Can we turn off the snow already?

Ok, we get it, Christmas time, snow all over RDO, pretty cool from a programming standpoint that you can do it.  - Can we turn it off now?

I hope not. Once it's gone we will have no snowfall for another year. You don't even get that up in the snow. It just rains there. It's a shame we don't get random snow storms throughout the year though.

I hate the snow. It makes the world so gloomy. The blizzards make visibility really low, meaning you have to get much closer to animals than normal when hunting, meaning you’ll spook them more easily. It also makes day and night blend into each other. It’s like I’m always playing at night. But the dumbest thing of the lot, is the fact that it’s snowing in the desert down south. Like it just makes no sense. I mean in GTA is pretty unrealistic for it to be snowing in a parody of Los Angeles, but the game is actually a parody so it kinda works. But RDR is a more “serious” type of game and snow in New Austin is just kinda dumb.

I kind of like it, since moving from the midwest to the west coast we don't see snow unless it's on the mountains so it kind of makes me feel like I'm home.

I'm with @AmyStone I wished we could get some good snowstorms up in the northern regions of the map instead of rain.

I like it. We only get it for a short spell so feel there's no issue. There's far more about this game that warrants complaint, but a bit of snow during winter months, na.

I do like it, but I feel it is different than last year.  Last year I feel like the snow slowly accumulated and built up til Christmas day to heavy storms.  Then on the day after Christmas they shut it off and turned it back on for New Years and it was more like what we have now.

I truly believe someone at Rockstar messed up.  I think they were supposed to shut the snow off of December 26th, but instead somehow shut off the event week.  The benefits page is blank, our discounts changed, the tripple payout on the festive serries stopped, and there was no newswire to accompany. Why would they leave the benefits page completely blank the day after Christmas when so many people just got the game?  Has to be somebodies F up

I'm pretty sure we had snow a couple of weeks into January last year. I seriously doubt that they forgot to shut it off lol. Anyway I hope they keep it going awhile, it makes the world feel more dynamic having extreme varying weather like that. Too bad we can't get really hot summers, changing leaves on trees in autumn, and more flower blossoms and rain in springtime.

We had snow til Christmas day, they shut it off December 26.  It started up again on New Years Eve or New Years day(I don't remember which one) and then it lasted the rest of the event week.  It was shut off in between the two Holidays, though.

Ok your memory is better than mine, all I recall is that I was still in the snow a week or more after new year. Well then we'll have to wait to see how they do it this year.

As much as I do enjoy the snow in this game, it was wearing it's welcome when they finally shut it off last year.

But still, why is there nothing on the benefits page all weekend?  Christmas weekend, lots of new players and you leave the benefits page blank?  Why aren't they advertising that Naturalist and Trader Roles can be bought for discount right now?  That all happened the day after Christmas, a Saturday none the less.   So I still think somebody screwed up somewhere.

You have a point, snowstorms in the desert is kinda goofy; but its only twice a year - three times last year (April Fools Day).

Rockstar is moving, in the parody direction with RDR2O. The Halloween Pass, had a He-man sword (machete).

@AmyStone

I agree. The Grizzlies should have snow, year round.

I like the snow, it's that its 24 hours a day every day.  Let it STOP snowing sometimes.

I have been in lobbies, where it slows down to a few flurries.

And not only does it rain up there, it does so in temps well below 32 which is the norm up there. Don't remember if I've ever seen the temp reach 32. But R* tends to ignore realistic nature things, like snakes slithering along in temps below 50. I've even seen snakes in 25 degree weather. And they are all over the place in the current snow and temps below 10. And the alligators all over the place right now in sub 32 temps. Gators and cold = not compatible.

I was in Armadillo yesterday getting vultures and it was a clear mix of rain and snow, thought that was a nice touch.

My fiancé and I have pretty much stopped playing due to the weather in-game. We live in Idaho, and this is the weather we see when we look outside, and now when we try to escape it inside. Both of us play this game because we are avid campers and hikers, so to get stuck indoors we need to be able to escape. Week-long blizzards are a bad idea no matter where you're at. Hell, watching your characters freeze their a$$es off is depressing.

I think that a day or two of snow all over would have been great! But this past week was a total effing bummer. Everyone that's commented about the doom and gloom, we agree with 100%

Also, I know that the snow effected spawn rates of things, I don't think I've seen a squirrel all week, which really hinders trader dailies. Not that the daily system isn't broken anyhow, but I really think they need to rework some of the tasks.

The conspiracy theorist in me really thinks that this was a ploy to effect the final streak week and keep veteran players from wanting to play.  If that's the case, it sure worked for us!

Around south of Tumbleweed... no snow and even warm weather.  But the area seems to have attracted lots of griefers.

I thought this was just me! About to post saying something must of got a glitched out snowless session to myself.

Agreed, a few days is fine. A few weeks is starting to make me log in for my daily and then log right out.

That's cuz they can see you now.

You don't do that anyway?

word, I really thought the snow ENDED today?! I spawned in my camp near the shore from blackwater and it looked like the snow had just melted or something, so kinda happy I went ahead and switched things up in the wardrobe/outfits - just to realize 5 minutes later during the next FR event in tumbleweed that it was indeed still snowing. jeez.

Yeah, same thing this morning.

It was suddenly gone, with it being warm and 80 or something in Hennington's stead (I even got 1/2 "used a tonic" since it said I was "hot" in my winter xmas outfit!  ;) )

Then I fast traveled to the Rhodes area, where it was 20 degrees and still snow...

When I went back to my camp at Hennington's, it was cold but no snow on the ground (so I could see now, but smaller animal spawns still seemed greatly reduced for the area.

The "7 medium" animal spawns, for the daily, were all birds (ravens, turkeys, pheasants); things like rabbit spawns still seemed insanely reduced, not sure why.

All this talk about snow actually made me want to revisit RDO for a spell.

Besides we seem to be getting less and less of it for christmas each year where I live so I’m happy to experience it digitally if I can, lol..

The only thing I can think of is the snow eats up a lot of game resources so they had to counteract it. 🤷‍♂️

I don't remember if animals spawns dropped off last year though.

Everything dropped off last year, but it wasn't because of the weather.

The game was all kinds of broken, it was in the middle of the great extinction at the time, hardly an animal to be found on any platform, much less random events, treasure maps, working businesses...total clusterf*ck.

I didn't start using the shine shack until sometime in January if I remember correctly because of the black screen glitch that still removed your shine every time.

I remember that for a few months after the frontier thing came out the animal spawns were terrible. I guess that would have run us through Xmas and New Year.

The more I think about it, it may have been late February/early March before the shine business worked, or at least they made it so you didn't lose you shine batch when the black screen happened, because it still happens even in solo sessions now.

I didn't do another shine sale until well after they had fixed the Poison Poppy's recipe glitch, I wanted to be sure the batch didn't disappear.

It wasn't the waste of money, after all it was only $50 (not to mention that doing the bootlegger missions usually didn't reduce the mash cost either), but the waste of time coupled with the horrible state of everything else was just too much.

it was even hard to get 9/9 role dailies because so many things either just didn't work, froze or crashed the game, or didn't register for the dailies.

The game was a complete embarassment.
