zPhoenix
We have hot/normal/cold weather outfits, and some vague idea that some areas (StDenis, Lagras, the desert west) must be hot and that if you see snow it must be cold, with the rest probably normal... but how can you actually tell what kind of weather a location has? Is there an indicator on screen that I missed?

There's no way to tell that you are starting to suffer from the weather until your health core starts flashing red with either a sun or a snowflake. Gold cores from meats, tonics, special camp stews plus Harriet's Hardy Tonics will keep you from feeling the effects until they wear off. A decent cold weather outfit is cheaper, of course. Also, you don't need an outfit for "average" temps except for cosmetic reasons. Hot outfits are good down to 32 degrees and cold are good up to 70 or 75. I normally just wear hot outfits till I get to freezing temps unlike NPCs who walk around in short sleeves in freezing weather. It's ALT on PC, shows the location, time, and temp, plus your money, gold and role tokens. The one big thing missing from that display is your XP and how far you are along to the next level, which only comes up with the weapon/item wheel menu. Unless it is a daily to use one of Harriet's Hardy tonics when too "hot or cold." Then I'm way up north of Colter, with it saying 3 degrees, but I stay "fair" in the hottest outfit (meaning for hot weather) there is or just the nightgown or something. zPhoenix
I finally found it. It is not Alt, it is a double-tap of Alt not the most intuitive but it gives you bottime of day (important for collectors) and temperature (important to choose the clothes). Dark Spark
An 'average' temp outfit is not all that useful. There are three temperature conditions: Cold; Average; and Hot... A hot weather outfit will be comfortable at Average and Hot. A cold weather outfit is comfortable at Average and Cold. An average weather outfit? Only comfortable at Average. It is not enough protection for Cold; and is too warm for Hot. IamCourtney, kcole4001 and StyxTx

And you can see when it's raining and how windy it is. StyxTx

I looked in the settings/keybind multiple times, never found either of those. I also googled many times and it was mainly by accident that I finally found how to turn that on with double-Alt. Now I use it all the time.

It's quite easy to manage your outfits though without really having to think about it too much. I have a cold outfit for when I go into the snow (and for other places at Christmas), a rain outfit (that's not really needed and is just for roleplay) and other outfits for just about anything else. You might want to wear something light in the desert and Lagras but that's about it. Edited December 21, 2020 by AmyStone kcole4001

Now that I use Alt-Alt to check the temps I no longer have that issue.
4eyedcoupe
I keep mainly 3 outfits on my horse. 1 normal that is pretty much whatever I feel like wearing. I can travel the majority of the map except Colter and be fine. I keep a "cool" outfit(normal w/slightly warm coat) for nights and early mornings for around northern areas like Big Valley and Grizzlies. Basically, if I can see my breath, I put on the "cool" outfit. Then there is my "cold" outfit that only gets used in the snowy parts of the map. Hopefully it will get a lot of use over the next two weeks.

Do you usually have a bounty? If you run around with a bounty, the amount will appear in red and it will show first, then cycle to the normal information. For me it's just one tap of the left ALT key that brings it up, if the second tap cycles through the bounty display I never knew that, I've always waited for it to change, that's the reason I always pay it off at my lockbox ASAP, so I don't have to wait for it when I check that display. Good to know we can cycle through it!

Apart from the obvious hot and cold places it's not worth worry about. The drain is so small that you won't notice. It's honestly not worth putting any more thought and effort into something that makes so little difference. DentureDynamite

The only reason I started this thread is because the drain was noticeable and it was becoming a nuisance to have to keep eating my "carry" seasoned meat rations. I think it is not a big deal *if* your normal outfit is for summer, like the initial one. But... I really like the look of my "normal weather" outfit so I use it most of the time unless the weather requires something warmer or colder. And until yesterday I still had the bedroll at camp (I just upgraded to the top tent) and that meant that I would not recover health/stamina as fast, making any drains more noticeable. In the past sometimes there was a bug where the drain was extremely annoyingly fast and it didn't matter where you went once it had started. I had to switch sessions to get rid of it because I was going through provisions like nobody's business and my character was getting the weight gain warning as well as almost dying from the health depletion. Many of the old bugs have returned recently, maybe that's the issue? DentureDynamite

Sometimes the game glitches and tells you that you are overheating even when you're in the snow wearing minimal clothing. You can get a lot of health drain then and the only way to fix it is to restart the game. kcole4001

I've never changed outfits no matter where I go (both my PC and PS4 chars have similar outfits like the image below); for me it would be way too annoying, as I frequently use Fast Travel to zip around the map doing dailies. My health tanks faster up in Colter of course, but I've never noticed a "too hot" scenario while in Tumbleweed, etc. kcole4001
IamCourtney
I always carry one cold outfit, one average and five hot ones visually suitable for different climates and locations. It's 95% about RP and a love of custom outfit creation tbh. I wish they'd let us modify our outfits on the go without it saving the changes permanently, it'd be nice to able to roll up your sleeves or take your jacket/vest off without needing whole separate outfits. A lot of people like the clothes. If you look at my wardrobe IRL it consists of 2 pairs of jeans and 15 tee shirts. Too lazy to customize them. 5 hours ago, zPhoenix said: I looked in the settings/keybind multiple times, never found either of those. I buy a new pair of jeans and a bag or two of plain tshirts at Costco every few years, most days I just change from my grubby work clothes right into some old well worn-in pajamas after showering. But yet I still find fashion fascinating as a non-particpant observer. Get me in a game with outfit customization and I can spend hours tinkering with looks. My 1st GTA character is male, he's got like maybe 3 outfits, and I almost never changed them. 2nd character is female and it's all about the clothes and cars. In RDO it's clothes and guns, a few nice horses as well, but I'm not overboard about them. Not even sure why! IamCourtney
