wexfordvi3
Franklin lives with his aunt, Denise in the hood. When some heist is done, Lester needs someone to live in it, and he chooses Franklin for the house. People call him a sellout for moving with the rich, white people in the hills because of this. His aunt complains about it, even though she wants the house in hood for herself anyway. Lamar even calls him a sellout. Why is it that when someone who has grow up in the hood and then gets money and leaves, they are called a sellout? Some even say they are kissing up to white people. Payne
Jealousy. It’s Lamar, the idiot who couldn’t manage to get to somewhere all the time. Then there is Denise, who is also stuck in the past. These people are just jealous Franklin made something of himself. AmigaMix
If your life sucks, it's easier to pretend that you're taking a stance by not changing things, rather than admitting that you're unable to. vcfan1991
It's cringeworthy, predictable storytelling that's all. Sellout? Only R* have done that lol.

ddarko12
Realistic isn't it. Not to get too political, because I swing left, but you see this a lot today. People just get mad if anyone is more well-off than them. Our (yes I'm black) peaceful movements in the summer somehow got clouded up with messages like "eat the rich" and burning "rich" people's cars. They claim they wanna be rich and successful and work hard, but hate on the people who are already "at the top" which is basically anyone who makes more than $100k annually really. I've seen folks rule folks who probably make 200k annually as rich and greedy and the 1% and privileged and treat them the same as some millionaire or billionaire. Just because they knew how to save their nice income and purchase a nice house and nice car. My parents make something around that ballpark and I wouldn't class them as rich, people act funny if you say you're not rich too. Like you're humble bragging or something and then they get upset. It's one thing to get money or make a nice living and not care about anyone who makes less. But you don't have to be like that these days for folks to treat you with disdain and act like you've been fed with a silver spoon your whole life and are all about greed. God forbid you actually came from the ghetto, worked hard all your life and made like 40k or less annually and finally the time came that you got a good job and make good money to change that. /tangent SinZer0s
JiaHengK
It's the peoples' egos that really hold them back from achieving the same success. They can't stand to be faring worse than their peers, such as Lamar is to Franklin, which is why their natural reaction is to start dissing on them for betraying their community. It takes skill to manifest that potential into actual success, and Franklin does that well.
Big Tmfya
It's because someone is living his life the way he wants to. When you do that you know you will get criticized, however, EVEN if you are successful people WILL STILL criticize you. Franklin though dealt with it pretty good, without even caring about their opinions and on top the hand helping Lamar's life multiple times..
