), actually exciting roles (Outlaw, Lawman, Prospector, etc.).

I don't think that's what they're doing at all. Based on what has happened to date, I don't think they have the imagination or desire to do anything that would be considered WOW for RDO.

The reason I say they don't have the desire is because players have come up with some great ideas the past year or so but R* just ignores them and keeps plodding along with the extremely unimaginative junk they keep pushing out.

After 2 years this junk is all they can come up with. I don't see where even more time will equal new, creative ideas from the same people unless they start listening to the players.

Damn, that really disappoints me. R* certainly can do it, from what I hear they are just too lazy which is such a shame. Clown Movement 2.0? Last time that seemed to work (yet again from what I have heard). I do not think they listen to us in any other way (other than dropping player count, but in someways it seems that they do not really mind this game dying if people aren't going to buy gold). Do they even check the feedback site?

Their counter to dropping player count is to sell a stand alone version for cheap and draw in new players who will think they game is awesome, as we all did when we first started playing, and more or less force them into buying gold to get anywhere.

At the same time they buy themselves even more time when it comes to developing new things since the new players are busy with current content. New players don't realize everything that's broken in the game so R* has no pressure from those players to fix the game or to reduce lobby sizes, or at least give the option for small ones, so ALL content is available.

This is why I don't think they have any intent to drastically improve the game.

As I said somewhere before, if they would just listen to players they wouldn't have to worry about player count dropping plus it would probably lead to a higher revenue stream.

Oh, I see. Makes sense to me now, especially with that Daily Challenges nerf. I never got to play with the old Dailies system, so I have been grinding. With an experience for the game recently I can say as a new player is fun, but it will dry up rather quickly without friends and whatnot (new content and listening to fans, too). The most gold I have had (in one holding) is about 25.77 gold bars, and that is not counting my purchase of three roles (Moonshiner [most recent], Trader, and Bounty Hunter). I have seen the leaked stuff of the next Outlaw Pass and I am not excited. I am, by a long shot, not buying that thing. Bring unique horses, unique (though not obnoxious) clothing, John's outfit, even Jack's would be cool.

"As I said somewhere before, if they would just listen to players they wouldn't have to worry about player count dropping plus it would probably lead to a higher revenue stream."

Oh, yes. Players/gamers love being heard it would not only generate revenue, as you said, but some good PR for R*. If they listened to fans, I would not actually mind buying their stuff; say if there is a horse that is a lot of gold I would, as a person who has never purchased MTXs (only DLCs like Undead Nightmare), actually not mind. Good quality content, listening to fans, and knowing that everything is genuine is what I want to see as a consumer (though I am also a general fan of R*; who isn't?) I would love to do this stuff for R* but its just so disrespectful to the playerbase; especially the veterans. I hate that type of stuff, it makes me know how they just might treat me and that is not good PR/reputation among the fan/playerbase. Having had experienced a fair bit of content of RDO in only a month of playing is a bit disappointing and concerning, but I plan to stick around (so long as I keep my Xbox Live Gold).

I never purchased Star Wars: Battlefront (2015) because I thought that it sucked, it seemed kind of "schemey". But a R* experience? If they really put their effort into it? Oh yes, it would be one of those "take my money" situations. Hell I would pay for $10 - $30 content updates, but I do not want to participate in dividing the player base.

Be glad you're new. Everything they are doing is geared for new players. There is seriously nothing for long time, loyal players......except for their middle finger. Thanks for your loyalty but we don't want or need you anymore.

My son asked me why I don't create a new player so I can build up again. Well, simple answer, in two years and over 3500 hours I've done everything so much I couldn't stand to do it all over again. Would be just as boring as it is now. I'd be lucky to get to level 20.

I started with Online not long ago, recently got the last of the roles to level 20+, and recently started on Story mode.  I think it makes me uniquely aware of the good, the bad and the ugly from both the new and old player perspective.

This is what I see:

  • Both Online and Story mode have lots of amazing content... but it is not obvious unless somebody guides you.  The game does a horrid job of guiding you and most online guides are of such limited scope and bad quality that don't help anyone except those that are willing to view half a dozen guides on any given topic to get the real answers.
  • R* utterly failed to create a community.  The story mode forum is dead, and the online one has maybe 1/2 a dozen to a dozen people in the conversations.  R* does not participate in their own forums to try to keep them alive.  Posses are a great concept but there is no good way to identify active and large enough clans so that you can find a posse of similarly-minded players at any time.  And of course, R* failed to protect players that don't want hostile play (the majority of players), so they end up isolating themselves even further just to avoid griefers... making cooperative gameplay virtually non-existent.
  • Quite a few basic mechanics are inconsistent between Story and Online mode.  Eagle eye is a perfect example... completely broken and frustrating in Story mode.  If they only took the best behaviors from both modes and carried them over to the other mode it would solve a lot of the existing frustrations.
  • Keybindings and menus (at least in PC) are horribly unnatural to people coming from the normal gaming community.
  • There are far too many bugs and glitches that should be trivial to fix but go unfixed for ages.  I understand that there is a non-trivial cost to doing releases on consoles but that is no excuse... they could easily implement most fixes and deploy them frequently on PC while sticking to the once in a blue moon schedule for consoles.  That would even ensure that things are thoroughly tested (live on PC) long before they get deployed on a console update.
  • Some of the bugs push the majority of players away from a lot of the content.. for example, players that prefer Defensive mode in Online quickly abandon "Stranger missions" because those missions almost always dump you on Offensive mode and do not return to Defensive after the mission.
  • A lot of Online content has arbitrary "cool down" timers that make playing it undesirable - like Moonshiner and Naturalist, causing players to grind them to level 20 and then mostly abandon them.  Also, what is the point of the Naturalist nincompoop spraying you and refusing to do business for 5 minutes other than to annoy players and make them not play the role in annoyance?
  • Online is very dependent on gold - not just for "extras" but for core functionality - and yet only Bounty Hunter lets you earn it.  Dumb.  They need to either convert all of the core functionality to RD$ or allow every role to earn gold.
  • Story mode probably has enough content for 2-3 play-throughs.  But online starts getting boring the moment you reach level 20 in all of your roles because of all of the above issues.  The only incentive to keep playing Online is the dailies but the 28-day reset pretty much killed that.  I went through a reset but I doubt I'll bother to keep playing every day - not even for the single daily challenge to keep the streak going - after the next reset.

