I remember hosting daily contact missions back in 2013 on the old xbox, invite was even in my forum signature. These were the times. I/E was a different story, but it was sure a profitable thing for some time.

RIP public free roam. And I'm worried it's eventually gonna be RIP on multiplayer almost entirely, for me. I've been playing on PS4 (after years on XB1, then a break) with friends. We did a number of things together, but mainly heists, and primarily the casino heist in all its permutations, over and over.

Since the new one dropped, we are individually spending more time in invite-only lobbies, by ourselves, not playing with anyone--not even each other. I text the guys about getting together, and a couple times we have, but after talking a good game about it, it seems like we are all doing this heist solo more than saving it for our meet-ups. As a result, we're all flush with cash and don't really need each other except when the isolation gets to be too boring.

In a way, this seems like Rockstar's latest Band-Aid on a wound they created themselves and then were unwilling to really heal. "Lone wolves" complained and complained about all the content pushing them into public free roam, and mainly because free roam is a PvP apocalypse and being there can be terribly annoying. So it seems like instead of fixing the central mess, or even updating old content to be more solo-friendly (the way the Diamond heist is at least able to be prepped in solo sessions), they just added a new thing that is 1) easy and lucrative, 2) pays more solo, and 3) barely f*cking works in lobbies with other players in them due to all the random glitches. In their ham-fisted attempt to address a years-old, ever-escalating problem, they basically shrugged and said "f*ck it, you can all just grind alone now." Couldn't even be bothered to lightly incentivize playing with other people. It's simply the worse option in every respect.

InB4 public free roam becomes essentially what bad sport lobbies are--just places for maniacs to barbecue each other with their broomsticks, and nobody else ever sets foot.

If you want to meet up, I'll be in an invite-only lobby driving one of my zillions of regular cars around looking for signs of life.

Yep, I made a post over in the CP forum that asked 'where do we go from here?" I play the game almost completely solo now and in invite only sessions. I want the full gtao experience but i dont want public lobbies to be just another mode in COD or Battlefield.

How do we get there?

I want friendly public lobbies, I guess.

Should have been an option from day 1 back in 2013. Failing that, should have been patched in, long ago. I don't know why they've been so dead set on avoiding it; lots of what this game has to offer is essentially of no use in standard PvP-heavy sessions. Try going into a lobby with more than 10 players and flying a blimp through the city--set a timer on how long it takes someone to murder you and report back. GTAO is absolutely loaded with stuff that almost no one uses anymore, and it's a pity. Hell, you can barely use the new sub in public free roam, because they are dead easy to destroy and there's always someone going around doing it.

RIP any hype for further updates. I'm convinced Rockstar isn't going to give us a lot of cars anymore because it seems they don't care. The "biggest" update giving us like 5 normal cars is a joke.

Yep, take your benny's custom low-rider out for a spin and see how long it will last.

I mean sure we have invite only but I don't know 30 people who play this game to invite in.

There is still some incentive to play Cayo Perico with other players: Gold loot. It's all in the compound, and you need 2 players to access it. If you fill your bags with loot from the compound, you don't have to loot the docks, as you would solo.

I know, in this case the incentive to play with others is artificial and you could just solo it, but if you invite a friend and give them 15-20%, you still make more than solo, maybe faster too, since you can skip the docks and leave the compound swimming. And if said friend isn't online, don't wait for them, go ahead solo, and loot the docks.

But this isn't really incentive at all unless you just like the idea of better loot. Each player gets paid less than they would alone, which just drives people to play it solo.

Granted, running two shared heists back to back (each player hosting one) means both get more money than if they just do their own heist solo. But players don't think this way. They get to the end of their preps and it's like, "Well... I could invite Bill along and get maybe 850K here, or I can do it myself, right now, without waiting for him, and get 1.2 million or more."

Coordinated grinders might be rotating and sharing, but I guarantee a lot of people are just not going to bother, not with a heist that sets up this quickly and pays this well.

If you join another person's heist, your only time investment is the time to play the heist, and when getting gold from the compound you can easily get elite, which pays around $400k for a person helping at 15% cut in roughly 10 minutes. The host gets about $1.7 million. (For the bearer bonds.)

Did you read the rest of my post? I know this. But I doubt players other than serious grinders are going to see it this way.

Well, did you read all of @AirWolf359's post? Because doing it with friends was the assumption.

I only gave some example numbers.

