In a reality without GTA Online, perhaps we would have got remasters (and probably GTA VI by now). It would've made sense too - cash in on the success of GTA V by (re)releasing more offerings. But releasing more GTA games now only splits the player base and takes many of them away from where Rockstar really wants 'em - shark cards.
