Having real problems getting animals to spawn

Trading is my main thing and I'm trying to build up to get the hunting car. But for the last couple of days animal spawns have been almost non existant outside of horses and birds. I've seen a few varmints but almost no real game. No bison, nothing.

 

I think since yesterday I've seen maybe five deer in total (only one single one today). All one star.

 

I've changed session maybe up to twenty times and have just restarted the game for the third time. It's completely taken away my ability to be a trader and I have no idea how to fix it. PS4/UK btw.

I too have noticed less critters during the snowfall. They’re all hibernating lol

Agreed.  Small animals are a nightmare to find. 

 

Also, barn animals are scarce.  I am trying to collect farm animal samples from the 3 areas mentioned in the guides (valentine, emerald ranch and the farm north of the oil fields) and most of the times the barns are empty or have just a few Florida cracker cows and sheep... The others are almost never there.  A couple of the bulls/ox have never even spawned for me at their reported locations.  Very frustrating.  To add insult to injury I think that the poacher missions are not giving me naturalist XP so my naturalist is stuck at level 3.  The only thing that seems to progress my naturalist is the one naturalist daily challenge.

Go to Hennington's stead and have a camp there:

 

You throw a rock and hit 5 pronghorn, it was even that way with lots of people in the lobbies when spawns were

otherwise "broken." There are also very few other players camped around Hennington's, or even doing anything there (usually.)
That is also why I have my moonshine shack in the area.

 

THREE TIMES today, when going back to my camp, 3 pronghorn were hanging IN MY CAMP (POW POW POW!!! )

 

The smaller animals in the area, which were in high numbers before, are much harder to find now (rabbits (which there were billions of), etc.)

 

But you'll have PLENTY of pronghorn and even Coyote.

 

If Hennington's isn't your thing, you might try the desert; between Armadillo and Tumbleweed I AGAIN saw

TONS of pronghorn; again, not a lot of other animals except coyote (not even peccary, which I was trying to

find for "animal fat" for explosive rounds.)

 

Bayou is also good for a camp (but more players), went there to get the boars for explosive rounds "animal fat" (got LOTS) and was

tripping over gators too (and snapping turtles, and of course the birds, I COMPLETELY filled up Cripp's supply bar the other day on BIRD FEATHERS!

Odd, even lately going to Emerald Ranch never fails me for tons of farm animals.

 

Flatneck station, south of Valentine (which is not one of the ones you mention), is good in a pinch (for farm animal samples.) Several of the pig types (berkshire, etc.) are often there in a pen; the pen is either totally empty, or PIG CENTRAL!

 

I've stopped there, on the way back from a bounty or something sometimes, and could not resist to call in my Hunting Wagon then

shoot 5 perfect pigs in the head. I love how you can pick regular pigs up, unlike the stupid boars/peccaries that you can only skin.

Set up camp by Little Creek River. I logged on a few days ago and there were pronghorns all over the place, including 2 stuck inside my tent.

I just made a run

 

• Valentine:  Every single pen at all its locations empty.
• Farm north of the oilfields:  Exactly one Florida cracker cow.
• Small farm west of Emerald Ranch:  Angus Ox.
• Emerald ranch:  Sheep and Florida cracker cows (those two are never an issue)
• Flatneck station:  3 Berkshire, 2 Old Spot pigs.

 

From that big run of 5 locations all I got of useful (aka not extremely common) was 1 Angus Ox, 3 Berkshire pigs, 2 Old Spot pigs.  Seems very meager.

I hesitated to add this yesterday until I'd played for a while, but the last few days animals have been much more scarce, even with no other players in session.

Looks like they've changed something again.

It's similar to whatever they do when a certain animal is required for a daily, but now it's applying to almost everything.

I see a bunch of animals one time, then hardly anything for an hour, then a few then nothing again.

or, go to the san luis shore near the scratching post, on the islands there you can find hords of pronghorn on "vacation".