I don't see why anyone other than grinders would play this heist 10+ times. I've had fun but also find it very repetitive.

Everyone in this game needs money, and in recent history glitching for it has been punished harshly.

Sentinel Driver

RIP GTA ONLINE, every island is a private session so can't meet new friends there

The heist is soloable

Playable in invite only lobbies

The Music Locker is a "social" place? I don't think I've ever seen anyone there. There's no activities or fun little minigames to do there for I don't know, have actually players spend time there?

I guess it's better than being forced to play and have some jackass constantly on a flying bike destroying your sub and disrupting your work but, yeah. For an online game we spend a lot of time just by ourselves.

Yes, this was kinda my point. I have some friends who figured this out, and they'll take 15%.

With 2 players, you can get gold, which is ~500k a bag, compared to coke solo, ~440k a bag.

(this assumes you found gold during the scope out, if there's no gold in any of the storages, don't bother)

If your primary target is 1.3 million, you grab the wall safe for let's say 60k, and you grab 2 bags of gold (500k each), you have 2.36 million, the other player's bag represents about 20-22% of your total take, so if you pay them 15, you make more, and if you pay 20, you're even, but you probably leave the compound with full bags so you can skip the docks.

With 3-4 players (assuming everyone can fill up with gold) you have to pay them all 15%, as that's about what their bag represents.

Yes, I made 2 assumptions:

1. There is enough gold for everyone

2. You can get someone to join you for 15%. A lot of grinders will happily take 15% for a free ride on someone's heist finale.

You get elite challenge both solo and with your friends, so that doesn't make a difference to your own pay (except Rockstar pays out more per heist)

Very annoying. I think it's because the introduction of the new Extra Large size with the Alkonost messes up something in the background.

Charlie would never play tricks like that on you.

If they wont give us friendly lobbies, how about a 'no heavy artillery' lobby. So no army or airforce stuff, homing missiles or EPGs. Handguns only.

Oh and stones, throwing stones.

I just said it depends on the glitch, haven't seen any reports of anyone getting punished for duping cars or replaying heist finales, even though a lot of people thought the heist challenge was a trap to catch the people playing heist finales back to back.

But not many people thought there wouldn't be money wipes on console and even fewer thought they would reset people on console, so you never know what they can do in the future but not every glitch is as easy to track as those glitches they have punished people with either.

Personally I have enough money to not be in any rush to get more by glitching and the last three cayo heists I've gotten the pink diamond so my take solo have been around $1.75 mill giving me $1.65 mill and change after fees so not bad

Great summary of the situation.

The best money making in the game right now I’m pretty certain would be to have 4 friends set up their own finale and then all invite to each other’s so you can maximise the secondary take each time.

I can’t see myself ever inviting randoms to my finale in practice though. Yes economically you can make it work, and occasionally you’ll get lucky and someone good will join. But for every one of those sadly I expect Id get about 9 muppets who are nothing but a hinderance.

Requires a friend, so it's more profitable but there's way more hassle.

Plus with the recent character wipes and ban waves over money glitches, I'd stay away from it.

I'm surprised that you're still playing the thing. For me RIP period was in 2019 with some occasional launches in early 2020 followed by a "What the hell am I doing here?". GTAO is not getting better with time.

I actually stopped playing for almost all of 2019. Work and family just got too busy. I came back a few months ago, mainly out of boredom (I don't play any other games except a few iPhone games).

My nostalgic return has actually been a ton of fun, but the primary issues and flaws that have always been glaring seem to be more glaring, now. I've blown through tens of millions of GTA$ in a very short time. For no other reason than to have something to do (bought into the new Cayo Perico heist... holy $$$).

Anyhow, if they really wanted to invigorate this shrinking, dying T-Rex, they'd open up the opportunity for players to sell Pegasus, properties, weapons, and clothing. It's the only thing that would give us incentive to log on for hours and be really happy with the results. Everyone would flood their customer service desk with returns! lol! But, of course... will. never. happen. everrr.

Alright, alright. Take my angry like.

You may be right, but for most occasion it's just easier and faster to spawn the Buzzard than to go into 200 other menus in order to spawn the Sparrow. Also, it's nice that now whenever I destroy my Buzzard one way or another, I have the Sparrow as spare and don't have to wait the cooldown or wait for the Mk II to arrive.

