Happy Holidays from the GTANet team!

I keep alerting the guards but not sure why...

I've completed the heist 3 times now so have no problem getting it done. But for some reason, no matter how stealthy I am, I somehow always alert a guard and never know what I do wrong. I use suppressors, avoid visions fields and CCTV, I keep quiet etc. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm use to stealth missions, but I just can't get the hang of this one.

Any tips? What might I be doing wrong?

It's hard to say without watching you do it. Don't walk into vision cones is the most obvious one. Don't kill guards in front of cameras or in the vision cones of other guards; sometimes you have to wait for someone to move, or kill multiple targets in a specific order to avoid one spotting the other dying. Don't shoot at a guard in such a way that bullets may pass by them and get near someone behind them--this one is subtle, but shooting near guards will alert them, and it's easy to do this accidentally if one is standing far behind another, and you shoot at either of them. Don't get too close to guards (looking at you or not) while driving, they do hear the engine noise. Don't leave bodies in the path of a patrolling guard; in fact, your best bet in most areas is to identify anyone walking and make sure to take them out first.

But my best tip is simply this: don't kill anyone that you don't have to. If you're trying to keep stealth, every single shot fired is just an opportunity to get spotted. Take your time and find paths you can follow that simply avoid guards. I usually am killing 4 guys total inside the compound, and maybe 5 more during my entire escape (including all the ones between the compound door and outer gate). Streamline your route and minimize your risk. Watch YouTube runs if necessary, see what other players do.

Guards can hear, if you misfire and hit a wall they will hear. You may also be firing more than one bullet with automatic weapons meaning the other flies off and hits a wall.

Oh, one more: whenever possible make damn sure you get a headshot, and if not, make sure they die before they stand back up. The telltale signs of a clean kill are that you'll get a little RP award for the kill and their dot will disappear off radar instantly. It's very easy to slightly miss the head and just knock them down; when that happens you'll have a second or two to finish them off, but if you don't, they set off the alarm. If you're not certain you hit the head, keep pumping bullets into their prone body until you're sure. In some cases, I do this on purpose because it's easier than the headshot--the most common examples are any time two guards are next to each other and I'm by myself. I'll headshot one, then quickly shoot the other to knock him down and keep spraying until he dies. But it's a good thing to keep in mind anytime you're not completely certain you got the headshot.

A few things to watch out for:

  • Guards are alarmed when bullets fly by them or hit an object nearby; careful with the sniper rifle as its shots penetrate bodies
  • Don't drop guards in vision of a camera, even the white ones when wearing a disguise
  • The juggernaut guard seems to be able to find bodies and hear when guards are shot in his vicinity (not sure about that tho)
  • At least when playing during the day it appears the guards driving around in vehicles can spot bodies (also not 100% sure on that one)

Yeah I failed more times than getting it right. Usually I dont even know what happend. So if the guard is alone and its possible and if it will not take to much time, I knock them out. I got a fast and easy route to do it stealthy. But yeah sometimes I dont even know what allerted them.

If a guard sees a dead body, will it set of the alarm? Still unsure about this

Thanks for the tips guys!  I do take caution with all of these that have been said, but somehow I'm still doing something wrong.

Yeah same here.  I make sure to be really careful with my shots and positioning, and I still don't what I do wrong sometimes.

i have a clip of a guard walking over a corpse without a care. keep in mind your steps if youre not being crouched can alert them. if you watch your minimap and see a pulse off your character youre risking an alert.

That's not true.

You can run the entire time.

ive set them off by running on the floor above, watch your minimap if youre close enough and start your sprint they will hear if you get into your sprint first it isnt as loud after the first few steps

It depends whether you're inside or outside the compound, I think. Either way it is possible in first person to move fast while in stealth.

If you use the sniper, have in mind its bullets pierce, therefore if there are guards in the line of fire/behind the guard you were shooting at, they'll be alerted.

even if ouy put a silencer to your weapon, the shots will be quite loud. watch the minmap when shooting, it has a big radius.

thats one reason I got caught often, before regognizing this.

my open questions:

do any guard react to the bodies?

why does the red cone changes to blue, if you enter another floor? is there a difference then?

I think the guards get alerted by any sound they hear within a radius of a few paces, killing a guard within hearing distance of another would alert him even if he is looking the other way.

I must have had consistent success contrary to what most other people are saying...

I sprint everywhere - through active cameras, right up to walking or stationary guards, near to two enemies facing and talking to one another, etc, and I've never had the alarm raised or guards suspicious as a result. Normally I only kill 1-4 people in the Compound too.

Generally speaking, if any guard is killed whilst in the cone of vision of another guard, the other guard will be alerted and want to shoot you - but if you're quick enough that's not an issue normally.

Guards don't seem to care about other dead bodies, but I've found the cameras don't like that, which is fair enough. I would like to see a notification in the top left though like the Casino Heists in that case, "A body was spotted by a Camera" or something.

I failed 5 times before I finally got my path down. Then after soloing it 10 times I start taking a friend with me to show him how to do it. We failed as a team probably 6 times before we got our pace. Now we walk right through it without issue.

Just keep at it.

I always alerted the minigun guard when shooting at upstairs guard. I guess its because bullet flew trought upstair guards head and alerted minigun one

I don't know exactly what you're doing wrong, or how you are alerting the guards, but here's a tip of my own:

Don't shoot a guard unless you absolutely have to. Especially inside the compound, most guards can be either avoided or knocked out from behind.

Walk up behind them, aim at them and press reload button while holding a gun. This works for all the guards that are walking around, including the juggernaut.

As for the ones that are standing still in pairs, ignore them, they won't move around and there is no absolute need to kill them.

(unless you need a keycard and nobody else drops it. And you only need 1 keycard from the guards, the other one is in the office)

Whenever you shoot someone, make sure that both you and your target are not near another guard or a camera. If you accidentally kill a guard near a camera, shoot the camera immediately.

Also, never hold down the trigger on automatic weapons because of the recoil. Click once for every bullet. This is why I prefer meelee over shooting, no need to worry about potentially missing a headshot.

And whatever you do, do NOT use sniper inside the compound. Sure, it's nice for lining up double headshots in some missions, but that bullet will hit a wall somewhere, and someone will hear it.

watch for overlapping cones of vision i've killed a guard and one two floors up triggered the alarm (in real life there would be zero chance of detection)

as others have said be careful of accidentally letting off an extra shot which could set it off as well

yeah i've done it too for some reason he can hear a pin drop two floors above his head

just make sure he's nowhere nearby when you go for that guard
