Honestly they’d have been better off just renaming Alderney “Staten Island” or whatever the gta equivalent would’ve been and it would’ve made more sense but that’s a topic for another day

Staunton Island, maybe? That was the name of one of the boroughs in GTA 3's Liberty City and the name sounded very similar.

When one of the girlfriends in San Andreas asked Carl to come in for some "coffee" after a date, I took it literally and thought she would just make some coffee for Carl to drink in her home. I'm pretty sure there are others who thought the same thing as me.

In my books a Staten Island equivalent is called Richmond Island because Staten Island is in Richmond County. Staunton sounds too similar imo

I remember in Vice City, when you get busted, I thought you were going to jail and you have to find a way to escape it. I first played Vice City on an iPad back in 2012 and when I got arrested, I just spawn outside the police station. "Huh, strange.", I thought.

I thought to myself, maybe it happens on the PC version, since I thought the PC version has a lot more features than the mobile version. I started playing the PC version in 2020, and guess what? The same thing happens from the mobile version. Arrested, but still spawn outside the police station.

I vaguely remember there was a Vice City video I watched on YouTube that has the player character in jail that probably lead me to think of something like this. It's been a very long time, so I don't remember what the video is, if you're asking.

I dont know where to put it.

In GTA V when cop is injured they are taking him into safety. I dont know, I never saw it in any other similar games so I feel kinda bad for going on killing spree it was amplified by graphics that was really good in 2013 and 2014, thats small details something checked in my brain.

And killing animals for fun in GTA V is super bizzare concept for me and given its only game.

On the other hand, there is RDR2 and I dont have problem with killing because I use these animals as donors of meat and skin.

When I was a kid before San Andreas came out, but knowing that they were making a game called SAN ANDREAS, I would look at maps of the United States in school and see SAN ANTONIO listed as a city on the map and I thought San Andreas must have been a stand in for San Antonio

Times before Google Maps, seems dark.

It's funny that the name originally just had San Francisco, but they later changed it to California and gave SF a different name. I wonder how that happened.

  • I used to think as an eight year old that Tommy Vercetti and Claude Speed were the same person initially, and I also thought when I was seven years old that Claude was actually Mr. Bean but in his own video game as he was also mute in the television show, remember? 😂
  • I used to also think that Mrs. Dawson from Vice City was my friend’s mum in February 2007 as she had the same name too, how odd! 😊
  • My innocent mind thought that Claude was thanking people when he flipped them off, how young and innocent was I then now? 😂
  • And lastly, my young mind also thought that 8 Ball and Lance were long lost brothers too! 😜
  • I also had an interesting crush on Misty and never knew she was a prostitute at all, in fact I also had no idea what prostitutes were! 💕

When I was young I never understood the slanguage that the characters were using back then. So I was confused when they say slangs like "bread" "water" "ice" "blast" etc and thought they actually meant that in a normal context.

Are you stating that Vercetti was your father’s in game counterpart by any chance? 😜

cant remember

- I used to think I understood all the dirty humor, when in fact i didnt

- the ANICESETOFWHEELS cheat i thought the words were a reference to Anice Setof, must be one of the devs i thought

- When Maria says Asuka got a massager and she says it's not a massager, I thought she was talking about a lounge seat I had no idea what else she could mean

- I used to think the cop heads from 2D era were literally the faces of the cops chasing you, so 4 heads meant 4 cops chased you, and when the heads bobbed up and down in GTA2 it means they were agitated because they were close

When I was a kid I seriously thought that Ryder was thirsty during that cutscene and was looking for his water bottle or something. I used to think "Why would he bury a bottle of water in his backyard?"

I also thought that in "Robbing Uncle Sam" Uncle Sam was an actual person that Ryder and CJ were about to rob and not, you know, a metaphor for the United States. I can probably give a dozen more examples lol

I actually stopped play Grand Theft Auto sixteen years ago when I was eight years old as I thought that I was too young for all the dirty humour, my how time has flown! 😊

Blue carpet

I wasn't really that young when I started playing the 3D GTA's I was in my early 20's. I don't know if this counts as weird but I was hoping that something would happen on Easter day of 2003 with that chocolate Easter Egg in Vice City.

Not me and not GTA but one of my coworkers thought that they made a Manhunt movie when he was thinking of the Max Payne movie :kekw:

I used to think that the "Cesar Vialpando" mission in San Andreas could be beaten by using the arrow keys, not the numpad keys. In reality, it turned out to be the opposite. I somehow managed to figure that out myself and without even making a search on the internet, after 9 months of struggling with such a mission.