Edit: One thing I forgot to mention: is it just me or does the Sparrow have bigger rotors than the Buzzard? That's definitely a con as far as versality goes. For me the Buzzard is still king, the Sparrow can be the prince.

The Sparrow is bigger then the Buzzard, but I used the Sea Sparrow a lot and it's not that big of a deal.    There aren't many places a Buzzard could land that the Sparrow/Sea Sparrow can't.

The Sparrow is faster then a Buzzard or a Oppressor MKII.    And the Sparrow has much better rockets.   They aren't better in tracking, they are same as Buzzard rockets in terms of tracking and power.    But the reason they are better is because they are non-stop fire like the Savage rockets.   The Buzzard is like the Laser where you can only fire 2 rockets then you have a couple seconds cool down.

The only reason the Buzzard was ever better is because you could spawn it right beside you.    But now you can spawn the Sparrow right beside you as well.    That makes the Buzzard now obsolete as it only had 1 advantage over the Sea Sparrow, and now with the Sparrow that one and only advantage is gone.

Admittedly, I did consider that maybe that heist challenge could have been a bit of a trap as, if anything, that'd be the ideal time to do something if they intended to. But having seen R* left be, it's gotta be all but certain there'll be no issue for those keen to rinse a bogdan on repeat, lol. Fair play.

Not for me of course, but not a criticism of those that do as I can understand why of course, I just won't grind cash. It comes natural or just doesn't come at all and the game gets deleted and forgotten about even quicker, that Blista was more than enough of a sampling of 'The Grind' lol. Ewww.

Besides, this new heist pays too good and being a heist, it's right up my street. Happy days on easy street here! :)

Made a lot more money from the heist that I thought I ever would before the update drops, will eventually get bored of it but now I've been and probably will run one a night for a little while, good money indeed 👍

If they were to set up a trap I would actually think a double money week would be more of chance them doing it but one can never know these days 😊

True, true. Hadn't thought of that when posting above.

Made a lot more money from the heist that I thought I ever would before the update drops, will eventually get bored of it but now I've been and probably will run one a night for a little while, food money indeed 👍

Yeah, I'm quite surprised by how profitable it is given it can be done solo too. Made my spending back in a couple days which I hadn't anticipated at all. Not that I'm complaining mind, I'll build my stash so I can at least look at the next gen free version and go from there. Can't hurt to have healthy reserves in case invite only gets cut or they force more public only pap on us in future. :)

Pedinhuh already covered my list, with one addition:

RIP the Kraken, the original submersible submarine.
I really enjoyed this sub because it was a nice way to step outside the obnoxious mayhem and just explore while cruising at a fun pace. Now, it's like sitting inside a dead carp waiting to explode at the hands of someone's Toreador.

RIP the game, altogether.
Some may say that GTAO "jumped the shark" a long time ago, with the addition of flying rocket launchers and such, but for me and my style and interest of gameplay, this is it. I've spent more time in Passive Mode recently than ever before in the 7 years prior.

Between Jets, Oppressors, Deluxos, Toreadors, Oribital Cannons, Godmode Speedo, and everything else, the game has lost any sense of immersive content for players to indulge in for any prolonged amount of time. Nowadays, you play and you get blown up.

It's too bad, because obviously, I love this game. It's just no fun to be forced into Passive because you just can't get anything done.

A few years back, someone on the Forum here told me to go to my PS4 Custom Network Settings, and set my MTU to 700 or lower, which prevents others from joining my Public session. I have been using that successfully for peace, and peace of mind, ever since.  Makes all the difference in the world.  I've become filthy rich, delivering my goods day after day, with nary a pathetic wanker in the session to spoil my profits.

I recently set my MTU to 700 rather than the 650 I have had for a long time, and with this new DLC, twice, after failing a Prep mission and getting booted back to the session, I didn't notice that (on rare occasion) another player can still get in my session. Just one player.  So on both occasions, first one, an Oppressor-wanker came after me, and second time, I was AFK and came back to find circular skid marks in the dirt around my standing character, indicating that some other wanker had run me down multiple times, just like the old days.

So yeah, Public sessions are a worthless joke for the ages.

To the OP topic, when I got my Sea Sparrow, it was RIP Buzzard.  Same general specs, no missile cooldown, and I can take it out to the Kosatka when I want to, and fly back, while leaving the Kosatka Sparrow in reserve -- very very handy. 👍 Used the Sea Sparrow for many many missions.
