“Sharks with friggin laser beams!”  That’s just what Austin Powers was spoofing about the Bond films. Isn’t it enough to have people eaten by sharks? And if they have laser beams, why have sharks at all? Why not just shoot them with the lasers?  And changing the target audience to 12 year olds has happened all over the entertainment/media industry and it has ruined everything. I think it’s a result of monopolies/oligopolies which really began after the telecommunications act of 1996.  Five or so companies own almost everything, less competition, fear of competing against yourself, fewer products, more eggs in one basket, bigger need for product to be a hit, cheaper to have some of your audience buy one thing rather than an even greater number buy several, product becomes a caricature,  stereotype, parody of itself trying to appeal to the most lucrative audience members, etc.

I agree. As soon as Rockstar find themselves bending the story mode to the distasteful requirements of the newer fans, they should stop making it. I don't want them to compromise their creative and artistic integrity.

I guess you're right. I think they could still have a big audience if they went a less dumb way. But I guess it's just the easiest/cheapest/least effort requiring way to go and demographic to aim at. It's very sad when you know how high quality their work was in the past though.

Do you remember the Friedburg and Seltzer films?

 

Those were literally bottom of the barrel crap that came out in the late 2000s that somehow made millions of dollars.