- I thought this video was a real game and I searched the internet for a download link for years.

- I tried to buy the Stories games for PC many times, pirate stores sold me modded III/VC/SA or broken CDs every time.

- I thought the Stories games were really popular mods (might be because of the above).

I used to think the radio commercials were really “catchy” when I was a kid. I’d go around singing “Gloryyy Hoooole” and got in trouble every time.

I wasn’t old enough to understand a lot of the adult humor, but their dialogue exchange in the car definitely let me know she was a little friendlier than most. 😆

I just remembered, I used to think that the desert building in Bone County was a reference to the scene of Looney Tunes Back in Action when they found a Walmart in the middle of the desert.

When I saw some videos of LCS years ago I thought the player was Claude and I was genuinely confused what the hell this game even is, no one in my neighborhood or school knew it because most folks only played on PCs. I found it insanely hard to believe this skinny guy is meant to be Toni but nowadays, all LCS storyline weaknesses aside, it's fine as 3 years is a lot of time and you can put up a lot of weight during that time.

I thought Emmet was Big Smoke's brother and that he would give you missions. I also thought that the guy playing TV during Madd Dogg's Rhymes was Madd Dogg himself and I felt weird about killing him lol. That mission was funny, I played on German and didn't tell the difference between Silenced Pistol and Shotgun and so I was f*ckin blasting around the crib with a Shotgun :kekw:

I thought you were going to have to kill Badman for Jacob just how you had to kill Faustin for Dimitri. But even earlier than that I actually thought you'd befriend Faustin just like you befriended Jacob 💀

I thought there was a second car alike to the Emperor with a name starting with S in IV, I chalk it up to mandela effect.

Because Roman always respawned if you killed him during a friend hangout, I was totally sure he would come back after choosing the Deal ending. I was like "I MEAN THIS IS ROMAN, HE GIVES YOU CABS, HE HAS TO COME BACK, RIGHT?" 😂 Similarly, I thought Asuka did not die and was just knocked out, hoping she would eventually come back and help you with Catalina or something.

And the worst one yet, I actually thought DRIV3R was a prequel to GTA3... because in GTA3 you kill Tanner and I thought Calita and Catalina are the same person. Plus Timmy Vermicelli's existence and I wasn't 100% sure how VC's protagonist is called. Silly me 💀

When I was a kid, I used to think that because Vice City was set in the 80s and San Andreas was set in the 90s that GTA III was set in the 70s lol.

By that logic though, GTA 4 would be set in the 00s, which it was, 5 was set in the 2010s, which it was and GTA VI would be set in the 2020s, which it is!

But when I used to think this, Vice City Stories was the latest game in the series, long before IV was a thing.

I legitimately thought Catalina's voice actor in GTA 3 was voiced by the singer of MGS3's Snake Eater, due to the near-identical name. Took me a few years to realize the voice actor is one letter off. (Cynthia Farrell, not Cynthia Harell)

In almost all his friend conversations Jacob is talking about Badman being increasingly paranoid and how he has to be blindly loyal to him almost like he's beginning to doubt Badman. I also felt like it was leading somewhere.

- I used to think Niko was 50

- When Ken Rosenburg mentioned to Tommy about “12 keys of coke” I misheard it as 12 cans of coke, and I always thought to myself. Why is Tommy trying to find 12 cans of coke? Can’t he just buy them?

Once when I played SA in my PS2 I thought that if I took a plane and flew into the ocean for a long time I'd reach Vice City. The only thing I reached was my game crashing.

I thought GTA 3 was the third GTA after Vice City and San Andreas before realising there where 2 other GTAs on the PS1

Same here when I got them too back in those days for ps2.

Also thought GTA Vice City was set in 2003.

Back when I was playing III as a kid I had this weird fixation with the blocked off tunnel in Shoreside Vale and the enigmatic Ghost Town as it was referred to back then. I thought Ghost Town was a fully accessible part of the map that the game simply didn't allow us to visit for some reason. Years later I first learned of LCS' existence thanks to a video on YouTube, in it I briefly saw cars entering said tunnel and immediately thought that this game featured Ghost Town as an accessible part of the map. So when I played the game I was really excited to unlock Shoreside Vale and see what was behind this tunnel. Once I finally reached the tunnel entrance I found out that the only road that led to Ghost Town, or Upstate, was still blocked off by construction signs.

I think that was my first time getting blue balls in gaming. :sadkek:
