Could anyone figure out the math behind the loss of take after the first heist failure?

I think it's 100,000$ for each people in the heist; meaning you are gonna lose up to 400k on the already taken loot if you play with 3 associates, or 100k if you play solo, etc.

 

Is that just the money from the elite challenge? How does that work exactly? It's very frustrating to lose 400k given that's very often caused by the game not registering kills correctly exactly the same way as it did with DCH.
