Weird things you used to think when you were young about the GTA series

Recommended Posts

As the name suggests this topic is related to the most f*cked up thoughts we had when we where younger about the series

I will start

_I used to think that Denise was Kendl and that CJ bangs his sister.

_This one was when I was very young but I used to think that all the protagonists are the same person and that if Tommy reached the N on the map he will become CJ and if CJ reached the N he will become Tommy

I used to think that the info blip that said "The Callahan Bridge/Porter Tunnel cannot be completed now, maybe check later" or something like that in GTA 3 was literal and didn't have anything to do with mission progression, so I thought if you waited like 100 ingame days or somethin it'd fix itself.

Yeah especially that the game tells you that you can make honest living by doing odd jobs in the beginning of the game which made me think that Luigi's missions (or the story's missions overall) are just another way to make money so when they started to become hard I abandoned them

Probably a common one, but when Vice City originally released I thought that Tommy was supposed to be Claude from GTA III. Took me many years to figure that one out.

I was 100% sure that Liberty City (in Grand Theft Auto III) is not a one city but three cities, separated by water... but... I didn't even know it was called Liberty City. So, yeah.

Also, back in 2007 I was suprised that Grand Theft Auto IV wasn't going to be called Grand Theft Auto VI.

Also, when I was even younger and played Grand Theft Auto 2 I really hoped we could enter interiors, I even imagined how it could work...

-I used to think Kent Paul’s first name really was “Kent”, but it took me years to realise it was just a reference to Kent in the UK.

-As a younger player I always used to think after going on a rampage “I wonder where all the dead bodies go?” since there are very few cemeteries in the games.

Interesting, because to me this is fresh news 😜.

Finding that out made his name 10x better lol

Until I played it last year I though The Lost and Damned was called The Lost and THE Damned

I tried flying really far like that a few times because I'd heard there was a glitch where it could trigger extra areas of the map to become gang territories. I think there's some truth to that? But I think I had the wrong console for it so it never worked.

There was a time that my PC would crash in one of the San Fierro missions in GTA SA so I couldn't progress further as a kid. So I used cheats to get to Las Venturas and I thought that president of the US was gonna be there and if I find him and kill him the mission wouldn't crash anymore. Yeah don't ask me how those thoughts existed in my head. Eventually I downloaded a save file that had that mission completed.

Lol Yeah I also had a lot ot these thoughts with no context as a kid

I actually remembered one right now lol

I used to think that Candy Suxxx was Tommy's wife and every nude photo in the game was hers so I tried to figure out why I can't find her while freeroaming and I did a lot of searching until I came to the conclusion that the hand in the nude of someone touching her ass in the mansion is Tommy's and Tommy tweaked her cheek so hard so she got hurt and cried and left the town and after a lot of searching I found another nude in Phil Cassidy's Trailer and that made me think that she used to come her to cry because I pinched her ass cheek

I have another one, I remember back around 2011 or 2012 when I first heard about TBOGT, I used to think Gay Tony was the protagonist.

I think I thought that as well when I first heard the name. Since it's the name in the title most people probably considered that. Unless maybe there was some info out beforehand that ruled it out for those who follow things more closely (for example I know "Gay Tony" is mentioned as being a nightclub owner in GTA IV so I dunno if it was already known that the protagonist worked for a nightclub owner, or if there was other info indicating the protagonist would be someone else, before the title was known).

My first GTA that I accidentally played was Vice City at a friends house when I was 8. I just drove on the water with an ambulance via the cheat. I'd never realized you could shot on this game or knew any part of the serious business cocaine story.

- Thinking Claude and Tommy were the same person.

- Thinking there was a fully modeled (and solid) Liberty City out there in SA that you could reach by drowning a plane far east of Las Venturas.

- More of a false memory, but I was absolutely convinced there were undercover cops in San Fierro that would chase you in black ZR-350's.

- Also thought I heard a very loud male scream from Shady Creeks once, which naturally fueled my belief in a bunch of myths.

There was a great beta phonecall about exactly that:

GrudgefromSanAndreas

i said this somewhere but i might aswell repeat it here: i thought big smoke was actually a weapon, but then i looked up on the wiki and realised it was actually called tear gas!

Don't worry. I even made that mistake lol.

I'm pretty sure some reviewers/journalists did back in the day too.

Wait it's not? Hands down best thing debunked. The funny thing is I used to believe his name was Ken Paul and that's why he got mad when Tommy called him Kent.

Because of the diablos I used to think the devil was running around in GTA 3 like an actual model that lived behind the car crusher and that used to scare me.

Also because of GTA 3 I thought there was a car crusher in every city so I was disappointed when I played SA and VC and there was no car crusher.