R* really really needs to fix the issues and come up with content that brings players back to the game for the long term, as right now there is nothing.  Otherwise the game will die and few if any players will choose to buy gold.

I would add that R* really missed the boat with this title.   Done right, with a good way to find and join clans that match the personality of the player... this could have been an extraordinary COOP multiplayer game.  And success on COOP multiplay would have opened the possibility for good "intentionally joined" (not forced nor even strongly encouraged) PvP.

Yes, very true.

You more or less only see the same people, with it actually being a surprise when the "Online Stand Alone" actually brought a couple new posters!!!   ;)

Again, its weird to play something like this while also still messing around with "No Man's Sky"; two completely different experiences, as far as the developers

"listening."

No Man's Sky Players "Hey, we'd like to explore and do stuff on derelict freighters!"

Hello Games "Hey, here is a derelict freighter addition, you guys can explore them and get freighter upgrades and stuff and kill stuff and junk!!!"

No Man's Sky Players "!!! !!!!"

Red Dead Online Players  "hey, we'd like properties and such (which were mined, by the way!) and more roles/things to do! Oh and clothes, clothes, clothes, horse varieties etc!"

Rockstar Games "hey, here are 10 more Bounty Hunter levels, as well as future dripfeeding discounts on that stuff (often after you've already bought the stuff!!! )"

Red Dead Online Players "??? ????"

Hello Games "Hey, even though none of you can really even buy Xbox Series X/Playstation 5 yet, we went ahead and dropped this update patch which

improves everything visually, adds higher limits/size to your base building as well as much faster warping/loading times when you can!"

No Man's Sky Players  "!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!   @@@ !!!!"

Red Dead Online Players  "Hey, how about you guys do that?"

Rockstar Games "*crickets*"

They did on XBox, they throw it on XBox Game Pass, to recover lost players...
It's like life support on a dying person...

This game is slowly, slowly going downhill, until the day R* decides to turn off the servers...

It confuses me why R* refuses to see what people are asking for. They could do a "I'm not a Hipster" style update to the game that adds the ability to buy Wagons and Stagecoaches etc. Not ones tied to Roles but just generic ones that the NPC's drive. I would love to get my hands on the two-seater "Sports" Wagon and power slide it around corners or the heavily armoured wagon (Not Maxim Gun). Why? Because I want to, there does not need to be any logic or Role behind wanting generic basic stuff that's already in the game.

I don't want any more Roles for the time being, its already incredibly easy (yet tedious) to make money and Gold. I want stuff to f*cking spend it on and QoL additions. Let us buy properties and take the Casino penthouse decoration system and put it in RDO. Let me choose where I want to put furniture, trophies etc.

I don’t want properties or mindless trinkets to buy and then gather dust. I want them to revamp online to be a survivalist mmo. Rather than just grinding for money for the sake of having it, we should be trying to make money so we can survive. A bushranger-themed looter shooter is only fun as a single player experience. Multiplayer is more fun as a cooperative/competitive fight for survival in the harsh frontier wilderness.

I want to have to hunt for food to not starve, have to wear heavy coats and build a fire to not freeze, have to shoot and rob to not be be shot or robbed, have to run to not go to gaol. Have to save money to buy the equipment I need to do all of the above. Imagine having to buy a new hat because your last one fell in the river. Having to buy a new rifle because you let the other one rust to pieces. Having to pan for gold or rob a stagecoach because you lost your pocketed money the last time you died.

Something like John Marston 's Ranch , not townhouses like in Saint Deni, just keep it real, being able to buy different types of Rancheswould be awesome with the options to buy a horsebarn......and A Furniture dealer for instance.Having to defend your home against looters or Savages on the kill , Imagine that. What if there was something like an Outlaw Role or a Lawman Role.....

Not like it's supposed to be , being able to rob coaches and Banks, Rob ranches...with somekind of greater purpose , yeah any one can beat a pedestrian down and loot it....but what is the point....We need lawmen that keep hunting you down, with missions you have to do in order to get them off your back......if and when you get caught, the challenge is in not getting caught ever....or you get to work the chaingang and do time for a couple of real days......escape-missions or working as an informant in order to get a free out of Jail card......too many free out of Jail cards , will get you a Bad Reputation....A Target among outlaws....Why can't they do that, with this game for instance.Inhance the immersion!

Who decides how it's supposed to be? Anyone who wants to continue enjoying the game with the limited content has to make their own fun and find ways to maximise what they get from the game. I've been told about someone who plays the game and does nothing apart from bird watching. They spend hours doing it. It wasn't something that the game was designed for but they are able to get lots of pleasure from it. There are lots of role playing possibilities in the game which will probably give some people more enjoyment than the manufactured roles.

One thing I'm curious about though. What's...with....the strange......punctuation.........?
