Algonquin Assassin
After looking through the store I can understand why they’re pulling it. It’s a complete mess and it’s obvious they haven’t been maintaining it for quite some time. Games like NBA 2K18 are still listed at full price from new which is quite absurd and maybe I’m just used to how smoothly integrated the store is on PS5, but this one is so clunky and slow. Um. It’s time to be put out to pasture I think.

The only thing it doesn't do is GT6. Saves seamlessly carry over from generation to generation. Microsoft's commitment for backwards compatibility is paying off dividends to games looking to go back and play the likes of RDR1 Anyway, I didn't come in here to post about Xbox, so please forgive me, lol. I saw this from Digital Foundry. Streamed 8hrs ago. 𝙼𝚄𝚂𝙸𝙲 𝙽𝙾𝙽 𝚂𝚃𝙾𝙿

If you go to account management -> transactions -> download list, you can download your games from there as well. I've been doing this for years. After the Store goes offline, this will be the only way to download your games.
Bloodytears1666
I have one and going to keep it, but only because I have some physical copies of games for the console and some digital PlayStation 2 classics. Yeah, the console looks good, but honestly, with Xbox's bc I see no point in buying anything else, especially if you will be not able to use PlayStation store anymore. As for Sony exclusives, they all mostly present on 4 and PC, enchanted and expanded. Edited April 4, 2021 by Bloodytears1666

What do you mean by "worth it"? There is still a ton of games, whole franchises I never played and they get praise from players and critics. The graphics still good, this shouldn't be a reason to lower the entertainment anyway, I lately played a bit of vice city, and it is more fun to me than GTA 5. I still got my ps3, which plays blurays and DVDs, has music and movies on it, photos,.. It runs smooth and is still silent. Couldn't say the same for my Ps4 which had to be switched since it got loud, like a plane taking off. It also had nothing of the features I mention above except for blu-ray playability. I had to download sh*t to play other stuff and it won't play copied discs like the ps3 does. I gotta say I play Ps4 all the time but I had a lot of hard times with it, not with the ps3. So anyway, you decide for yourself if it's still "worth it" shadyslady and JB94

Platypus92
So Sony decided not to close the PS Store on PS3 and PS Vita after all. https://blog.playstation.com/2021/04/19/playstation-store-on-ps3-and-ps-vita-will-continue-operations/ JB94 and Algonquin Assassin
Zello
This is great news. I just hope that they can bring all those games over to PS5 somehow. Jim Ryan is an idiot when it comes to old games.
Guest
I would say it's still worth it. The library is insane and games can be picked up dirt cheap these days. Some of the exclusives like Last of Us, Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4 still look great for their age as well.

Darth Absentis
I would say yes if you want a blu ray player and do not need 4k resolution when using said blu ray player and you like playing older games Considering 4k is more and more supported though, this is slowly becoming a big downside. Adrenalist
Considering you can play PS1 games, PS2 games (if it's the right version), and PS3 games, with a wireless controller and on a modern HDMI out, I think it's unbeatable if you love anything from those eras. KiTTYReCkless
No. Get a 4 or a 5 (if you can find one). Then get a subscription to PS Now. A lot of the PS3's best games are available on it. RDR, Metal gear, Silent Hill, final fantasy, just to name a few.
Adrenalist
This thread made me spend more money than I'll publicly admit. What I've learned and what you should know: Short PS3 buyer's guide. -All PS3s play PS1 discs through emulation- CECHA, CECHB, CECHC (PAL) - Contains a PS2 chipset that is fully backwards compat. These suffered from poor capacitors, a poorly designed CPU, and poor cooling. CECHE - PS2 emulation. Some games have issues and don't play well (i.e. Manhunt) If you're looking for the best experience for PS2 backwards compatibility, these are not the best choice. These also suffered poor caps, CPU, and cooling. -No other PS3 has PS2 backwards compatability- Sony continued to manufacture these large (aka "fat" or "phat") consoles, releasing the CECHG, CECHH, CECHJ, CECHK, CECHL, CECHM, CECHP, CECHQ. All suffered from poorly designed NEC caps, CPUs, and cooling. Like the aforementioned, they are all ticking timebombs. But they all had the most features, especially the first ones, and were much more mod friendly. Sony then released the middle "slim" model. The first iteration had a better design, ran cooler, still had the bad NEC caps (CECH-20xx) but a much improved CPU and was mod friendly. CECH-21xx is the sweet spot of improved caps, improved CPU and mod friendly software, while the CECH-25xx offers both CPU, improved caps, but somewhere in the manufacturing phase they switched to a different software update that was not mod friendly. So if you're looking to mod an out of the box brand new CECH-25xx, it'll be a gamble. If you aren't, just like the CECH-21xx, you have the most bulletproof PS3 ever made. The CECH-30xx had a failing GPU usually for video out and Sony kept this flawed design on into the Super Slim iteration of the Playstation 3. The Super Slim was also plagued with wifi issues as well. So to summarize: CECHA, B, or C is best for PS2 compatibility, but needs some modification consideration due to heat, poor CPU design, and poor NEC caps. CECH-21xx and CECH-25xx are the most reliable PS3s built, and if one were purchasing new in box and intending to mod it, CECH-25xx would be a gamble. I used to play GTA 4 CE and RDR1 on my old PS3 that I sold. Not as comfortable as playing current/last-gen games, but it gave me good nostalgia. VintageRebelXX
I have a PS3 Slim now idea what model brought it when I was 11 so 7 years ago as I'm 18 now with a PS4 also. But my PS3 runs quiter and I get nostalgia of Gta 4 Sega Mega collection, Assains Creed and other Retro Games. It isn't used much have an Old TV with 1 HDMI lead my old Phone Died so remote play won't work for it on My new one. So when I get a New TV I will start My PS3 up If I do not need PSN I'm gonna hop on Gta4 Online after setting up my Internet. I might also use it when I eventually move out as a DVD Player with my PS4 there and a PS5. I have never tried playing PS1 games On It Actually No I think I have but I don't think I could save them I know I could put PS2 and PS1 Memory on it through Settings but it Is still a decent console. The PS4 I'd Great but sounds like a Rolls Royce 3 Stage Engine Spool Up on the Boeing 747 or Concorde on Take Off Roll. But it is confined by Internet and Storage I think it was 500GB my PS3 was either 350GB or 500GB and I have more games physically for my PS3 and never ran out of Memory. The PS3 is good for a Cheap Decent Console. Depending on when my PS3 was made it was either 6 years old or younger when I got it in 2015
